Oh, I'm tired of trying to figure this out!! We didn't get that snow accumulation. Just didn't get snow at all. How can that many meteorologists misplace something that big? Instead, those clouds blew through faster than expected and on a slightly different track and "our" snow is being dumped onto others. Finally something pretty and soft, and we missed it.

Through the mid-afternoon it actually continued above freezing here and the sun came out. So my head is spinning with this, and what it means for roads. I'm going to forget it and be glad I'm not a decision-maker for anyone farther afield than my own household.

Still on track for what may be record lows tonight and tomorrow, so just trying to make good decisions for that. Tomorrow night low to be 3 degrees and windy, and that's enough to think about for anybody.

In our area the meteorologists have been having trouble as well, but nothing overly dramatic. We got 6 - 8x the snowfall forecast one day but we can handle that sort of snow, it just slows us all down badly and people were out (like me) who would have stayed home had the forecast been accurate.

Two days ago the forecast was for cold and clear when I went to bed and when I woke up in the morning, it was for warming (that's relative but beats colder!) and cloudy. I miss the sun. And in this case, they weren't able to forecast 12 hours in advance which makes the 10 day forecast a joke.

It is frustrating when no forecast is more useful than anything coming from meteorologists. A barometer can tell us air pressure and a thermometer the current temp. I have a wind gauge as well. With that I can make up my own mind and ignore the forecast.

I decided not to go with dh and am struggling with updating those accounts instead. It is slow work although it will get faster when I get into a rhythm and relearn keyboard shortcuts and learn to avoid mistakes that need correcting. I've got the entry done until Dec. 31 on one of the accounts but still have to do the final confirmation of holdings. And then start over with another account.

I'm on the treadmill now because I've been sitting for over 90 minutes and was getting stiff. I wanted some water and it took a while to move once I stood up so I decided I'd better get some more steps in and stretch myself out. There's no way I can do this work while on the treadmill so I needed to take the time away from the keyboard before it is too late and I can't because I don't want to disturb neighbours.

We have feted dfriend R. Some things were said during the speeches (we have a tradition of giving speeches to the birthday person) that were so very funny. . . . I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time. It's not that R is a particularly funny person either. It was more a story about dh and R that S hadn't heard that was hilarious, mostly due to dh's response to a situation, and S said some unintentionally funny things too.

The story, if anyone cares to know, is that one summer day, dh and dfriend R were going for a walk in a park together. They get together regularly and decided to go for a walk this day. Dh loves baby J and was proudly holding her during the walk. Dfriends R and S are Korean so baby J obviously is Korean-looking too. Dfriend R started to notice people were looking at them strangely. He commented to dh, "I think people think we are g ay." They thought that was kind of funny. Eventually, they sat down on a bench together with baby J sitting between them. An older couple came up and told them that baby J was a beautiful baby. Dh was the one who replied, "Thank you!" The couple looked at them rather strangely and walked away. I think dfriend R was flummoxed that dh had said that, and they had a good laugh over it later. So, I guess the moral is, appearances (and words) can be deceiving. Don't assume you know the relationship between 2 people you see in a park! It's a funnier story when dh and R tell it. Dh's replying "thank you!" for dfriend R is SO in line with his personality. Dh says he said thank you because someone was complimenting his friend's baby. Those who know him will say, "Yes, that is just like Mr. Helia." LOL! --The story is much funnier when dh and R tell it. . .

Back to real life. I'm going to do some basic tidying before going to bed. I'll get up early so I can steal out of the house before the people arrive for the 7 a.m. meeting at our house. Dh is going to make waffles and coffee for them.

I read the forecast wrong. Originally, it was 4 - 8" snow this weekend. Now, it is 4 - 6 inches. It is true; the forecast does keep changing.

Another long day and another day to obsess over silly things for me.

Met uncle and aunt at dmil's house; daunt wanted a small brass lamp. I just had "Lamp $25" in my head, so I told her that's what I wanted for it b/c that's what I charged other daunt yesterday. She didn't really flinch over the price, but when I marked it off my list, I realized I had charged her the full price of what the antique lady said for that lamp, and yesterday, other daunt got hers for about half what the antique lady suggested. (The ones other daunt got were much larger!) I told daunt I had over-charged her, didn't she want to get another one to go along with it... etc... Ended up, duncle got two shoeshine brushes and daunt took a brass tray also, so maybe they are happy with their purchase. Also, I called duncle later and told him neither dh nor ds wanted the world globe he had his eye on, and I would get that to him, also, ASAP. So all those items together I guess are worth $25.

Supper w/ds, ddil, dgs...

In between times, dgs has been with us all afternoon and evening. Dmom's phone kept giving a busy signal so I had ds/ddil stop by to check on her -- they were in her area anyway -- and she called me back, all was well, just had her portable phone emergency beeper off the hook, apparently.

Began sorting out some of the linens at dmil's -- trying to find complete sets of sheets, discarding torn/damaged sheets, etc.
Did two loads of laundry.
Went to bank & post office, with dh and dgs.

It is sooo cold here, but no precipitation in our area. Within our school district however, there was lots of snow and ice this morning and the 2-hour delayed start for school turned into a full day out. Still have winter storm watch through Saturday, I think.

Tired. Keeping up with a two-year-old for 7 hours is exhausting!

I was at another shop looking at purses yesterday and totally got Sticker Shock at that place. Tonight while DH was at Youth Group, I went to another couple and finally picked something. Turns out it's a little bit too heavy and a bit wintery looking, but it wasn't expensive, so I'll keep it and find something lighter in color and weight for summer. My old one has a shredded lining which I kept loosing stuff in so I'm glad to be rid of that one.

Have a brand new wallet DD gave me, and it's gorgeous, but when I get all my cards in they're too tight to even get out of the slots. So it's back to the old wallet.

I gotta say, Coach purses are really nice! No, I didn't buy one.

Covered all the vegetables but nothing else. We will be just on the edge of freezing. Bad thing is I'll probably need some of those sheets because DD is bringing 3 DGSons for the weekend...and I don't know if she and DSiL will be staying one evening..if they are I'm out of sheets! I'll just tell them to go sleep with the veggie plants...

Trying to get the fire going in the fireplace. We need the heat. It's resisting my efforts so far.

I think its a matter of sense to look out the window, as well as keep an ear and eye to latest weather whether.
48 hours here - probable cyclone to form, to Cat 1, to cat 2 then 3, and expected to cross coast as a 4.
IMHO the forecast is often after the effect in terms of cyclones effect. Expected to cross overnight.
I think - remember the unpredictablity of those predictions. They are known to stall, and do little loops if they feel like it. My own worry is if it sits off Fraser Island for a time.
I know many with plans to travel tomorrow, wondering what the morning will bring, and where it will go once it crosses, where. Wind isn't such a factor here atm. Rain is constant. I've stuffed the dog out and in a couple of times. Our walk may be nonexistant, which will mean hover with umbrella and hope he can be quick.

Remembering the anniversary of the bombing of Darwin, and the hundreds lost there, inc US ships and crew.

I hadn't slept last night, managed a couple of hours before support group, which didn't happen due to missing key and a number of people. We had a conversation and lunch i/l. I'm not quite so likely to quit now, as I had felt last night. I need reconfirm, no phone calls to me at night. It really upsets my settledness, especially when the call repeats night after night.

My judgementalness of judgemental people is also a curse.
