Did 2.25 miles on the treadmill (over 2.5 hours) and got the first draft of the sermon written. There were breaks during that time so total walking time was only 1:20. I might be wondering a bit with the sermon so will print it off and work on it in the car as we go out to the house tonight.

We are going out to McD's tonight. I think I can be good and just have a salad with grilled chicken and an apple for something extra to eat. So I'll end up my day within my calorie count. Dh is wanted it and there's no reason why he can't have it. We popped into a Walmart the other day and he stared longingly at the sign promoting a burger. I pointed out it was too early for dinner and he said it wasn't too early for a snack. He can snack on something like that but not me!

Our plan is to wait as long as I can, drive up to the nearest McD, and then hop on the highway and go to the house to get the garbage and recycle out there.

I'm going to gather up the garbage and recycle here and take it down now, picking up the mail on the way back upstairs.

According to doctor post-op instructions, LO isn't allowed to take a bath (no soaking) for 14 days. He is only supposed to take showers for the next couple of weeks.

I managed to cut through the final layer of bandage. That layer of bandage is attached and still hanging on so I covered everything with ointment again and hope gravity will be helpful. Sloooow progress but we are making progress!

Lunch was tuna fish sandwiches and chips. I had some boiled eggs that needed to be used so that was the deciding factor in menu plan.

Multiple phone calls received today.

Hi everyone! My car is back!!! Long live Elizabeth's Own Station Wagon! Here is when you know you have an older car: the auto shop people greet you by name and ask how was your walk. I walk there to get my exercise in. On the way, I was thinking about ways to economize, and had resolved to call my financial advisor about some insurance questions. He called me while I was in the auto shop parking lot! Is the guy psychic???

Today's goals: email check, at least one resume, take foster kitten Bolita to her new home, deposit check, start painting Anna skirt.

My best tip is set the timer for 15 minutes and just START. This can be used for housework, paperwork, software, and writing a dissertation. Also, whenever your car gets to a quarter tank, feed it.

Hope all is well soon for LO and the LM's. I am fussing with the steri-strips as they are extra long and have folded in a tight crease that is more tender then the incision. Now that I have seen the Dr., I pulled the end loose and cut it off to eliminate the tight crease.

I had a good report from the surgeon and don't have to go back unless something goes wrong.

We were able to get all of our shopping done before the Dr. appointment so then just came home. We has some sprinkles and a lot of mist on the way home thru the mountains. It wasn't raining in Yarnell when we started down the hill - but we ran into a gully washer about 1/2 way down. We drove quickly thru the beginnings of 3 landslides (water and mud on the road but we could see the rocks and dirt coming down the hill) and stopped to report it to an ADot worker parked further down the hill. I am eager go go back and see what damage it did.

Yarnell Hill road is two roads - one up the mountain and one down. The elevation goes up about 1,000 ft. in just a few miles. The roads hug the hill always on an incline (or decline) using the folds of the mountain as switchbacks. We can see the road from our front porch but can only watch cars at night when they have their lights on.

By the time we arrived home the rain had stopped and the sand in our yard was almost dry. Some places down in the Valley (Phoenix) had 2 inches and the burb next door had 1/8 inch. But it was nowhere like it was last week when the interstates flooded.

So far today I have done the dishes and washed a load of towels. Next up is to make a fresh peach cobbler before my peaches go bad.

Sigh of relief, the library ceremony is over and went very well. We had a lot more guests than expected and the weather cooperated beautifully.

The skirt I had planned to wear did not fit as well as I wanted, but I had dressy slacks as an alternative outfit and that turned out to be a better choice. It meant I was not trying to walk across uneven ground in dress pumps. It was hard enough for me to navigate in flats that I was glad that some of our elderly guests were being very slow and cautious.

Now I can relax this evening and finish the laundry. 8-)

The most sociable thing on the schedule for tomorrow is I might go to Sam's to buy a toner cartridge for my printer. It's hard to believe that I've printed enough to need more toner yet, but the machine keeps popping up a message.

C I to say hello to everyone.

Have been thinking of LO today and hoping he is feeling better. This will all soon be a distant memory.

Harmony, it's so good to hear that dh's biopsy was not cancer. Hope the ache eases quickly.

MT, was nice to hear you had a good report from your surgeon. I'm glad you're healing well.

We had a busy day yesterday. Actually it started with a phone call late Tuesday evening from dh's dnephew, Harry, his oldest dbro's dson. It seems he and his dwife are in FL visiting their youngest dd, and wanted to come visit us. The last time we saw them was when their children were ages 4, 5 and 6. The youngest is now 23! They got here about 1 pm so I had plenty of time in the morning to do a quick house blessing. We were excited to see them and enjoyed catching up on their dfamily, as well as dnephew's cousins that he sees frequently. We talked for about an hour then he treated us to a late lunch at Applebee's and then came back home to talk for a couple more hours. They left here about 6:30. It had rained all day from early morning till just before they left to go back to Orlando where their dd lives and works.

Hmm, my throwback does not come from P & P as I had not hear of them until I joined this community. It comes from personal experience in the mid 70's. I had two children ages 4 and 1 year. I not always had the bed made or kitchen cleaned up the first thing in the morning. One day I had a visit from the Avon lady, about mid-morning. After showing me the book she asked to use the bathroom. Once a person was in the hallway you were past the kitchen and the bedroom was in full view. Needless to say, after that day the bed was made as soon as I got up and the kitchen was cleaned up right after breakfast! It has been that way ever since!

There was nothing else on our calendar for today except a script refill for dh. He picked that up and then stopped at W-M for a few groceries. His dr. appointment with oncologist yesterday was good. His dr. is retiring at the beginning of 2015, he will have one more office visit with him in Dec. and then dr. will set him up with another dr. from his office. Hope he's as good as this dr. is! We both took a short nap this afternoon. We're just relaxing this evening.

Oh... Sometimes I don't think I've learned ANYTHING. I mean, I KNOW what to do, but I just don't seem to put any of it into practice.
Using the timer IS a great motivational device for me, when I can make myself do it.
I think I have learned a little bit about choosing my battles and giving myself positive self-talk. MT, you told me once to quit telling myself bad stuff and replace my fearful thoughts with a positive spin. I think I have gotten better at that, a little bit at least.

Watching ball game w/dh -- AU vs Kansas State. So far dh is NOT a happy camper.

Whew -- we finally scored -- 10-7 now, almost halftime.

Must note the loss of one of Harriet's native North Carolinians. Grand Ole Opry star of 53 years, George Hamilton IV passed away yesterday. Search YouTube for his name and the song, We Will Meet Again. Beautiful song, written by his son.
Tomorrow is another day.

Thank you, lucylee. I hadn't yet heard it. That's sad. Such a gentlemanly, intelligent fellow.

Ramblin', thanks for the long post about helps from P and P. I will look through those again and make sure I'm not letting anything slide!

A few throwbacks that come to mind:
Using elbow grease to clean, taught by my dgrandmother and dgreat-aunt.
Washing dishes as you go, taught by dcousinMary.
"To teach children to clean, clean WITH them." taught by my dmother.
Cards taking the place of too-long lists, taught by P and P (among many other things).
Morning and Evening Dailies, taught by our online site (among many other things).

Sunny, I have to second the lessons learned from unexpected company.

Emptynester and Elizabeth, happy to hear of some normalcy returning.

Back from dinner and errands. I stuck to the eating plan but am hungry again now. That's okay, I still have 150 calories to spend to get to my daily minimum so I should be hungry. I'm just thinking about what I want to spend them on. A glass of milk and a piece of chocolate? A cup of tea and a brownie? Some ice cream? Popcorn? Of those the milk is the healthiest option will do the best to fill me up since I really don't feel like savoury now. MyFitnessPal tells me I've had quite enough sugar today but am okay for carbs and fat.

It wasn't garbage day but we put out the compost. Ds wasn't home so I emailed him that the compost was out (and that I had found something he was looking for.) He texted me later to not be startled when we walked in the door, he was at the apartment!

We've tidied the car and brought up the boxes of collectibles. I'll figure out how to get rid of the things (but wanted to look them over one more time.) The music boxes have to be sold (there were $$$ to begin with) but the rest of the stuff will be left on the shelf downstairs.

Just this week we got a second exercise mat. Those cost a lot so we are thrilled. Now both of us can do floor exercises at the same time. (At the house, I'd just use a yoga mat on the carpet but here that isn't thick enough.)

The apartment is a disaster area so I need to get working on that now.

Lucylee:
that's sad about George Hamilton IV. He played the night we were at the Opry. He did seem very gentlemanly.

Quick C. I. - Saw the Dr. today. Am tapering off a med, which is addictive. He'll see me once month through Feb. 2015, so he can monitor me, as I decrease. Withdrawal goes with it. Am not a "happy" camper. Goes with the territory of the med though. :(

I'm trying to get a letter done to a dear friend, so it can go out tomorrow, on DH's way to town. I need to stay here because I'm getting a G. I. referral for a colonoscopy and their office may phone tomorrow. I want to be here for the call.

Just wanted to say "Hello!" I'm tired. It's been a long day with a bad night's sleep. Too much on my mind.

I like the opener, Twins' Mom. :D
