Hi everyone!
A major highway is closed in the southern Ontario area in both directions.
The QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way) has been closed due to wires down due to a transformer fire in the Burlington area.
Therefore, I can't get to work.
Plenty to do here to keep me busy.

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
Hi, Cathy. What an unusual day you are having. Hope that is corrected quickly - you've got to feel sorry for the line crews when that sort of thing happens.
Even though it is the quiet before the storm, it's nice our area got one day of normalcy today and even the schools are running on schedule, when no one thought they could. Tonight we get 4 to 6 inches over rain/icy mix, and when that freezes in early morning, buses will be going nowhere.
Living vicariously through Lynlee, LisaB, and possibly our FL villagers! I envision them tending flowers.
Actually, there are crocus under this here. Poor little frostbit things! And I don't know what will go on with the jonquils. We definitely saw some a few weeks ago. Wasn't a figment of imagination, lol.

Stay safe everyone.
I saw the news of a guy who dug a tunnel through the snow to his car, but had no idea how to get it out.
I was visual on that test too, however, there were times when none of the choices, or all of the choices depending on the situation, would have been the more correct answer.
Also, sequencing is a problem for me, so all in all I find ways around that difficulty.

A reminder - many people and children do better without certain artificial colours and flavours, and sometimes other common food influence ability, learning and behavour. Some so that as well as taking meds.
I used go to clinics at child guidance for my family with this dietitian in the 80s
http://foodintolerancepro.com/ She has an approach more in line with Ben Feingold's groundbreaking work from the 70s. She has a method of being a food detective to find cause and effect.
http://fedup.com.au/factsheets/support- ... e-eating-2 has a list of the artificials most likely to cause problems.
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Allergy Clinic in Sydney had A full elimination diet for those who need take things to that level.
From that program Sue Dengate set up the latter website, promoting the Failsafe Diet.
I'd recommend making less change initially than the full failsafe everything out approach. (Feingold did not take out as many foods as the Failsafe one.
My family's response to Feingold Diet in the 80s. DD1 stopped bouncing off walls, irrational reactions, her learning, reading , writing improved (Yr2, 7yo) DD2 'woke up' and started participating, speaking more. (Age 4) My skin colour improved and fatigue lifted. Testing oranges resulted in dd1 having grubby torn worksheets at school, and the RI teacher who would hand out lollies caused major disruption, as did parties, and staying at grandparents house. In later years relationship problems with friends were common when 'off diet'.
Dgs15 has himself on a no fruit diet. (many fruit are high in salicylates) I've seen both those dgks have major melt downs after eating lollies/candy. How they manage themselves now - not my business.
DD2 is aiming for the no artificials approach with her 2.
Personally - I mostly do the feingold approach, with additional 'nos', mostly coinciding with the FM /candida diet, and avoiding things dietitians have told me I seem allergic to, given my reactions.. I got sick on the Failsafe elimination diet, cos it allowed things I couldn't have, so I went back to what had worked earlier.
It is a bother to do, but worth it if it helps.
Temps back to 30C here Harriet. I cannot imagine that much cold.
I'll be washing and hanging things on the line here tomorrow.
500odd homes destroyed at least, plus many towns/ areas flooded particularly when dam gates opened automatically. grr. Bah Humbug . Me thinks incompetence.
Electricity still out to many areas. There may be places/isolated farms no one has got to yet to find out how the people are as access still cut.. Phones were out too.

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
Cathy: That's a major road to be closed! A lot of people will be telecommuting today or just late for work!
I'm up. Woke up at 6:30, rolled out of bed an hour later after running out of excuses to stay in bed.
The Rideau canal (the longest skating rink in the world) today has been open a record 47 days in a row. That's a testimony to our long run of cold, cold, weather. So far in 2015 we've had 3 days where the high temperature was at freezing or higher and we are now at 33 days in a row of temperatures below freezing (and significantly below freezing most of those days.) Surprisingly, according to Accuweather, only 4 days with below 0 as the high in the day. Of course, there were 40 days so far this year when the low temperature was below 0 and I have no wind chill records so even on many of the days when the high was above 0, it was only a degree or two above so the temps felt colder.
To say I'm sick of this is an understatement. Today it is at 10 and that is already the high for the day as we move into another deep freeze. So I need to get out to get my errands done today while it is 'warm.' Although it is snowing so I hate to go out - the roads are messy today.
I finally took the learning style quiz and came up with 45 Auditory, 30 Visual, 25 Tactile. That seems about right although many of the questions I wanted to answer 'yes' instead of choosing (as in which distracts you the most!) I hate when quizzes keep the answers in the same order so you are aware you are answering auditory to each question. And at least two questions the answer for me was what I felt (not tactile but impressions) and the answers offered didn't include that option. My minister friend and dh are both aware that I don't always 'see' things/people, I feel them. Sometimes it is overwhelming, sometimes it is background. (This fascinates my MF due to his studies as an analyst plus he feels me using it on him since he's a person I don't see but only feel.) The interesting thing to me is that I don't 'feel' everyone, just some people. And with some people it isn't consistent, it is only when there's a "disruption in the Force" as the Jedi would say! One of the most powerful examples of that was walking past a parishioner when I went to lead prayers of the people and having their pain overwhelm me. Normally, I see this person, not feel them.
Today is a normal panic day instead of a heavy panic day. Looking forward to less stress once we leave on the cruise!

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
Cathys - Thanks for the start this morning. Sorry about the disruption in service and work.
I always seem to be running a mile behind.....or more. I read about your lives and think well you manage them. That leads to the feeling of failing because I can't seem to stay up. Then my optimism pushes through and I decide to just to my best today and not think about how well someone else could/would do.
Last night I made contact with lady that cleans houses. I will meet her at the old house this afternoon. She is juggling several other things and can't promise to have the house cleaned before Sunday. If we close this week (like the realator thinks we will), I will just have to tell the new owners about the house cleaner.
I don't want to turn the water off to the house until the house cleaner is finished but I also have a slew of hoops to jump through. To get our water meter switched to new owners requires an unbelievable (to me) amount of paperwork and about 100 miles of driving. crazy. It is a blessing to have access to Rural Water system, however it can also be a PITA. There is no competition for service which means they make all the rules they want. I shouldn't complain, the demand to obtain a rural water meter is high and they are limited. They last I heard a meter cost $4k however they were not letting anyone else connect to the rural water system....at any price.
Speaking of water - our closest big town is preparing to do "cloud seeding" in hopes of making it rain this spring. That town is currently at Stage 4 in water restriction. No town ever wants to go to Stage 5 (the worst). The drought just seems to keep on and on.

The highway has re-opened, but the back up is massive.
My desire to drive in to work is just not there today. It is as if that was the final straw with this winter and this month.

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
Good morning, villagers ~
Yesterday was relatively warmer (20s), but today the temp will drop and we are supposed to get a lot of snow. I don't have to go anywhere today so I will be able to stay inside to enjoy the beauty. I'll deal with going out to shovel my driveway sometime tomorrow before work.
Yesterday I went to the dentist and wm.
I didn't get myself out the door early enough to put Goodwill donations in the car, but they are ready to go so I will try to go back to The Big City on Friday to drop off those 2 boxes.
Today my plan is to catch up the laundry and continue to declutter.
Trash and recycle bins are due on the curb tonight.

Kathryn, I feel unease complaining about the cold and snow/ice here because you have it so much worse than us, however, we do have snow coming in this afternoon. This means I must get moving and do my errands this morning. Grocery store will be mobbed, I'm afraid. Other errands are post office, bank, probably signing cks at temple (may wait until tomorrow?)

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
Yes, weather is crazy! I'm tired of the cold. We've actually had little snow, we're probably below average -- and I think (I haven't read this anywhere) that we are having more sunshine this winter than usual! Today is another sunny day with clear blue skies! If it's going to be frigid, sunshine helps a lot!! While we were breaking records for lows last? week, I read that somewhere in Alaska was breaking records for warmth at the exact same time. This was happening last year too; I wish Alaska would take their winter and give us back ours. LOL! This feels neverending. . . .
Interesting about the canal, Kathryn! That sounds very Dutch. The Dutch love skating on their canals when they can. Dh has fond memories of doing that as a kid. The opposite seems to be happening over there, though. They haven't held the elfstedentocht (11 cities tour) ice skating race since 1997 because the canals aren't freezing thick enough to support it. It is a 200 km. ice skating race on the canals through 11 cities. Most cities in NL are connected via canals. It is like a national holiday when they can hold it!
I was not very productive yesterday. I'm not off to a great start today either but am hoping to rectify that. It is 10 a.m. and I have only done part of my a.m. routine. I'm off to finish that and then prep for class. I do need to run some errands which I think I'll do after work and my meeting with my mentee. I skipped WW for several reasons. This is not my regular meeting (I can't go on Friday due to another meeting), I didn't stay on program well this week, I haven't missed a meeting since Dec. (I think), and I want the time this a.m. to be more productive. I'll be out 12:50 - close to 7 if I run errands after meeting with my mentee. Dd16 is out this afternoon and evening to her oboe lesson (moved from yesterday) and then a synchro meet she wants to attend.
