TROPICAL TUESDAY

Well, the temps may not be quite tropical where you are -they have been here -92 yesterday! But many of you are having 'tropical' rains. We're supposed to have that today as well.

The Highland Games sound so fun, Sunny. Maybe one of these years. And you're right -I'm quite anxious to be up north with dh.

Just wanted to get started here. Have a meeting at 9:30 with a luncheon to follow. Need to eat breakfast -BS was only 69 this morning and now I've had my meds as well.

Today has a Monday "feel" to me, Dee, because yesterday was so taken up by the long drive to the appt.

The morning here has been full of normalcy, so Tobias and I are content. The only surprise was that he jumped from the bookcase INTO the open box in which the new car mats had been shipped. Cats love cardboard boxes. That is a tall, thin box and it stayed up. Wonder how he thought he was going to get out without his human? My green-eyed boy loved the box, too, and that's why it was out in the LR.

btw, car mats that are fitted to the interior of your car (these happen to be from the Husky company) are a definite "recommend". Everyone pleased. You just have to be careful putting in and taking out because the studs across the backs are quite piercing, and that's fine for carpet, but wouldn't be good if they were caught on upholstery.

The school run was good, just ahead of the usual traffic jam from determined left-turn-ers (grrr...signs forbid it but they do it for convenience and back up the whole school drop off). I made a point to look at my watch and continue trying to time that daily traffic bind. I don't like getting a child to school too early, frankly, because there may not be as many responsible adults.

Morning Daily Card is accomplished well, although the towel load-of-the-day is still in the dryer. That will be a quick fold-chore.

Breakfast was cucumber and an egg scrambled in coconut oil - smart, smart.

The week here will be dominated by the upcoming arrival of dd34's family this weekend. (Yay) We are going to follow
Sunny and attend Highland Games, if things work out. I hope dd is feeling well and strong enough. She needs to rest more often, I would think. So impressed to hear that Sunny's family had such a successful Games! Wonderful to hear of piping and dance competitions.

I'd like to spend some serious time this week at the other house for dd34 and get some linen-laundry done there before she arrives. That would be a good thing. Hoping to keep on with the decluttering of the corner bedroom (which their family doesn't use right now) and preparing it for storage of some items from living-dining that are in the way.

The next 10 days have a further focus of excellent healthy habits, if I can. I'm hopeful about my new B-12 regimen, and I want to get back to more normalcy in healthy habits before my appt with general practitioner, to be able to give him an accurate "snapshot" of me.

Just a quick note to start.

* DH could not make up his mind about PCs over the weekend, but he wants me to check out another store with him today after he gets off work. Hoping we can find what he wants. We are only going to buy the 2 towers because he says our monitors and keyboards should keep working fine.

* I've decided that I'm happy about getting a new PC even if it means dealing with the deadline and having to learn Win8 or 8.1.

I've been getting more and more error messages when I'm online, and I think it's because this old desktop has so little RAM for what modern programs require. It only has 512M and DH is looking at towers with 8G.

I've been trying to remember when I bought this unit and I think it was 2004 or so? I was still working at the theatre and I donated my previous PC there so I would have it to use in the costume department. 10 years is a long life for a PC.

Therefore, in spite of being under pressure with Windows XP expiring TODAY, it will be a good upgrade.

* 2 DPCs this morning to solve a mystery for the library group.
* Eye exam at 1:30.
* Pick up Rx and Other errands while I'm in The Big City.
* Trying to arrange supper with friends.
* Downloaded tax forms yesterday, need to get those started. Last minute again.
* Must back up all files to external hard drive, and current working files to thumb drive.
* Starting another big project for the sewing group, this time cleaning out the 24 years of financial files.

* I still don't know any short stories.

Leapy Lee the Calico Cat is still enjoying hunting and killing her makeup sponge. She sings very loudly every time she carries it around the house. It shows up in some very odd places.

Only thing on the schedule today is to be at temple at 11 to help fold and put stickers on mailings. Up since 7, as usual need to get moving on rest of a.m. routine. Need to spend some time today on temple biz and desk day also.

I love the kitty stories. Last weekend dh commented that he loves the ddogs, but it would be nice to travel w/o having to make dog sitting arrangements. I commented straight-away on how much easier cats are when one travels.

Harriet's post reminds me to order custom mats for our car. We had them for the old Prius but they didn't fit the new car. The mats that come from Toyota are not suited to our salt and sand. And if I do it now, I'll be close to the border to pick them up.

Dh had a successful border run yesterday. The purpose was to renew some of his border documentation. But ds had a parcel there to be picked up that was up to $35 in storage fees. When dh was handed the parcel, he realized it was the parcel he had rejected 6 weeks ago. He had done a border run with a friend to pick up the new induction burners and it turned out although the parcel on the website had his first initial and last name, it was from a magic shop in LA. Not ours. It never occurred to him it could be for ds. The next day the induction burners were in and we did our border run a few days after that. They too were addressed to the same name so dh felt less stupid for going down a few days prior.

When he knew he had to do a border run yesterday, dh asked ds if he needed anything and sure enough ds had a parcel there, from a kickstarter project he invested in a year ago. This is the second project that shipped long after ds went to Australia and he's had to pay a lot in storage fees because of this.

Never invest in a kickstarter project unless you have up to 2 years to wait for the item (my 2012 birthday present was given to me in the late fall of 2013 after being ordered in December 2011.)

Dh is one of the luckiest men in the world and sure enough, the owner of the shop generously only charged $10 instead of $35 for the parcel storage. So this time the charges weren't too much for ds. We think that is the last of the kickstarter ds is waiting for.

I'm up, exercised, s2s, tidied bedroom, tidied kitchen, have had tea and chocolate. I'm cutting my chocolate into 8 tiny pieces instead of 2 large pieces and am having less now (I was up to 4 pieces a day.) So there's another 100 calories saved.

My new computer has rebooted several times. I ended up having to do a system restore back to the first time I turned it on. I don't have my preferred anti-virus software on it, though. Nor my preferred browser. That will come later today (or maybe tomorrow because I have other things to do today.

Morning y'all...

I've been up for quite a while. Had my coffee, doggies fed, bed made, swished that which needed swishing, 2 miles on my gazelle and now its off to shower. I've been making a conscience effort to pick up my footprints before I go to bed. Sure do like walking into my open sun-filled kitchen/greatroom each morning... brings a peaceful start to my day.

I have errands to run this morning. I'm following Dee with the daily temps now climbing into the 90's. However the difference is our humidity is only 9% this morning.

Counting me in with the kitten stories. Always had one or two in my life until I move to AZ.

We're supposed to get up to 59* today, which is pretty tropical for us!! Dh and I have a date to go for a jog/run late this afternoon, after all his meetings.

So far, I have s2s-ed and spiffed myself, gone to my tutoring session, talked to GG re: what she needs from us for her bday party tomorrow, finished groc. list - though I still don't have a menu plan for Th. dinner, had lunch, fielded call from dfriend B - we are going for a long walk tomorrow, emailed Th. dinner group.

GG is having a large sleepover party tomorrow night. I believe 7 girls are joining us for dinner, and I think 6 are sleeping over. They're coming to our house tomorrow at 6. We're heading to a nearby nice pizza place (local restaurant, not a natl chain) for pizzas and then taking all the girls to the theater to see Divergent, then home for cake? (I think 2 of her friends are bringing cakes) and activities that are hopefully somewhat guided and not too wild.

It's a tropical rain forest here today. Been raining steadily for a while. I don't know what's going on with work, DH is here back in bed with a sore throat and helper's lunch is missing from the cooler but his truck isn't here... their job is outside work..

Just been puttering around. Really not much to do. I got a couple cards made out to send (church stuff) but I'm waiting till closer to mail time to put them in the box because the stuff gets damp out there when it's rainy. I typed up my Minutes from last week so that's ready way ahead of time.

House is ok, all that's left is focus work, but I don't feel like doing much of that on such a dreary day. So I think I'll go read my book.

I haven't figured out what to do about the computer thing. Our tower is 2002 and going strong. We have kept it updated, have the latest service pack, etc., and upgraded memory a couple years ago. I'm hoping some virus protection will keep upgrading the XP version and also our malwear program we run occasionally. That program has been very good for us. New electronics isn't in our budget right now. I'm concerned about our excel program not syncing with new version anyway, and don't want to lose stuff, especially this year which is well underway. The past years' is all saved to disc and printed out so that's not a concern as much, but I have a gazillion spreadsheets going right now. Does anybody have any suggestions?

We don't have highland games around here. Different demographics I guess. We do have a swamp cabbage festival where they make things out of the swamp cabbage tree and have some bluegrass type music. Not the same thing at all.
