Re: Thriving Thursday
Made the WM run and filled up my car. Did some extra walking around WM -pushing the cart makes walking a little easier. The Charlie horse is still there but not as bad -at least right now. I used my cane to walk to and from the car -just in case my leg gave way.
Just posted on FB about dh's surgery tomorrow. Vacillated about whether to or not to. But many "ponders' will be looking for him tomorrow for this 'n that. At least a good share of them will know not to expect to find him or go asking the camp manager or owner "where is T?" And the grapevine around there???? Who needs phones? And I know how rumors start!! This way at least the truth is out there.

Re: Thriving Thursday
Still just catching up on posts from yesterday... ...
It's National Adopt a Pet day - thought I'd mention this for Elizabeth. I read that an interesting recent help to dog adoption is free (donated) DNA testing, that can tell the potential adoptive family of a mixed breed what the heritage is, to give a better idea of which pup is a good match for which household.
Lilac, have a safe trip! All best wishes to dh for a brief time under the weather and a fast recovery.
The discussion of health and weight yesterday has me thinking of so many responses I'll probably stick them into H and F thread when I get a chance.
Life and times on Sidetracked boards - dd was only a few months past 2 when I began posting. I was a lurker from the time she had a 2nd bday but took a while deciding to post. She's 16, so shortly I'll have been posting for a decade and a half. Gracious.
Ds30 is having an eventful few days - "process" of interviews at city hall. Will tell him that Twins' Mom reminded me of his high school graduation story. Ds was driving. We picked up my ddad, but before we could leave, a truck with long trailer carrying grading equipment ran into the ditch at the road. Part of it was in the ditch, part splayed across the road and end of ddad's driveway. Driver (whom we knew - dd35's age) was standing alongside phoning for help. Between us and the clear road was a pasture that was empty that day. So ds cut the electric fence, apologized to the fellow for not staying (because ordinarily ds would never leave excitement) and off we went across the pasture. He did call the neighbor (kinfolk) on his cell phone to explain.
Great room issues - I certainly understand, Dee. So often here, one family member feels restricted because the great room space is already in use. Even though there's enough square feet to accommodate 2 activities or 2 noise levels, everything is visible, everything is heard.

Re: Thriving Thursday
Great room is same here. I try to hang out with dh when he gets home but the TV is just too loud for me a lot of times. Sometimes I go to bedroom to read, and it even seems too loud from in there.
I need to regroup to head out with dMacs in a little more than 30 minutes. Will do some of neglected a.m. routine also. So far the day has gone as planned.
I've been meaning to tell Lilac how much I appreciated what she posted last week after I had a rough weekend with dh and dd.

Re: Thriving Thursday
Hi everyone!
I need to establish another habit, looking at calendar first thing when I get up. I was busy with coffee and tidying the kitchen, thinking/planning day in my head when I thought, "I'm supposed to be somewhere today..." and calendar has my brunch with the girls on it. Had just enough time to change my clothes, throw on a bit of makeup and out the door. Had breakfast with 2 past-deaconesses and 1 still-deaconess. I am glad we are still staying in touch with each other.
So I am playing catch up now. I stopped at store for bookcase shelf hardware (peg) and that took a long while because I couldn't find it. Then I came home and emptied the shelf and found the missing peg amongst the books... and glued the package of new pegs together to take back and fixed the shelf of books. Gah! What a waste of time that was.
Working on the last of month end work. I stopped at bank on the way home. Making slow progress around here. I hate that everything is late today, meds off schedule...and I can't do the last LOL because I am presently out of hangers.
I'm not fond of great rooms. Looking around while I am trying to relax and seeing messes elsewhere or work to be done is not relaxing to me. I often seek out the quiet corner room in the front away from the tv to read, etc., especially when DH is on the phone. I wonder how many years before it goes out of style?

Re: Thriving Thursday
Coming up for air.
The taxes are e-filed but there was an additional form we had to fill in and mail today. Turns out that was 2 hours of work. Sigh....
Anyway, rather than mail it, since the taxation centre is a short drive from here, we are going to save the $1 and take it there - they have boxes set up to receive forms.
This apartment doesn't really have a great-room. It just has a large living room and archway to dining room (there were ugly doors we removed!) Yes, there are problems when one of us wants to use the room and the other just wants to relax. We have two lounge chairs in the bedroom to help give us a second place but that's just if one of us goes off. If we have multiple guests we can't break into different rooms.
Right now, the room is covered in papers. I have a lot of filing to do now that the taxes are done.
I'm taking the next couple of days off paperwork and then will start on the business bookkeeping on Monday. That gives me just a week to complete it. Hmmmm, maybe I should write a sermon tomorrow so I don't have to do that and the business bookkeeping at the same time.
My minister friend finally confirmed this Sunday so we'll drive up and attend his service. He wants sushi for lunch so I've agreed (checked the menu and they have regular chinese food so I'll find something to eat although I'll break my diet - but that was a given no matter where we ate!) Dh likes sashimi so there's something for him there that we wouldn't normally get.

Re: Thriving Thursday
Hello, villagers ~
I had to take DH to work today so that meant in addition to being up before him (which I usually am anyway), I had to be ready to leave the house very early. I decided that since I was driving to TheBigCity I might as well go to wm for groceries. Nothing else was open that early.
I don't remember the last time I went to wm so early in the morning. The parking lot was so empty! I'm used to having to maneuver around a lot more customers in the aisles, even at midnight. Now I'm curious if they are always slow before 8AM, or just on Thursdays, or just today.
After I got home and put away groceries, I caught up on some computer work (starting month-end reports) and answered several Emails.
I was hoping DH's car would be done this morning so I could take him to get it on his lunch hour. Now I'm waiting to hear from DH about whether or not I have to go get him before I go to work, or if they offered to pick him up. The timing will be tricky if it takes much longer, since I have to be to work at the library by 4:45.
I'm doing bits & bobs (or odds & sods
) around the house but can't start anything too complicated.
Guess I'll start washing dishes next. Need to make a DPC but have to wait until at least another half hour before doing that.

more Omega 3 sources walnuts, cold water fish, flax seed and fish oil supplements.
Other things I've at least heard will help joints - supplements with eggshell membrane in them. Bromaine (in pineapple but it's an enzyme that comes in supplement form, too).
Some people are non-responders to glucosamine chondroitin.
Shameless bragging moment - ds has been promoted to Deputy Fire Chief of his work-city even though he was young among the applicants. The recommendation of the panel of officials from other cities called ds, "wise beyond his years and a forward thinker". It was pretty tough I think. I know he said 3 essays to write and then each candidate had an hour's closed-room questioning by the panel, plus other things.
Ds says the hardest part of the change will be "stepping off the truck" after 13 years (he started at 17 as a volunteer trainee at our local dept). He'll be presenting reports at city council meetings now and solving personnel problems, teaching. He will still go on all fire calls and direct firefighting if he is available, but few other calls. City manager is happy because they will be promoting from within, something the city council likes to hear.

If you are starting to feel pain in your joints try glucosamine chondroitin for 30-90 days at 500mg 3x/day in divided doses. If your pain doesn’t go away you can stop taking it as you are probably a non-responder. - Amanda Carlson-Phillips, MS, RD, CSSD

Re: Thriving Thursday
Tell ds "Congratulations" from us, Harriet. Know he's well earned it. Our DS-A is Deputy Fire Chief -but it's a (fairly good sized) volunteer department. His next step will be that of Fire Chief. Dh has said he wants to stay on as 'fire police' until after ds has served out his terms. Not really sure he can but I know he'll certainly try. At least he's not there for all this winter calls.

Re: Thriving Thursday
Congratulations to Harriet's DS!
I finally heard from DH. His car is done and he decided it is so nice today that he will walk from his work to the mechanic's shop, about 2 miles. It worries me because it's 2 miles through rush hour extremely busy city traffic, but he says he wants the exercise.
I decided to delay the DPC until tomorrow. I could potentially be put on hold for some time, and I don't want to be made late for work.
Speaking of which, better go check my bag to be sure I have everything I need.
