Thinking Thursday

Post by helia »

This is not what we'll be doing today, but somebody suggested this title yesterday. I briefly skimmed posts. . .

I missed the house discussion. I grew up in a 2100sf house, very modern build by some famous architect. Terazzo floors, floor to ceiling windows, flat roof. Our current house is 3400 sf, including basement - which I include b/c it is walk out and most of the basement doesn't feel like a basement at all b/c our house is built on a hill. Our rooms are large in size, but we don't have as many as one might think with that square footage. Living areas are fairly open, wooden floors. Ceiling is low, which is one thing we don't like about it. Lots of windows, though, which we do like.

Well, we are at Disney. Dh is experiencing some ambivalence, but dgirls are beside themselves with excitement. GG is now not happy that we are here only for 2 days. This is a stretch for dh; we originally were going to be here longer, but then dh wanted to do the manatee thing as well - and then the everglades which added another day down south. Yes, sorry to miss Dee by such a short margin. Our trip has been on a pretty tight schedule, so not much time for extras. The last 2 mornings, we've had an appt. for a tour of some sort first thing. Snorkeling with manatees yesterday was really cool! I've been falling asleep around 9 or 10 pm, so tired by the evenings.

Dh is currently off for a run. I'm wimping out, decided that running first thing this morning would tire me out when I'm going to be walking all day as well. I need to go s2s now so dh can s2s when he gets back. We bought some groceries last night so we can eat our own bfast and lunches in our rooms. We're thinking that might be healthier - and cheaper.

Dfriend B's 22 year old nephew was murdered in NJ last weekend. It's all over the news. Sad and upsetting. I'm praying for her and her family.

Oh, I'll be praying too, Helia. Death is always hard but think that a needless one is even harder sometimes.
and cheaper.
Absolutely, Helia! DS-A remarked yesterday (we'd stopped at S teak & S hake) on the way to the airport in Sanford) that one meal for 6 of us was equal to what about a meal & a half was at most restaurants they ate at on their meal plan. They never would have included the plan if it hadn't been given to them with their room/ticket purchase. They really made out quite well -they got round trip tickets for 5 of them for $700, and a 35% discount on room & tickets for 9 days with the meal plan thrown in. Normally would have been at least another 2 or 3,000 for all that.

DS & crew got off fine yesterday I believe. I made it to their Caribbean Beach resort hotel with absolutely no problems. We have discovered a new way to go and the traffic is nill. We get on route 529 just where the traffic starts getting heavy on I-4. Love it.

DD has gone to her technology group's competition in Orlando (left last evening). She has 20 middle schoolers -now she NEEDS prayer. :D Her co-teacher will be there part of the time -she's off to Daytona to "driving science". DD was supposed to go too, but the competition certainly took precedence. But she and co-teacher have been asked to attend the race at Homestead to teach a class then and will get free infield passes then.

DSonil is off to another job interview. Praying hard that this is the ONE! Is right up his alley & he's had years of experience so hoping. Drive would be 30-45 minutes. His Mom would be happy as it's in her town and he'd probably end up spending a night or two there each week. That would be good for them really.

Dh is having his CAT scan as I write, I do believe. So hoping that this will show an answer!

Harmony, my thoughts are with you. Please take care of yourself. If I could help you, I surely would.

Have to pay my car insurance this morning -due today. Nothing like the last minute. Plan to stay 'home' today and work at getting some things done. Especially in our bedroom and computer work.

I'm so happy to have some breathing room this morning. I need to be out of here probably in a couple of hours to p/u mother for a dr appointment. I was planning to p/u her meals first, but I'm thinking now that we'll go to the doc, then she can ride with me when I p/u her meals. I need to be back at JCC for an evening meeting, too. May go out to eat afterwards with a group but not sure.

Meeting last night went well. So glad to be winding down, altho I did agree to continue as Treasurer and oversee financial statements and reporting and work w bookkeeper. When I became treasurer 5 years ago in May, the bank account hadn't been reconciled properly in well over a year and the books were a mess. This should not take a lot of time and I continue on the exec committee anyway as past president so I would be attending meetings anyway.

Helia, do I understand that GC wants more than two days Disney time? I think two days, with all the other cool things you're doing is plenty!

Meant to say: Hope everyone has a tremendous good time at Disney, Helia. Sure you all will. I probably will not be ready to go back for at least a couple of weeks. A lot of walking indeed -but oh so good for me. 8-)

Just finished cleaning the kitchen and doing dishes, so I'm on 'track' this morning too, Okay. Have lots of things in my PODA so will see how much I am able to accomplish throughout the day.

Twins, glad things will soon be winding down for you -at least as much as they ever do.

Yes, yes, yes!!!! Dsonil starts his new job on Monday "full time", but 30 hours/week and $100/month for health insurance. He does have to investigate what insurance really covers before DD drops him in the Polk Co. School Board. He can set his own hours -just 30 hours a week. He loves it! Know DD has to be sighing a huge relief right now. He texted her in Orlando first. Thank you for all the praying you have done for months! Guess they're doing 2 months of 30 days and then Dsonil is not sure what happens at that point. Perhaps a raise or increase of hours. Who knows? Hopefully it's not just a 2-month job.

Dee - I'm so thrilled for your DSIL!!

I spent my deep cleaning focus time going through the chest of drawers in our bedroom. The drawers are now organized, inventoried, pictures taken and contents documented in OneNote.

Next up - making the rounds through the rooms doing daily/weeklies

Oh, Dee, that's great news to hear. What a relief for dd and dsil! I'm happy for you and them!

Morning routine is done. I'm taking a little break to get a cup of tea and catch up on the book I'm reading. Dh is cutting veggies for turkey noodle soup. (I'm supervising -- told him to add more then he had cut.) There is a turkey breast in oven roasting now. Yesterday we made ham and bean soup. We'll have enough from both pots for quite a few meals for us.

This afternoon I have a couple of lol to do; also have a few bills to pay. That should keep me out of trouble for a while!
