Again, I will have to read yesterday's PWYC when I can get to it. Sigh. Will give the scoop on my crazy Thursday later.......

((Emptynester)) what good helpers you had all around. I hope you won't ache too much today.

Well, Lilac, I hope she has the weather report right. Sounds chancy.

Nancy, what a joy that your dgs loves your house so much.

Quotes I like:

"I cleared the vanity of everything "
(I read this to mean that Harmony has cleared vanity itself right out of her life, and I was very impressed with her.)

"I just wanted to kick myself but couldn't figure out how to do it effectively." :| :)

Here's the scoop on yesterday. HRH had to have emergency-ish root canal. Sigh. He had been misdiagnosed or mis-prescribed by three dentists/doctors by then and it was getting to be less than humorous. This most recent dentist worked him in as first appointment at 7 something yesterday morning. I sat for 45 minutes alone before the first regular appt arrived, so I know it was a difficulty. This dentist said do NOT have a valium beforehand, which previous dentist had said DO have. This dentist wanted nitrous oxide, and wanted it to do its job alone.

But HRH has never had nitrous oxide before, and, true to form, he just does not respond to "drugs" of any ilk in an expected way. It all went wrong, had some kind of an opposite effect, making him super-alert as though he had had energy drinks, baffling the staff. So it took more than 2 hours, with staff trying to get that to work in futility, and ultimately HRH just said do the work with local only. The previous dentist's prescription of an antibiotic because of infection was evidently off-the-mark, and had not touched the infection at all, very frustrating for this dentist. And so this dentist gave a different one, so HRH will have been on antibiotics for 3 weeks before this is over.

Anyway, you can imagine - pharmacy took time, home to rest and WAY behind on everything, so I don't think I even got here yesterday.

I do have some Ta-Das. Will hope to think of some of them and tell! That might make me feel less scattered!

Dcleaning lady just left and I need to regroup instead of collapsing. While she worked, I cleaned up and moved some of the dried hydrangeas - they leave a mess behind from shedding. Our "gelt" - gold foil chocolate coins - arrived so I added some to the dreidels in DR and the arrangement of fake brownish pomegranates and nuts around candles. I took a length of royal blue fabric - unhemmed - to the front porch to see how it would look on the table between the rocking chairs as a runner - I have a brass menorah sitting there also.

I want lunch but don't know what I want.

I think I am going to head out with Moses to take him for his bath. I may stop off at M ichaels for a minute to see if they have thread so I might could sometime hem the fabric if I'm going to leave it there. It may be okay for now if the hem is pressed under well.

WHen I get back, I need to:
-s2s
-sweep front porch
-sweep back patio
-ck guest room - dcleaning lady dusted, vacuumed, etc. but I should ck supplies and lay out towels, etc also

So glad you're OK, MT. So glad those workers were in your home at the time.
Yay for decorations being up Kathyrn and others! We don't do many here, but they are still safely ensconced in the boxes in the laundry room. Or is it the attic?
Send Carmen over here when you're done cleaning and singing with her, Harmony!
Oh, ((HRH))). That does not sound like fun. ((HUGS)) to you too, Harriet for being with him in the waiting room.

Got an email last night from my cousin's dh telling me that they don't want to exchange gifts and asking about food while they're at my parents. My mother has already said she's not going to be cooking because of her heart attack. The email was kind of odd on a couple levels. It was very curt, and I don't know why my cousin didn't email me herself? His reason for not wanting to exchange gifts sounded very self-righteous. I will not engage in "our practices are more spiritual than yours" types of conversations, though it is possible he didn't mean it that way. He asked a very general question about food since they're going to go groc. shopping once here, and I wasn't sure what food he was asking about. Our visits to my parents overlap by about 36 hours. We need to coordinate a Christmas Eve meal and a Christmas dinner with them. That's all. I told him that and answered his questions cheerfully and told him it was absolutely fine not to exchange gifts. It makes my life easier, in fact! I did not touch his reasoning behind it. In terms of food, we need to include dbro. in the conversation b/c he enjoys cooking and may want to help one of those meals. Trying not to feel apprehensive re: possible culture clashes over the holidays. I loved my cousin growing up; we were really good friends despite being very different people growing up in very different settings in very different areas of the country. We wrote letters and kept in touch while apart and were inseparable when together. I keep reminding myself of that.

Done:
- up
- bfast
- checked emails
- looked over edits dh suggested
- looked over R's activities
- s2s and self-care
- emptied and reloaded dw
- otd at 9:20, a little late
- WW - a gain, which I knew
- tutored R
- lunch

Next:
- finish a.m. routine
- work on lesson plan for Sunday

Later:
- review A's activities
- meet A at 3:30
- home by 5:30
- greet dh at some point. I'm not sure what flight he's on, but he is returning from Europe today.
- out for dinner
- sundry other items that will pop up

helia, gift-giving can certainly be defended in a spiritual context, and no one has to wonder if it is not spiritual "enough". But of course there are plenty of wise reasons to limit it. I think you did very well answering. Actually, if casting about for an activity to call "less spiritual" than others, traditional feasting (often to the point of moving a belt-notch) would come up as a candidate before the giving of gifts. ;) I would assume that your feelings about what he said have to do with the impersonal method of emailing, and I wouldn't worry about it. He might be letting some defensiveness come through in his message, simply because he doesn't want to say they don't have enough money to keep giving to everyone they think expects it.

Thanks Harriet! Yes, I think you're right re: their reasons, which I do respect. Actually, I later thought of the perfect gracious answer, which would be that their traveling cross-country to be with us for Christmas was their gift to all of us. I've met him in person, and he is very nice, maybe a bit stringent in some ways, but generally kind-hearted. It is possible he didn't realize that we are arriving a day after they are so there isn't that much food to coordinate. Email is not always the best form of communication, that's for sure.

Have fun weaving, nancy!

OK, I'm spinning my wheels a bit here. . . Off to get them unstuck.

Such good news for Bw2 and her dd!

Home again, I spent too much time walking around M ichaels but it was very enjoyable!

Helia, I would echo Harriet that it's probably the impersonal - unable to convey the tone - issue with email. At least, I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt w email messages.

Need to s2s first.

List for the afternoon:
-s2s
-upstairs guest bedroom
-clean up my car a bit in case he wants to ride to temple with me later
-front porch
-back patio
-pick up Moses from bath

Poor HRH, Harriet! Oh, my! I've had those hairy experiences myself, the antibiotics after root canals and the hours in the chair mounting up, and it cuts into the whole entire day. It's not a happy day, those types of days, are challenging, but it's so nice to have them over with, to be healed and have no tooth pain anymore. All my best to your HRH and you, as you catch up today. The poor man. I sure feel for him.

I woke up with terrible Tinnitis acting up, 1 of my meds, which is actually an 'optional' one, I've gone off of before, causes it to be worst. I asked the nurse, to see if I can get the Dr. "okay" to go off of it, as I don't really "need" it, nor do I feel any difference on or off it, for what it's prescribed for, except that on it, it causes the ringing in the ears to get worst, louder, which is annoying to me.

I've s2s, shampooed, it's a nightgown/Muumuu day for me, as my back/shoulder are acting up, and my "plans" were to clean the glass shelves and mirrored walls of my dining room china cabinet TODAY! But it'll need to wait until another day instead. As long as it's clean prior to Dec. 21, I'll be happy. There's no "white glove inspector," to come around our home today, to give the china cabinet shelves a test!

Have a wonderful day, Everyone! I know this is short. It's just a quick C. I. I just wanted to tell you all, I'm thinking of you, I'll try to BBL, and enjoy your Conga Finishing Friday, if you're doing Congas today, too.
