Second Saturday of the New Year

Good morning!

It is just after 4 am and I am wide awake. After lying there for 30 minutes, I decided to just get up and get started. I have a lol going and I have 3 baskets of towels that need folded. There is no time like the present, so guess I will fold them.

Good Morning Lilac! Thanks for the start this morning.

I am feeling somewhat lazy this morning because Saturday is typically the one morning each week that I don't have to hit the floor running. Although that isn't really true for the next 6 weeks. LO has basketball camp that starts at 9:00am on Saturdays. So now I don't have any days of the week that I don't need to be up/dressed/fed and out the door in a timely manner. I need to wash my hair (and curl it) this morning so that adds an extra 30 minutes to my prep time today. I have less time than I think this morning so my lazy feeling needs to find a gear!

This afternoon is double birthday parties for niece and nephew. I haven't bought gifts yet (!) so will need to leave early and go shopping before we attend parties.

And so my day begins.....

All the towels have been folded, but now I have another load of towels washing. We use a lot of towels, plus nothing has been folded since before Christmas. The mattress pad needs washed. I have 2 of the same kind. It takes 2 of us to wrestle it onto the bed. I have tried to do it alone but it is such a snug fit that it is impossible. I can't even imagine how ridiculous I must have looked the one time I tried to put it on by myself.

I finally have the guest room put back together. I had washed the sheets but never got them back on the bed.

I find myself yawning now, but I am hoping that I can get by without a nap today and then go to bed at a decent time.

Both dds asked for and received F it Bits for Christmas. Now they have decided to set up challenges and they have others joining in. I wonder how long anyone will want to join them because dd1 is so competitive and dd2 isn't about to let her win. They are racking up some high numbers for steps walked.

Looks like Lady Maverick has a busy day ahead.

I'm up. Bedroom is tidied. We used only one humidifier last night and still got the number up to 38% (compared to 48% with two the night before.) That is acceptable so we can save wear and tear on the vaporizer for now.

Didn't sleep any better according to my fitbit but my throat and nose aren't as sore as they were when I was struggling to get 30% relative humidity. So the higher number helps a bit.

The day's plans are as follows:

1. Tidying and prep for brunch.
2. Update Quicken.
3. Update my Christmas card address list
<Those two items will clear a lot of the papers out off my desk.)
4. Cook lunch for dd, dsil and CM & CF's boys (and remember to wish CF Happy Birthday when he drops off the boys.)
5. Head downtown with the boys to the concert. Meet dd and dsil there (they have to take the bus because we don't have room for them in the car, but we'll take the car since it is cheaper than bus fare.)
6. Drop off the boys at an undetermined meeting point. Originally, CM and CF were spending his birthday afternoon together, and we were meeting for an early birthday dinner at a restaurant. Now she has a funeral to play for, so he's on his own. Not sure if the dinner plans are still on.

No idea when the boys will be here. It will be after their bowling league so sometime between 11:15 and 12:15. No idea for sure if dd and dsil are meeting us at the National Arts Centre or here for lunch. It is on her calendar but she wasn't committing either way since it depends on how the day goes. I've set the table for 7.

It is 9 and I'm still not dressed. Nor have I had breakfast although my tea is almost done.

today is desk day... I am hitting the I don't wanna phase. lol

(Almost the final countdown).....working on the reports from our church treasurer. So far have his 'expenditures' done -2 pages. Think there's 5 or 6 pages in all and they get more difficult as I go on. It will be absolutely awesome though if I can get the report sent off by Monday. That will be a huge "ta-da" moment definitely. Figured out how to expand treasurer's excel report and hide some columns so I can not retype 'everything'.

That will be my focus for today. Just have to take a break every now and then and give my eyes a break.

DD just put an impossible coconut pie in the oven for dinner. We're making mac 'n cheese from a recipe that's been doing the rounds on FB lately. We'll see how we like it.

Good morning friends! I'm having a slow morning too, though I did get up at 8 a.m. (was in bed at 12:40, so kind of late) to call the vet re: our sick guinea pig. Don't remember what I wrote yesterday, but I started seeing spots of blood in the cage. Anyhow, they could work me in if I got there asap. I threw on some clothes, made a cup of tea, and was at the vets' by 8:30. It is close to our home. The prognosis: the vet says she has quite a large mass in her abdomen and doesn't recommend surgery b/c this guinea pig, Starby, is pretty old (6.5 years) and has lost a lot of weight - and the surgery would be extremely invasive. She suspects the mass is in her reproductive tract. So, we're basically doing guinea pig hospice for a week and then we'll re-evaluate.

I was at the vet clinic for probably 1.5 hours. I did bring some work with me, so I wasn't just sitting in the room twiddling my thumbs. Once home, I got the meds into Starby (antibiotics and pain meds) and put both g. pigs away. I brought along Taffy, our other g. pig, because the 2 have never been separated, and I thought it would be nice for Starby to have a g. pig "friend" with her at the doctor's office.

I've chatted a bit with dh who has done a quick tidy and gone through a pile of mail on the desk and dealt with it. Yay!!

Later today, I need to do a quick run to the groc. store. I would like to do laundry too now that dh is back in town and the machine is fixed. Small group is at 5:30 tonight at another member's house. We're bringing bread to go with soup. I might see what I can do that is gluten free for our one young member (a child) who has gluten allergies.

Did you all hear of the huge car pile up on the west side of my state yesterday morning? The final count I saw this morning was 76 semis and 117 cars were involved. Amazingly, I've only heard of one death! I'd like to think this is b/c Michigan drivers in general (not all, of course) have some good sense driving in bad weather and maybe weren't driving too fast, though who knows how many were out of state. A semi full of fireworks was part of it, and of course there was fire and all the fireworks went off. There was another semi full of formic acid. It sounds like it was a mess! The interstate both directions is still closed.

We get to skip the funeral today because we have the boys. Would have gone to the visitation but it has been made just a hour before the funeral, instead of over a few days. That always annoys me because if I can't make it to the funeral, I also can't make it to the visitation so why bother having both? Just do the funeral and have visiting during the reception afterwards.

Tidying is done. I'm also s2s. Apartment is actually looking good except for the paperwork.

Having a relaxing Sat. Morning here today. I am doing my journal watching yard crashers marathon. Hens are fed still in the pen, one is doing iffy don't think she can't see very well may need to cull sigh she is not laying. Some leaves to contanerize for exercise. Today bs was up. It was 33* when I got up 40* a forecast high today. Waving to everyone! Time for more coffee.

d helia (((poor little guinea pig - hoping she is not uncomfortable too much))) I did see the accident in the news.. It must have been super slippery to have so many cars and trucks involved. so sad about the one person but it is lucky that not more were hurt with the amount of vehicles and those fireworks going off.
