Friday frolic

Good morning all! Really sad to hear about Leonard Nimoy. I was never a Star Trek fan, but dearly loved his 'In Search Of'. Last night, I finally did something sensible - went to bed early. I have been fighting a miserable cold for a while, and just wanted my bed. It was a night with DD13, but all we did is eat and listen to music. Mom was very boring. After she left, I did the absolute minimum - cat care, me care, pack stuff for next day, and lay out clothes. I did find a pattern and some yarn for another Barbie dress. When I got to the train this morning, I realized that I didn't have a tape measure for the gauge swatch and the yarn, which had looked so orderly, was not orderly when unpacked, so it needs winding. I went back to my other project instead.

As I was boarding the train DD called to see if I was going to be staying home today. Schools had closed due to icy roads. My office seldom closes, so she is stuck at home with her less than adored stepbrother. They were right about the icy roads, my ABS has been tested and works.

At payroll, I have gone to a meeting, fixed a DAX query, consolidated and updated my ToDo lists from the beginning of the year onward. (Most items were completed, but had not been marked off. A few were brought forward.) More query work in my immediate future (which I love).

Tonight's plan is dinner out if friends don't cancel, buy more size 4 crochet hooks, get more printer ink, then home. The list for home is:

finish auction shawl
collect tax stuff (appointment is Tuesday)
DPC if I get info from someone else
wind yarn
put measuring tape in sewing bag
order next month's train ticket
file last month's train ticket reimbursement

I may do the train stuff at payroll during lunch. It is certainly work related!

So glad to hear that the vet didn't find anything terrible wrong with Twin's Mom's Moses's foot. I had been worrying about him quite a bit. The last time I took a foster cat in for a minor limp, it was bone cancer and the leg had to be removed. He did well for a year after that, but it got him in the end.

I am very unhappy with dd1. She and dgd18 were to go to a community college, 3 hours from here, today for a campus visit. All week they had been calling for snow today. I had gave her my opinion repeatedly that she should postpone it. Why risk your life? So they went and took a friend of dgds for good measure. It was snowing when they left. As they rolled into the college town, she started having car trouble. It was snowing there also. She called our niece who lives in that town, who had her dh call dd1 and recommend a repair shop. So the car is in the shop and she rented a car. They did not take any clothes, meds, etc. in case of being snowed in.

Dh's dsis who is having the CT scan today to see where her cancer is, lives with this niece. It irritates me that dd1 is there, because dn has her hands full with a depressed, distraught dm. Dsisil is not the type who can pull her self together in this situation.

It sounds like this 1 day trip may be very expensive for dd1, if she is paying for a hotel and meals for the 3 of them. She has called several times and acts so happy. I guess she is happy that she is having drama in her boring life. As part of her Christmas gift, her dh had paid for her to have a weekend at a local bed and breakfast, to do scrap booking with friends. It starts tonight.

Dm called and was not impressed when I told her of dd1s escapade. She usually thinks dd1 is perfect and can do no wrong.

I really didn't need any added stress. I am very worried about dh's biopsy that was done yesterday. We may know by Monday but if we haven't heard by Wednesday we are to call the dr.

My timer just went off so I need to get up from this recliner. I had closed my eyes for a bit. My foot was really, really, sore after the treadmill so I was elevating and stretching it and got too comfy to keep my eyes open.

Got the scheduling for the weekend granny handled and know the plan so that is good.

Passing out mugs of cyber hot cocoa to all my chilly SHE friends . It's close to 30 degrees here but that is warm compared to the recent deep freeze we've had, so no complaints from me.

Doing a catch up frolic today. I accompanied dh to an appointment yesterday & from there we went to a large mall so he could return a purchase. It was fun to browse in different stores & we got in lots of walking. Had a delicious gyro for lunch. There were skylights all over the top floor & food court; it was nice to have so much sun shining down on us.

On the way home a woman up ahead on the highway kept drifting out of her lane. When we passed her, she was holding her cell phone up near her face with both hands, & not looking at the road at all. Worst of all (as if that wasn't bad enough), there was a young child in the backseat. I asked dh to toot the horn, hoping it would make her look away from her phone & at the road. She didn't! It takes a lot to make me angry but her putting her child & all the cars around her in danger really upset me. I just don't understand what people are thinking when they do things like that.

Dh & I each have a desk here in the office. He's a very considerate guy -- at the moment he's watching a video online & put headphones on so I don't have to listen, too.

Looking forward to March, and Spring, and Daylight Saving Time! And flowers & green grass & leaves on trees & warmer days .

I'm in slow motion today. Staying busy but not at my normal speed.

I made chicken & cheese quesadillas for lunch. Simple, quick and filling.

Cleaning lady just txt that she finished cleaning our old home. I notified the rural water people to do final read-out and lock the meter. They said finding the meter under the snow will probably delay the process until next week.

Lilac, I'm glad at least your DD did not break down someplace remote where she couldn't get help.

We are 63°, very grey and misty and I am wearing my sweater inside...but that is the extent of my weather complaints...which is no complaint at all after I read what y'all are going through. It would be nice, though, to have a snow day where everything shut down and I would be able to sit by the window and watch the flakes drift down...

This is the last Friday of the month, which means a stack of work for me. I focused my time on clearing up some annoying problems. Phone call to county office made and a statement put together and sent off. Big OMM items now gone - such a relief!

Did a proposal with DH and emailed off. Guy wanted a couple changes and I cut and pasted the changes - and I'm talking scissors and glue stick - as I had not saved this in the computer and did not care to retype whole thing. Whatever works, right?! So that is off my mind also. Yahoo!

load dishwasher. Haven't wanted to deal with kitchen but need to now.
set up a payroll file
go to bank
pick up milk

Definitely not "frolicking" here, not b/c of any problems... just my usual slow-motion laziness.

Plus we have been "on hold" w/all sorts of other people today. Planned to go to the tax man, but he is not answering his phone.

Good news -- talked to antique lady and rescheduled for Monday. (It is supposed to be raining Monday, so I will believe it when I see it, but at least we have a time planned again.)

Called auto-teller bank... yes, my check was deposited.

Back and forth calls w/ds re: tax man, antique lady, granny.

Talked to dmom (granny) -- plans still on for lunch Sunday.

Checked tracking on package with post office. Very odd... it is from a C oach outlet store, for a purse, and it should have arrived (according to "my account" info) a WEEK ago. However... usps says it HAS received information that the package is being readied for shipping, or some such phrasing... and now I find out the package comes from CHINA. Some of you -- Kathryn? -- get international mail regularly. How long SHOULD it take a package to get from China to the USA? * sheesh * I had no idea when I ordered that it would ship from CHINA. * shaking my head *

Also sad to hear about Leonard Nimoy. My favorite character on Star Trek. (And y'all have heard me refer to ds as "Mr. Spock" many times.)

LOL re: Harriet's advice about going out on snowing roads with a man... Another funny thing about this is that more than one person advised me, long, long ago, to be careful about marrying an "older" man... that I would want to "get out and do things" and he'd just want to stay home. Ha. Ha. Ha. As I said earlier, ds got a big kick out of my story of "Captain Adventure" and added MY title: "His Faithful Companion, Old-Fogey."
