Good morning - I am having a quiet morning here but need to get moving.
The appt at the cabinet place was weird yesterday. In many ways, they do not seem as competent as I first believed and that made me uneasy and I felt grumpy. Dh seemed grumpy, partly because I banged the front of ds's Civic on the parking thingie that marks the parking place when we arrived, but no harm done, thankfully. Designer yesterday telling me something different altogether than the guy who measured did - designer asking what the measurements are for our TV and I snapped that the measuring guy had done that....just very uncomfortable. The designer person didn't seem to have much "bedside manner" and started off on the wrong foot with calling out something else as our name, then having to go ck her schedule (she was looking at Thursday appts instead of Wed?) for a while before coming back out. So after being reassured that they did this type of thing all the time, I'm sent to research a wall mount arm for the TV...
Ds had dinner with clients who were passing through town last night - not my favorite people, while I got to stamp some. We had an okay evening, but I was up a lot overnight with Moses.
I am going to do a couple of cites in RootsMagic (genealogy database) and then will get busy, I promise.

Re: Thursday Thimbles
My dh is in a mood. He was suppose to quit smoking yesterday but he had several left from the day before and smoked them. Then he decided he couldn't quit mid day and went to buy another pack. He finished it last night, so today he has none. He was so irritable before he left for his cardiologist appt. He hasn't gotten back yet and I am getting nervous. I reminded him that I didn't cause this benign tumor, any more than he did. It happened and we have to deal with it. Grrrrrrrrrrrr I know quitting is hard, because I did in 1987. I have never regretted quitting and never smoked again. He just has it in his head that he can't quit permanently. I know of several people who have been hypnotized and quit. I would bet money that my dh could not even be hypnotized and quit. I also reminded him that he would want me to be compliant if I was in his place, so he should be compliant. I told him that if he doesn't care, why should I. Did he just want to take the train by himself to KC? He told me he could do that if necessary. I would never let him go by himself, but I am really frustrated with him. He keeps worrying that he won't survive the surgery. Then he should be doing everything they told him to do, to have a better chance.
So sorry for the rant. I will be so glad when this surgery is over and we are home again.

Re: Thursday Thimbles
I just realized that the band concert is NEXT Thursday, not tonight, YEAH! I do still have Girls' Night Out with DD13, but it will be a normal day. I think the gang at work is going out for drinks tomorrow evening to celebrate the end of the IRS audit. Normally, on a Friday, my schedule is clear, but tomorrow, the x has a company function and I am taking DD. (She is old enough to stay by herself for an evening, but we both thought she would have more fun with me. I do have to get her back that night, because I have things to do Saturday morning and no time to drop her off.) I did want to go, but doesn't look like tomorrow will work.
I checked out the Pet Show and added my foster cats' pictures. I was able to get them from the animal org website, but don't have any for my own cat up yet. I assumed a dog with a name like Yukon would be some sort of sled dog.
I am posting here while waiting for Microsoft Word to stop mishandling my file. I think I am out of luck, because it has been churning for 15 minutes now. I think I will have to kill it and lose the changes. @#$%$!!!
ETA: Yes, I lost all my changes since the last save. Fortunately, it was only a small section, but what a pain in the tailbone.

I loved your cat pictures, Elizabeth. No. Yukon is a long haired German Shepherd. He was named by the rescue organization where we adopted him. The day he came into rescue there was a little dog they had named Panda Bear giving birth to a litter of puppies who were all given bear names. In keeping with the bear theme, they gave Yukon a rugged outdoor name.

Welcome to our newest member, kittykatt.
((Lilac)) Sometimes we know what it is we must do, know we will do it, but have a need to complain all the way to the doing. So frustrating to give up control sometimes. He knows you are there for him and surely appreciates you greatly.
Twins' Mom, that would make me grumpy, too. I hate to put my trust into someone who makes a good first impression but then wonder if I'm getting "the real picture" later.
It's interesting to me to hear how much or little others work with their "mending baskets". At this point in dd's life, she still suspects money grows on trees and her parents have just been holding out on her.
Dealing with the mending - or at least trying on and helping me as I deal with it - is very good for her.
Yesterday she needed that dress for a field trip, by bus, to big city for a real adult Job Fair. With no dream of actually catching an employer's eye, the teens were to dress in business clothing and trudge around the huge Fair with their resumes, to learn what it is to hope for a job and see that the needs are education and experience. (Neither of which they have, hence the reasoning for the field trip - convincing them to do as well as they can at summer internship and at making good grades.) Afterward, the group listened to some speeches and pep talks.
Went with HRH to an appt this a.m.
Next up more Desk Day.

Re: Thursday Thimbles
Now I understand part of RunKitty's photo posting concerns yesterday. Our photo info links weren't taking us to our Tips and Hints forum any more. They were linking to the previous server and basically blank pages. I've traced most of those back and inserted the correct new e-addresses. Sorry 'bout that! I knew I just needed to sleep on it. See, by 1:30 in the afternoon, I'm awake enough to figure that out. How efficient.

Re: Thursday Thimbles
Ds will be here at 4 and we'll drive to dinner for 4:30 and then the art gallery. SurferDude is parking his car here and taking the bus downtown and will meet us there. Then we'll drive him back here to his car. (He's staying out with his parents in the village next to our village but has his mom's car.) DD and dsil are coming in from their end of town by bus.
Just got news SurferDude's parents are moving this summer to the other side of the country. His dad is dh's friend so that will be a loss for dh but they've been growing apart since we've moved. His mom and I talk from time to time but not much - I'm always careful because SurferDude will often tell me stuff before he tells his mom and she's not comfortable with that.
Dd is causing me stress. She's asked for FB advice on
I'll see her tonight so perhaps this will get aired slightly then (not much, SurferDude is there.) We are a tough family to crack into (yes, we have relatively smart conversations) but that's not to say that we should not spend time with people who aren't as smart as us. Dfs comes to mind. Sometimes you do something out of love, not because it benefits you. Dd hasn't matured to that stage yet.
It scares me because her best friend B is wonderful (smart/witty/geek) but has a sister G who has Down's Syndrom. What if dd gives birth to a G instead of a B? Will she reject her own child as fully as she rejects spending time with others who don't meet her standards?
So all that is brewing in my head.
I've sorted the tax chits and I've opened the software and entered the identifying info but haven't started in on the numbers. Must do as much as I can in the next two hours.

The subtext which is coming out is that it isn't a random person she runs across but her brother's girlfriend. Whose offense is likely that she isn't as worldly or smart as dd. I'm will to guess the girlfriend is more tolerant of others though. What dd doesn't know is that when she says things like,"Do I need to tolerate spending time with people I'd rather not? I mean the not-objectionable people I just don't click with."
the hyperbole causes me pause. After all, I watch Amazing Race. Worse, I believe in God. If she feels that way about others, how does she feel about me? Not to mention that her brother is not stupid and has likely figured out she's talking about his girlfriend."I've come a long way from 'If you can't keep there/their/they're straight, you are too stupid to live' and 'anyone who watches reality TV shouldn't be allowed to breed'"

Re: Thursday Thimbles
Sorry for the worries about DD, Kathryn. Sometimes all we can do is just rain down love on them and know they will figure it out. Hope you have a happy dinner and visit.
