Re: Winter's Waning Wednesday
Good morning, villagers ~
Interesting conversation today. I grew up in a teeny tiny house that was built in the 1940s, I think. There were my parents, 4 girls, and 2 boys in that house. The "dining room" was so small that the table was pushed up against a wall until it was time to eat; then we pulled the table out a little bit, and 3 of us crawled under the table to get to our chairs. For many years the house only had 2 bedrooms and 1 tiny bathroom. I was about 6 when my folks were finally able to build on 2 more small bedrooms, but we still had only 1 bathroom because the original bathroom became the hallway to the new bedrooms and new bathroom. Wow, DMom is amazing to have coped with all that. I have very fond memories of that house. The yard was nice size with several trees, and DMom grew roses, 3 colors of lilacs, and lots of ferns and different colors of iris blooms.
DH and my first house was another teeny tiny home with a little yard.
Now DH and I live in a house that is much too large for us. The original part of this house was built about 100 years ago and has nice high ceilings. The people we bought it from had added a section and moved the kitchen and dining room there, so the original kitchen space is now my office. Part of the reason we bought this house was because of the large dining room, we thought we would be having our large families here for lots of meals. (Turned out they all think it is too far to drive so that didn't work out the way I'd hoped.) We're on a double lot so have a nice big back yard, lots of space between us and the nearest neighbors.
Harriet, do you have a copy of that Progressive Farmer magazine with your parents' house? Is the article available online anywhere?
This afternoon is the 2nd LEGO Club meeting. I'm trying to remember all of the misc. things I need to take this time.

Re: Winter's Waning Wednesday
OKay, a second career? I know you're younger than I am, but wow, are you feeling the energy! I saw go for it and good luck! I passed the exam in 1980 - it is very different now.
Snarky email last night re temple biz saying something was discussed with me when I don't believe it was. No, do not recall discussing getting proposals for work, wood fence versus other options, having our handyman guy do it versus hiring a professional biz, or cutting down the large trees he says must go so a fence can be installed. I can't figure out some days how they can run off like this w/o stopping for rational discussion and other opinions. I wrote a snarky response last night but am not sending, need to edit for sure. Do not recall the "substantial amount of time" temple secretary says she spent on this project. I do recall what I asked her to do a week ago that still appears to be undone.
Okay, this sat here for a couple of hours while I answered other emails. Still haven't done much a.m. routine or started on meeting for tonight.
Where's the BGS?

Re: Winter's Waning Wednesday
Had breakfast.
My cousin emailed and he'll be here around 2.
Guest bedroom and bathroom are ready. Also dusted the upstairs and cleaned our bathroom while I was at it.
Remembered to dust piano keys.
Tidied garage so he can get his car in. That also means the recycle bins are back where they belong so I was able to toss out some cans that were accumulating in the laundry room.
Tidied laundry room.
Have walked a mile in the house doing all this. Am on the treadmill while I take time to post so I can get more steps in. My goal is a minimum of 5K each day with a weight-loss goal of 10K and I'm only up to 2.5K so far so am hoping for another 2.5K on the treadmill before I eat lunch. Depends on how long I surf the internet. I know I'll be sitting a lot, visiting, once my cousin arrives unless we brave the walk to the general store for the mail.
Have a reply from one real estate agent about an apartment on the edge of the downtown core (probably no view since it is second floor) and am awaiting another and then we'll try and book two tours in the same day.

Re: Winter's Waning Wednesday
Twins' Mom, emails are the worst - if you and the emailer just chatted instead you would probably have come to an understanding right away with no hard feelings at all. When someone is saying they discussed something with you, ask the place where you were when you were discussing. For one thing, it might actually help you remember, and for another it might help them remember that you didn't discuss as much as they thought.
I am antsy, waiting for news from this session of visiting time at hospital for HRH's ddad.
Have swept and gotten the front bath spiffed.
Dd has a "possible" volleyball team meeting after school today. Really need her to find out whether that's the case.

Re: Winter's Waning Wednesday
Harriet, I do recall a very long phone discussion - well over an hour - that covered a ton of different issues. If we discussed the issue of this fence, I think it must have been in passing and I don't know how that translated into proposals, bids, taking down 4 big trees. I did take some notes that would be in my planner that was in my stolen purse, but I was just amazed that they had done all this work when we don't have a consensus about wood, vinyl, aluminum, etc.
Must get going.
-Agenda for meeting
-email trustees re: funds request
-walk the ever suffering ddogs
-clear kitchen counters
-fold dry lol, start a new lol in washer

Have done that last li&t except for walking ddogs and folding laundry. Sent an email to snarky lady and asked her to call at her convenience so we can talk privately. She copied a several people on that email saying she was pretty sure we had discussed it and I'm going to take the high road and not air dirty laundry.

Re: Winter's Waning Wednesday
Fell backwards over the corner of ds's bed when vacuuming the basement. Sigh. Sore calf (that's what caught) and slight headache, I assume from assorted minor aches.
House is looking quite good.
Got a fax with the floor plan of the big apartment. The rooms were bigger than I thought - the master is almost as big as ours and the second and third bedrooms are bigger than either of my other bedrooms. Radiators remain an issue for placement. The kitchen is also a big question mark due to the radiators. I'm feeling we should push into the eating area and abandon that in favour of more counter space. Dh, not so much. The eating area is only 8' wide and my eating area is 7.5' wide so I have a good sense of how the width is limiting. But my eating area has the doors to the office, basement stairs and balcony off it, whereas this just has the balcony patio doors and we could block those since there's a second door to the patio from the dining room next room over.
Storage room scares me but dh pointed out that the master bedroom alone has more closet space than all our bedrooms here, plus the rods I use in the basement for off-season clothes so I don't have to worry. He's most likely quite right!
