Here we go again with the thunder and rain. Our yard is still soggy from rain yesterday which started just as dfam#2 was leaving. I think Harmony is expecting more rain today also.

I had a slow start today along with and . I woke up around 8 am as usual, but with a headache. Took a couple of aspirin with breakfast. I fell back asleep for a little over an hour. Headache was gone, but I still have that muzzy feeling. Mondays are usually easy for me, so I'm taking it easy with a little general routine, reading and knitting. We lost our electrical power this morning about 10:15. I usually wait about 15 min. before calling to report it as the power is usually back in a few minutes time. I saw two power trucks down at the other end of our street and power came back about 45 minutes later.

Hoping Harriet's dd feels better this evening and you all catch up on your sleep.

Nancy, I'm glad you are getting better at adjusting your shots. It's really a tricky business, isn't it?

Kathryn, hope dson's move is going smoothly. I still miss the house I grew up in and the house we moved to north of our city where my dboys were born. I would live in either one of them again if I could!

Mail truck just drove by. I'll run between the raindrops to see what she left us!

This morning I stayed on schedule and was able accomplish most of the assigned cards.

AFter lunch I went to the pond and cut 3 willow branches and then used them to locate water for the owner of our local real estate company. He and his wife are planning to build a home but have not been able to find water. I told him to not tell me anything he knew about the water. I wanted to just walk around and let the sticks do their thing. It didn't take too long before an area was found that caused the willow branches to twist so hard in my hands that it took the top skin off part of my thumb. It was strong! He was videoing the process because he had never seen it done.

LO bumped heads with a friend today at recess and now his loose tooth is really loose. It is the top front tooth so he is limited on what he can bite into. Taking a bite of sandwich caused discomfort so we cut it up into bite size pieces. Love easy to solve "problems".

DH volunteered to take LO to Karate classes. I'm going to use this time to do paperwork.

SKIPPABLE RANT
I just called to confirm my new washer and dryer will be here on Wednesday. I want to paint the laundry room before installing the new appliances, but I don't want to remove the working washer until the day before the new one arrives. ANYway......when I called they told it it would be another TWO WEEKS before they order the appliances. WHAT? I drove 2 hours to make this purchase. At the appliance store there were 3 people that stood there and looked me in the eye and told me it would be ordered last Friday and arrive this Wednesday. Today I reminded them about that and they said....."well, we decided we would wait for two weeks before we placed the order." I asked "You looked me in the eye and lied to me last week, why should I believe anything you say this week?" They didn't have an answer.

Hello again! Lunch completed and highest priority job application done. Time for a break, which will consist of cleaning this disgusting sofa cushion and maybe a crisis cleaning slip. Add one item to my high priority list: call a person about a feral mom and babycats. The animal org is taking in another kitten, but someone else has first dibs. I gave her first dibs. She is a new foster, and it is always best to start them off with someone who is likely to get adopted soon. Also, if the kitten comes to me, I will want to get it some adoptive littermates. (Worked well last time). No matter who fosters it, it will help the org, because the kittens attract more people. We even get more adult adoptions when we have babycats showing.

FelineFriend: I wish I could say my motives are pure, but I have an ulterior motive as well. Thank you notes to interviewers remind them about you. They are inspired to think "which one was that?" and your name gets more familiar.

LadyMaverick: I would consider cancelling my order. I would definitely write a letter to the manager and the parent company.

Elizabeth - you do such a good job with the foster cats/kitten. I really admire the effort you put into it. DDIL just placed another one of her foster kittens last week. She has become so attached to them and really questioned the prospective "parents" to make sure it would be taken care of.

I just ordered a washer and dryer through Amazon! Why didn't I do this before? It turned out to be less expensive than the price I was quoted from the Appliance store last week. All 400+ lbs of it will be delivered to our home for free. Win-Win-Win! The down side is the units will be shipped from the factory.....which means 10-12 day wait. I would rather buy local but I can't find any in stock in the state. I called two other dealers and they said the same thing....these washers sell as soon as they hit the store. They can't keep them in stock.

I'm baaaaack! One more job application done and sent! The next highest priority job is identified for applying tomorrow. The sofa cushion is sprayed down with Nature's Miracle. I hope the smell will go away. Of course, the one I am using now may need it as well. The crisis cleaning paper assigned me to the garage. Definitely not completed, so the paper goes back into the jar. I am going to look at redbox and see if there is a movie I want to rent at the box within walking distance. I can watch that while I work on the Anna dress. After that, I will make a DPC and get another crisis cleaning slip. Then I guess I ought to get a snack. It's 630 here. I may BBL.

Elizabeth, thinking of you and the job hunt - yes, the follow up note is always a good idea to bring your name and the memory of the interview up again.

Lilac, a neighbor commented here the other day that they had seen a live mouse outside, so we are on the alert.

RR and FF, I've been rereading one of my favorites, The Shell Seekers.

Got dmom safely to doc and home again. I understand now when older people say they can't get out of the house until the afternoon. DMom couldn't remember the appt time so wasn't in a hurry, couldn't find bottom teeth (Dbro reports have been missing for at least a month) and she never thought about looking for hearing aids, but I was unable to locate them. Clothes that dbro is washing are not coming clean of spills (some purchased just this summer) so I may need to help with laundry. Appt took about 1.5 hours but she tolerated pretty well. I keep wondering how long she can continue to live there and how long dbro can handle taking care of her.

After getting her home, I took myself for a drive - took the route of a recent bike race here and tried to locate about where a great uncle's farm was in the 1960s, without luck. Was a nice day anyway...

Since I got home I haven't done much - napped a little, then have surfed the computer looking at genealogy research methods/logs/evernote/ancestry.com. Also talked to dd awhile.

Tomorrow I need to get busy again....

Moved back and forth from bedroom to laundry room (4th load spinning now, one more to go)
Moved around straightening baby room after ds/dgs left just now
Soon will be moving back and forth around the bed, getting the sheets back on

It has been one heck of a day, though, and I am no longer trying to wean myself off the Paxil. DH and I had words this morning, I was about at the point of tears, I don't know if it is the fact that I have been taking Paxil only every other day for the past 8 days -- or the fact that dh's knee is giving him such pain that he can barely walk -- but at any rate, that was the beginning of the day. Then ds accused me of "poking" at him, trying to stir him up about something... so when they are BOTH saying I'm contributing to the misunderstandings and frustration, maybe I am. Anyway, all is well now, so far as I know.

I am also experiencing "buyer's remorse" w/everything I purchase lately. I need to take a vow like Kathryn did some time ago and just not buy ANYTHING for a year.

The purse... I tried it last night without the snap-in insert/divider. Nah... it is just not going to work. I hate that it's not going to work, but it's just too heavy and missing too many things I want. It doesn't have the key fob hook... it won't stay snapped shut at the top... I love it, but I'm just never going to be happy with it. It will probably be next week before I get it back to Belk, but I only bought it last week; I know I can get it back to them within 30 days -- and I don't think Belk has any limit on returns, as long as you have your receipt.
(Harmony, I considered the bright blue one also. That was the only other color they had in the store, but I thought black would be better when I was "dressed-up." But now I'm just frustrated w/the whole thing.)

2nd... my new glasses... yes, yes, they're fine... dh even said he liked the clear ones better than my old ones. He kinda gave me a second look re: the sunglasses -- they have plastic tortoise shell frames and they are a good bit larger than my old ones. The look was: "Those are kinda like my mother used to wear." * sheesh * Not that there was really anything wrong w/hers -- except she may have worn men's sunglasses. Hers were quite a a bit larger than mine, IMHO. My problem is the tint. DS said he liked it... but it is just a basic amber/brown... and I really REALLY liked the pinkish/brown tint of my old ones. I mean, I REALLY liked it. I told dh everything looked so much prettier through my old glasses. Oscar the Grouch that he is today, he said, "Well, the world is not that pretty anyway, and there's no need to keep looking through rose-colored glasses." He was teasing. Well... 90% teasing, I think.

Elizabeth, you reminded me to send a thank you note to school, thanking them for allowing me to serve as grand marshal last week. I don't believe I ever sent thank you notes for interviews, but I have always heard it is an excellent idea. Ulterior motives or not, your top priority is to get that job, and the thank you note shows that at least you have enough manners and communication skills to be a good employee. Good for you!

OH GOOD!!! Just saw where you found them on amazon! Hooray! * Will this create any issues w/warranties, etc, or will they still be covered just as well throught the manufacturer alone? Here, we would not be able to do that, b/c dh would not want to undertake installation on his own... even though his dad was an appliance salesman and repairman for years. DH is just not confident enough to try anything like that himself. (Kinda gets on my nerves b/c his dad AND my dad were such wonderful handymen... but you know, you get what you get, I guess.)

I am fascinated by your ability to find water, LadyM! I know I've said that before, but it just amazes me.

Looking at Dee's prep to head South... boy... summer just went by in a hurry, didn't it?
I have the same problem w/magazine clippings, too, Dee! I never know what to do with them, so of course I can never find what I'm looking for/remember why I saved them anyway... but I don't know how to stop.

Speaking of magazines. Received a Better Homes and Gardens the other day, w/notice that Ladies Home Journal would no longer be available for home delivery; they were going to finish out my subscription w/BH&G. * sigh *

Speaking of math... (as we were w/LadyM & LO) I don't know how much of the Common Core math is actually being attempted in our elementary school, but if even half of what I keep hearing about it is true, I don't see how children will EVER learn math. It just seems ridiculous.

I'm recording Big Bang Theory now too, Bookie. Need to get caught up on my episodes! I realized when watching Sheldon deal w/his anxiety about change -- yes -- I am Sheldon.

(((Twins))). I certainly KWYM re: "need to call to make sure she is up." My dmom almost missed the parade the other night; said she was just sitting there, doing nothing, looking at my picture in the paper, and then suddenly she realized, "EEEK! It is after 5:00 already; parade starts at 6:00!" * sigh * Dmom also says she can't get anywhere before noon anymore. (Of course, I don't like to, either, but when I have an appt, I get up and get to it, even if I am running on little sleep.)
I told my dmom she WAS the third side-tracked sister. She is EXACTLY like P&P described themselves in their pre-organized days. I'm thinking they were triplets, separated at birth.
She emptied out all her bathroom cabinets the other night, and got too exhausted to decide what to do w/the stuff, and says she can barely get in there now to get her make-up on, etc... I'm serious; her life is exactly like they described in the early days.
I've got to make an attempt to see her tomorrow.

Hope Kathryn's ds will be very happy in his new apartment.
My old purses are handled much as Kathryn described, FF. I have a bunch hanging on a hook in my closet. Even though these are worn out completely and/or of a style that I will likely NEVER want to carry... it's hard for me to throw them out. Once a year or so, I will go through and donate or throw away some, but I always keep some that I should toss.

I HATE mice, too, Lilac!!! I know ds is going to have some work cut out for him, trying to figure out where they are getting in at dmil's house. Just the last year or so, it seemed she began to have more sightings than usual. We have not had problems indoors here * knock on wood * but as you said, it IS fast approaching that time of year, and I am always watchful. And as I've told y'all, we DEFINITELY had a problem under the floor with them. When we had our dog, I think we had less sightings even outdoors. There has been a stray cat hanging around here lately though -- I do NOT feed it -- but I do see it in the yard from time to time at night. Maybe it will help scare the mice away.

I bet it was beautiful in Colorado. DH said today that the fall colors should reach their peak here around the last week of October or the first week of November.

RR! Forever Amber... I didn't know the book was banned in 1944. It was one of my mother's favorite books when she was a teenager, too! I don't think I've ever read it -- maybe I did but it has been so long I've forgotten. Anyway, she said she almost named me Amber! She said Amber was NOT really the greatest person to model oneself after, and that the book WAS quite scandalous LOL, but she loved that book. She only changed her mind b/c Amber and my maiden name created something of an almost-rhyme and she thought the two names sounded silly together. LOL.

I am so tired.

I think I am just mentally exhausted dealing with people. DSiL wears me out. She is just like DH, and one of them is enough! I went to HD to help her order a big shower unit for her bathroom. That seemed to take forever. When I read LadyM's post about her washer, I thought, that better not be me with this shower thing. I'd throw a fit. DH is using the chart to frame in the walls around it without it being here. Crossing fingers.

I tried to guide DSiL in the medicine cabinet, toilet, sink, vanity and light sections. Instead of getting anything done, she picked some things she liked then said she was going to check another store down the road..... and here is DH framing up the walls not knowing what's going in...

And then I had to go to church Lady's house to pick up the thin comforter and duvet cover she wants me to sew together somehow..and oh here's the pillow cover that comes with the duvet in case you have enough left over to put in there....these 2 things are different sizes, so cut them off to fit... I wish I had the courage to say no, but she is elderly and nice..

Folded up the whites. Another LOL just finished, I will hang it up in the morning. Gosh we've just had another big deluge of rain. DSiL's property is in the country and it's so wet out there a guy in a truck got stuck in the mud and DH had to pull him out...and then had to go get more fill for the ruts. Supposed to be a cold front next week, maybe the rain will stop and Sunny and I will dry out a bit!

Hello, CathyS! it's so good you are back posting with us! I was asking about you last week, or at least saying we hadn't seen you in a while. I'm sorry you have had some upheaval and hope for lots of calm and an even keel soon. I saw some roller skating the other day on tv and thought of your dd.

Glad you handled it that way, LadyM. I was about to respond, but too many interruptions. I was just going to say if you knew the info on it, call their competitors. (I realize it might be a wide area.) Do remember to call and cancel the first order. One thing to consider - installation, since the delivery people will just drop it off. However, I imagine if you can handle the work at the MPB, you can handle hook-up of appliances. Or, a visit by your regular repair persons for any/all appliances is probably simple.

I did go back and nap today. Then I got my 4 items accomplished.

The Desk Day included a DPCall that had me so frustrated, trying to teach a customer service guy how to do his job, how to understand a statement/bill, how to breathe, etc. I should have known when it took me three times to understand what he was saying his name was, that it was not going to be an easy call.

Wow, Harmony, good luck on that big textile project. Maybe it will be pleasant to have a "change of occupation is rest".

Put up Angel Tree poster at church. Blah. It's boring, a generic photo. Turns out the bulletin board for projects is less than 4x4 square and the other things on it won't continue. One person (who should know) told me I could take the rest down, but I moved them over so as not to offend anyone. Tempting to ask minister if this project could take up the whole board with decoration around it to call attention. Maybe silly - the tree will eventually be in another corner and attention should be turned to it then. But just a construction paper tree with child-done title would be more attention grabbing than this.
