helia, his company pays for airfare, rental car and hotel room, so he can be quite independent. But when he comes here for 4 or 5 nights, he stays every afternoon/evening with us, a minimum of 4 hours and sometimes 6. The first night it can sometimes be pleasant, because he is an intelligent fellow, good conversationalist. But by the 4th night it is very inconvenient, and he comes back to this area so often with very little notice - like, hours. I suspect he's starting to request it.
Lately it's been once a month which is what brought on ds' comment. We eat more expensively, things we didn't mean to eat, and dd's homework time or our other responsibilities often get pushed to a back burner. I don't consider him any better friend of HRH than several I could think of, but somehow, because he has this "at loose ends" situation over and over, he manages to spend huge chunks of time with HRH. Other good friends barely have time with HRH, comparatively, and in fact, I suspect this situation pushes those friendships to the back burner, too.
