Hello, villagers ~
We went up to visit DMIL today to hear from her about what her new apartment will be like. She doesn't sound like she wants to move there, but she is resigned that it is the right decision. It is helping her a lot to know that everyone agrees that nothing will be done with the house until next spring. If she decides in January that she has enough room for more of her things, someone will fetch them for her.
She told us about some of the things she's taking with her, and mentioned to me that she is glad she will have room for her sewing machine. She can't knit any more, but she still enjoys sewing nylon net dish scrubbies, and she is looking forward to making some of those right away after the move.
She was in the mood to go through shelves & drawers and give things away. That is not why we went there today, we wanted to visit with her in a quiet zone before all of the chaos and crowd next weekend. However, as I told DH, even though I don't need or want most of the yarn, magazines, and craft stuff she handed to me, I thought she was doing so well at letting things go that it was better to just put it all in our car and I will decide tomorrow how much will actually come into our house.
Saturday the 1st is her official move-in day. Hopefully there will be enough strong backs to move her bedroom furniture and such without injury. Waiting to hear how many of the younger generation can help.
DMIL has inspired me to continue decluttering our house. She's been in her house since 1961. If she can go through and get rid of stuff that's been accumulating for over 50 years, then I can go through what we've been accumulating here for 20.
