Well-Spent Sunday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Don't know what day it is? Same here! This holiday has felt like an extended long long weekend. It's Sunday and we'll spend it well. We have another holiday week ahead of us - and another "long weekend" ahead, but normal is back on the horizon, luring us on!

Make sure it's a well-spent day in every way. Routines? check! Holiday doings? check! time with family? check! time alone? check! Whatever makes your day (and the beginning of a new week) feel well-spent!

Good morning, Twins'!

Yes, I was greeted this morning with, "It's Sunday, right?" from a sleepy husband, ready to be corrected, I think. It's hard to find a "toe-hold" for days in this week, but that's a good thing, in a way. We all need a reminder that there are many layers to our reality, and one is celebratory, holiday, down-time, different.

Also, a good thing to come here and say, "Right. We agree there's a calendar. " :D We know that's where we are, remember what we're about. Get with it.

I had a vague thought of Retrospective Sunday, but this is more on target for me.

(The Holiday Thread 2025, and trissie's House and Holidays thread 2025 with all the weekly reminders, though, are there for us. Remember that they can also help record and remind what went right this holiday season, what could be avoided next year to our benefit. How did we feel about giving emphasis or extra time in new or different areas? If there was the question, "What do I want to be SURE to remember?", we can answer it there and keep thoughts from getting away!)

Thank you for starting us off today Twins' Mom!! Yes, it's Sunday! The cats have had their catnip for the week.

There is yet another major storm warning for most of Ontario. There is also more snow on dh's windshield. We can spend another day without needing to go to a grocery store. We are having leftover Indian food for supper.

I have already done today's worst chore... 2 litter boxes. I have also mopped between the bed and the bathroom.

There are 3 cat plates that need to go into the dishwasher.

Dh has had his coffee. I have had my hot chocolate.

Later... dh is back in bed. Dishwasher is going. I just started a new book, so I might end up getting under some blankets.

Yes, I feel bleary-eyed at what feels like the weekend that goes on forever.

I need to make plans for dh birthday party tomorrow night. I have 3.5 lbs of sliced smoked brisket that was sent to us, and a smoked turkey. Not sure whether to thaw the turkey or not. The brisket is vacuum sealed. What goes well with a simple meal of brisket sliders? We're not coleslaw fans...perhaps a broccoli slaw? Suggestions for sides for diabetics? I made a dinner out reservation for Tuesday night, A and V will join us - that's who I wanted to invite for tomorrow night anyway when I thought he was going to bowling (not to bowl, but to be there) on Tuesday night.

Anyway, I have today to figure this out. I'm working out tomorrow at two, and the house is in decent enough shape. I'll run roomba in the a.m. too. I ordered groceries yesterday - what we needed for today, but I'll need to do so again for tomorrow night's prep. I must keep this simple.

And then there's supper tonight...

Thxs Twins!

When it comes to calendars I’m a simple girl. I have a planner I bought from WM and it is for 2025-2026. Only use the pages that have each month but they are two pages wide. So I use a single blank monthly Calendar I’ve printed from the computer, fill it out with what I need for the month and put it on my fridge.

A few more thoughts on retirement;
I remember the way to do the social security was to start 2 mo. before bc it took time.
I do not know what that is like now after the cutbacks that happened last year.
But it was a journey.

When planning it's good to remember things that come due in the year like in the summer house ins. is an annual one.
Or taxes spring / fall or could be paid all at one time.
Get $ out of retirement account like every quarter if you have that set up is a consideration that some I know do.

I have been up a while up on my regular time. 22* F outside was out low over nite according to my phone. 34* F is our hi temp. today.
I've had bfast.
Sorted out some planners to reuse parts of them going forward.
Qt happened.

Not quite sure what the day holds I will try to get out later as it warms up a bit and start the
rig that has not been used as much. I could go get some eggs.

Good morning!

We attended church this morning, so it did feel like Sunday to us. Also I usually make the same super easy family pleasing meal for Sunday noon (Honey bbq chicken bites and breaded mozzarella cheese sticks) so that is another indicator of being Sunday.

No 80F weather for us today but so far it isn't horrible because the sun continues to shine brightly. It is in the high 50's but the temps are steadily continuing to drop.

We have a special weather statement about gusty winds tonight. Temp is 69 now, drops to 40 or so overnight, and doesn't rise much beyond that tomorrow. Low of 25 degrees or so on Tuesday a.m.

I'm trying to think through prep for company tomorrow night and what cooking I want to do. I think I'm going to let guests assemble their own brisket sliders (or just eat brisket) instead of preparing in advance. I need groceries too. Instacart this a.m. was only to get immediate needs like eggs.

My circle walks are not as easy as they have been. The temp has dropped 10 degrees in the last hour and the wind gust are now over 25+mph. I'm still walking but it requires putting on heavy coat and head covering. I do enjoy the challenge of leaning into the wind; it feels like pushing against something invisible.

Taking a look at my week. DD14 has 3 appointments this week that will require 2 hours of driving. Otherwise, my week looks wide open and available. I do want to spend some time this week planning DS17 FINAL SEMESTER of homeschool lessons and putting the assignments on his calendar.

Birthday meal with friends - I would serve the birthday fella favorite foods. One meal shouldn't long term affect a diabetic if he is otherwise keeping his bsugar under control. What is his favorite side dish? What about his favorite dessert? Something that will be remembered. A chocolate fountain with fruit to dip in it? A 7 layer cake. An ice cream dessert bar? with the understanding that all food items left after the birthday will the given away or tossed.
