Duh... so sleepy I couldn't proofread, looks like. I was posting that at the car place, on my phone, so maybe that's my excuse.
They were able to fix the broken sunvisor, which I had forgotten about until late last night when dh mentioned it, but they had to order the part for the seat. They said it should be in in a couple days. Also suggested we have our brakes looked at again -- they are again making that high-pitched squealing sound. Seems like it was just no time ago when we had that done locally, but dh says it has been quite a few months and a quite a LOT of miles since then. So later this week, hopefully, I will be going back to the dealership and sitting for a longer time to get all that fixed.
* I HOPE it will be this week. Saturday's ballgame is an away game and dbil will be going with us. Dbil called earlier today and offered to drive, but dh told me to call him back and tell him dh will drive -- dh wants to go in our vehicle b/c of satellite radio -- more ballgames available. I hope this doesn't cause an upset w/dbil; I think he's just trying to be nice, but maybe he doesn't like dh driving all the time?

I did return the purse, and they credited my B elk account. I hope they are more reliable than LadyM's bank! I looked again for a reasonable purse, but I can find NOTHING that seems to suit me. Everything seems to have a snap or a zipper. I am even thinking now, if I had a good shoe repair shop to go to, they could probably put new straps on my old purse and fix it up for me. But I don't even know where a shoe shop is anymore. * sigh *
I used part of the credit to buy a pair of jeans and a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt in orange. That will give me something else to wear in college color that is a little dressier, not just a team t-shirt.
At one store, while looking for purse, I saw lots of college t-shirts I wanted, too, and they had plain sweatshirts and t-shirts suitable for monogramming at MUCH better prices than I have seen elsewhere. But... we are not independently wealthy, so I exercised some restraint there...

OH -- I dreamed the other night that I bought one of those little purses like y'all are talking about, Norma!

Also reverted back to my old sunglasses today. It was kinda hazy/cloudy, and the new "amber" tinted ones just seemed waaay too dark (and waaay too amber.)
Maybe I'll just save them for a spare. Maybe I will return them and get my money back.

Tried to take a nap to make up for missed sleep this morning, and ds called. Sounded like all was well there... he declined to go to ballgame Saturday since we only have one ticket available and ddil can't go with him. I figure that is a wise decision, although I would love for him to go and leave me home alone!
Ddil was very pleased to hear that I had bought "girl" jeans, LOL.

Harmony, they have put off potty training plans until... sometime. Since ddil will be home 24/7, approx. after Oct. 23, they have decided to wait until then, at least. Good luck to them. I hope they will all STAY at home until they achieve some sort of success with this, or give up for another six months or so!

And I do hope and PRAY that ddil will not go stir-crazy being a stay-at-home mom. PRAYING PRAYING PRAYING that there will be enough part-time work to keep her entertained, and NOT enough to tie up all OUR free time!

Wasn't tired but made myself to lay down. Slept for 42 minutes and feel great when I woke up. Not groggy. Maybe I can get used to taking a nap!

Insurance will pay for DH to get a replacement CPAP mask every 6 months. I keep a card to remind me to order a new one as soon as coverage becomes available. His mask cost over $200 so I don't want to buy before the insurance will pay. Today is 6 months so I called the doctor to request prescription sent to medical supply store.

LO just arrived home. Let the after school activities begin....

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post today's crisis cleaning success! I drew the last two CC slips from the jar and got: front door and walkway (done) and side south yard. There was some accumulated wind blown trash around this huge overgrown bush, so I decided to prune it. I got 4 full lawn and garden trash bags from that venture! I could only fit 3 in the trash can, but tomorrow is trash day. The last bag, and the half full one from previous yard work will have to go out next week. There is still some work to be done in that area, but it is just a small amount of weeding.

Of course, that does not mean that CC is done for the party. The slips of paper that did not get finished will go back into the jar for future work. Here is what is left:
Inside: LR, DR, MBR, kitchen, sewing room. The last is an enormous disaster. I may just rehang the door and close it. The kitchen is down to fridge clean, mop, one counter, and a small amount of stuff on the tables.
Outside: back north yard, side north yard, back porch, side south yard, back south yard. These are pretty much weeding.
Special: garage and tree removal. The garage is not necessary for the party, but it does need to be done. I can park in it, so it is not terrible.

Next up: website work until 4:00, when I have to pick up DD12.

Ramblinrose: That pattern is seriously cute! I am going to print it and, if time, make one or more for our church's CareNet baby shower in Feb. Surely there will be time before Feb!

Harmony: Back when I worked at a bank, there were special envelopes to deal with mangled checks. Sometimes the machines could be hard on them. There was clear cellophane to show the check and a paper strip at the bottom where the person manning the machines would re-type the routing number, account number, and the amount. Then the next machine would be able to read it.

lucylee: Potty training may work better if they don't stay home. When DD was learning, I took her to a favorite children's museum. She had an accident. Not unexpected at her age and experience, so we got her extra clothes from the car. Worked nicely until the next accident (having too much fun). I told her we had no more clothes, so we would have to go home. No fits or trouble from her, but on the way home, I got comments like, "I'm sad". After that, the only accidents she had were when she had UTIs.

Our friends are dropped off at their nephew's home after a wonderful visit. It turns out the nephew lives just 1.1 km from here. They could have walked over since their baggage has wheels!

Lawyer visit went fine except we learned that our property had an encumbrance on it (it was responsible for part of any debts of the Estate of D.C., the original owner of the farm that was made into our subdivision.) We knew nothing of this (so our original lawyer was careless) but our lawyer was also D.C.'s lawyer and handled her estate so knew that there were no debts left (she died over 30 years ago) and the land registry will take an affidavit from him stating that, so I just signed that. Thank heavens we went with him as our lawyer!

We went to the airport and dh updated his Nexus card's address and we picked up our friends. The sun was shining so we drove along the river, canal and other river, across in front of Parliament and then to our apartment. While we ate lunch it rained, shined, rained, shined, rained and there was a gorgeous full rainbow. We visited until it was time to drive to the nephew's house.

Dh has a haircut at 6:30 and I'll get a bang trim. Then we'll think of something light for dinner (we are not hungry at all now.)

This morning I had to inquiries into my SAD lite (the big one was for sale) and it is sold now. I need to double check that the bulbs still work. Just remembered that.

I have been to the library checked out a book and got a couple of mags. More hen chores done. Took a walk. Finished journaling. Worked on clearing the dining table. Watered the he front yd a bit.

Read 3 books with LO. Then we re-read one of the books again. He isn't doing well on AR test and needs a confidence boost that he CAN do it. I think we both have memorized the book "Biscuit and the Little pup". LO should be good to go on testing tomorrow.

Got a note from LO teacher that he needs to work on his math facts. Grrrrrrrr.....I've quit pushing the math facts and it shows. Gotta get going on it again. Pennies! I need to stock up on pennies!

While hamburger patties were cooking for supper, I divided and bagged the other 9 lbs of hamburger meat into meal size portions (1 lb). That finishes up the bulk meat buy I did on Saturday night. It was really poor timing to be processing all that meat, so I probably should have passed the bulk sale up, but I just happened upon it and decided the short term hassle would be worth the long term gain (easy prep meals).

Lady M I'm still rebuilding my freezer from the move. I'm also trying not to have as much on hand in case it fails so I won't lose a lot of $$$ but it isn't working well for me. Since going out for take-out or ready made at the grocery store is so easy, I find we are eating too many meals out.

Tonight we ended up with Subway after the hair cuts and then did a grocery shop at the discount store in the same plaza. The next two dinners are planned plus a squash for another day.

Need sleep. I think NOW. Will quickly go over the bills and see if I can safely put them all off until tomorrow.

Hello everyone. We had sunshine here all day up until late afternoon when it became more cloudy. I did hear a few thunder rumbles, but the rain was 10 - 20 miles north of us.

Turned out to be maintenance day here and we did have some ta-dahs today. Our semi-annual a/c check up was originally scheduled for last week, but because of all the rain we were having I rescheduled for today. The company only gives an estimated time such as "late morning", etc. I made sure to be up early to make sure dailies were started. Everything was done by 10 am. The Man came at 11:20 and completed his check up in 1/2 hour. A/c unit is working well!

A few months ago I noticed a tiny drip from the kitchen spigot. No big deal -- I put a jar under it and caught the water and used it to water plants. I'd known for a long time that we might have to replace the fixture at some point. Well, it started leaking underneath into the cabinet, so I put a bucket there, didn't have to empty it often until this past week. About a month ago dh bought a new fixture but when ds saw it he said it was the wrong one. So we took it back; ds said that ddil would keep looking for a nice one on sale, but never had the chance to find it. This past weekend it was leaking bad, so I emptied the cabinet, dh went to H-D and got the fixture and called ds last night and asked if he would put it in for him. He (dh) just can't get down and up to do those things any more. Ds stopped on his way home from work today and was done within an hour. Dh told him that all those times when he did plumbing repairs around the house when ds was young he never thought ds would be doing that for us one day! The new fixture looks nice and because of our two visitors today the house looks extra spiffy!

Elizabeth, here's hoping you hear something definite from the job offer. Well done on your CC!

Lady M, I seem to remember a whiny period my boys went though also. Loved the peanut butter solution!

Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep tonight. I was awakened about 3 am by dMinnie barking. We put a gate in the hall doorway, so DBlondie sleeps with us or in one of the other bedrooms or hall. Minnie has the living room, dining room, kitchen or family room. She can look out the front windows and sometimes sees a rabbit, cat, possum, or kids etc. The second time I heard her barking I got up and looked out to make sure not human, but didn't see anything, so it must have been an animal. I did get a half hour nap this afternoon before ds got here.

RE: Math....Saw a post on FB today about the way subtraction is being taught. It takes up to 7 or 8 steps, using addition, to find the answer to a simple math problem. I don't think I like the common core teaching method!

I just got a phone call from ds#2 asking if the sink fixture was working all right. He also asked if we would pick up dgd12 tomorrow morning and also take one of her friends who's in the band with her, to school tomorrow morning. I should go to bed now so I'll remember to set the alarm earlier.

Sunny, I have seen those things about Common Core math. It just looks completely beyond crazy to me. I don't know how that can make it any easier for any child to learn math. I certainly hope this little fad is out of fashion by the time dgs starts school!

Elizabeth -- good point re: the potty training.

Tonight's movie review is Left Behind. Have y'all noticed how Nicholas Cage always has this confused, dumbstruck look on his face? No matter what character he is playing? Well -- you can just imagine how confused he is when he is left behind. It's a pretty good movie, but pretty predictable, too, especially since it is a remake of the movie by the same name from some years ago. Based on the book series by Tim Lahaye (sp?) and Jerry Jenkins.

I have not been totally carried away by either of the movies I've seen these last two nights. But it is good to be able to go. I mean, I certainly support the message of the Left Behind series; it's just that I had the feeling I'd seen all this before -- which I had, of course. And, as in the first version, there is a preacher who is left behind, and that always troubles me... although I know there certainly may be false prophets, and preachers who are just in the business for the fame & fortune, (especially in the case of certain mega-churches.) But in these movies, it is never that sort of preacher; it is just the ordinary preacher who seemed to have his heart in the right place, apparently -- and then he finds out he didn't. This sort of thing always sends me on a spiral of thinking about my own shortcomings and dh has to remind me that faith as a grain of mustard seed is all that is required of us.
And Gone Girl... well, yeah, I had "seen" it before, too, having read the book already. And as I said last night, it was really not in my best interest at this point in time to dwell on a crazy, troubled marriage. Just sayin' (I started to say who was crazy in the marriage, but I don't want to give away any spoilers, in case some of y'all go see this.)

Anyway, we had a very good supper, and a nice time, and I searched yet another mall for a purse. Can y'all believe this??? I have now combed THREE malls (granted, most have the same stores) and I have about reached the conclusion that there is NO PURSE out there for me. * sheesh * Get this... I returned the purse, went to the jeans and tops section, tried on & bought jeans and tops, came back to the purses... and caught myself looking at the SAME PURSE I HAD JUST RETURNED. I really am beginning to doubt my sanity on this subject.
