I've been so busy outside that the inside is suffering. Today I took care of that. I changed the master bed sheets and those are washed and put away. Other bed's sheets are in the dryer. Then I tackled the dust bunnies all over the place. Pieces of grass in the main living areas and bunnies in the bedroom and 1 hallway, even in the office. Unbelievable. I ran vacuum in whole house. Then I mopped under the beds where the bunnies like to hide and the corners. Mopped a couple hallways. Mopped 2 bathrooms. I guess I did pretty much the whole house.

Still have to go out and water plants. DH has been keeping me busy. He is a little "charged up" today, excitement over all this stuff he's doing. I tell him to relax a bit, does he listen? No he's been on the phone a lot too.

Saying a prayer all is ok with LadyM and family.

I just ate a bit of lunch, brought it back here with me. No use eating it in front of DH and making him hungry. He never misses his meals.

Ok off I go to water. It looks like rain later on. It'll probably wait till after I water.

Pressed a bag.
I had to take a rest break, my tummy was off after having salsa yesterday.
All laundry is done.

I'm doing okay. I need to do at least another round.

Things that got done:
-more garage straighten up
-folded laundry
-did solution for my cpap mask etc, (whoops, still soaking!)
-refrigerator purging
-rebooted laundry to dryer, folded load that came out of dryer

This time I need to make a point of going around behind all the places I've been so I can clean up behind myself.


Well this sat here and so did I! Will reset for 45 min and go in a few minutes.

I did end up working one-on-one with DS14 for those final 2 homeschool assignments. Algebra is overwhelming DS14 so I'm going to pivot and teach it using different methods until we find one that works for him. I am trying to not get anxious because DS14 can't keep up with the state schedule that public schools attempts to do.

Recently I was listening to a group of ladies discuss their experience with high school/young adults that could not do simple math. Their opinion is that it is widespread across that generation. I don't like to paint an entire generation with the same stroke of a brush (so to speak) but I've seen it myself over and over. I don't know if it is caused by the c19 interruption to school or maybe because the focus is on learning how to pass the state test. DD11 recently shared with me that she has forgotten how to add and subtract horizontally because it has been so long since she has done it. I told DD11 that was easily solved by doing xtraMath. That software is an awesome way to keep math skills with minimum effort. I'm sure there are other options but that is the one that I'm familiar with using.
Recently I bought 2 items at the local fair that cost $3 and $8. I gave a $20 bill to the student (a senior) that was taking money. He tried but wasn't able to add 3+8 and subtract the sum from 20 in his head. He got his phone out and used the calculator to do it. I was a bit stunned (and sad) to see the young man struggle with basic math. I could tell he was embarrassed by it. And yet.....that young man will graduate from public high school this year.

I have 15 minutes before picking up DD11 from school. I'm going to sit here and take a break while drinking my noon coffee. I probably will regret drinking coffee this late in the day but I look forward to that treat. I still have 6 busy hours before bedtime so it is worth the risk to me.

My math experience was I had basic algebra when I was a jr. or sr. I only passed bc a freshman brainy
kid sat in front of me and explained it to me. That was after I'd had tutoring in jr. hi. also.
I can count change back that was a sill mom taught to me over the summer and I had to
practice bc I had to do the till at work sometimes, on my summer job in that age range.

My dgd 8th grade does math games on her phone her mom has a thing they do some of the math game before others,
she is also learning Spanish on a program on her iphone, I tried it but it was beyond me not my learning style.
I think I have to copy stuff down.
On the pc I try to get a word right three times before I go to spell checker.

TWC has been ignoring the west until today,
there were a big storm in Alaska last weekend they ignored!

Something quirky I got some teal glass canisters, had to take the brown sugar out of one
bc it was an odd color compared to the ones with white stuff flower & biscuit mix in em.
So I will change that out when I get to the store.

Home from picking up DD11 from school. She has 2 book reports due tomorrow. I'm not pleased with myself for not monitoring this bi-weekly assignment closer and mentoring her better. DD11 has procrastinated and now it is crunch time. Youth activities start in an hour so she will miss that fun activity.

I didn't get my 15 minute break because DH woke up and wanted to talk. I told DH that the nurse called while he was asleep because the road to DMIL home is blocked with equipment repaving the road. I encourage the nurse to talk with equipment operators and tell them she is a hospice nurse for a patient on that closed road. They should let her through. Also I told the nurse that the cipro had not arrived. She is going to check on it and reorder it if needed.

Yesterday DH asked the nurse what he should do when DMIL dies. The nurse said to call them immediately and let them handle it.
This brought up the topic of DMIL funeral arraignment and payment. None of these arraignments are decided. I encouraged DH to get with his siblings and make decisions on which funeral company they want to use and then meet with them and make the arraignments. Because DH sister & brother do not get along AT ALL, it would be better to have this potential drama filled meeting now instead of later when grief & emotions are running high.

What. A. Day.

That no phone before s2s stuff... boy... that went out the window quickly. I did not get s2s till almost 2:00 pm and I still don't have makeup on and I still haven't done Bible/devotional reading.
Whew.
FIRST THING, renter called to let us know they have a leak in their roof. Well. This is certainly NOT an expense we wanted to deal with at this point.
Sigh. I called the roofer. He will try to see them next week and see how bad it is, if we need to replace the roof. Pretty sure we will, because I know it is over 15 years old and probably closer to 20.

Then, losing my motivation for everything, I sat around and ate and played on the phone and waited for dh to get off the computer. Helped him with some things, added ballgames to my calendar (college basketball schedule), answered a couple emails from friends, and FINALLY did my "morning stretches" and got in the shower.

Went to the post office. Got the fancy planner I told y'all about. DID NOT OPEN IT. It is a Christmas present.

Checked on recycling places... no one around here takes newspapers anymore -- just cardboard. The renter, who had been recycling papers, had told us he was going to quit taking them for that very reason. So our trash load will be a little bigger now.

Read the paper with dh.

Contacted a couple business things via email trying to get some orders/memberships straightened out. Grrrr...

Like blessed -- I agree -- it makes it count by spending time with you ladies!

I'm still coughing, too, Twins. Took some rx cough medicine last night, but I'm trying Mucinex today.
Rumor is that my doctor's office is closed because some staff members have Covid. (I don't need the doctor, just realizing it IS still going around here. One of the friends I emailed reported that she didn't attend meeting yesterday because her dh has it.)
And -- Wow -- WTG on all you are getting accomplished today!

(((LadyM))) I know LordM must be so exhausted. And you are right, better to clear things with siblings as early as possible. I know we had some tense times with dbil during the days between dmil's death and her funeral. Everyone is at the end of their rope at a time like that.
BTW -- Your skillet stir fry sounds amazing!

LadyM, the key to what you said about ds14's struggle with algebra is "the state schedule that public schools attempts to do." As you can see, public schools aren't keeping up, either. In fact they are having more of a struggle, because they have to adjust for the lower levels of understanding in each classroom, and take time there, PLUS they have all the interruptions from various activities, and the catch-up necessary when students are absent. So just relax and know that YOU are doing a phenomenal job with YOUR student!
(Nancy, I can count change back, mainly because of my high school experience working as a clerk in a drug store, and even though the cash register told us exactly what change was owed, my grandfather -- a frequent visitor at the coffee drinkers' table there -- stressed to me that people want you to count it back, not just say, "Here's your change." OTOH, I never even took the first year of algebra. It wasn't required and I was scared to try it!)

LadyM, the hospice nurse was wonderful when dmom passed away. I called her immediately and she probably came within an hour? She verified death and recorded time of death, and may have even made the call to the funeral home. She stayed with me until the funeral home people came and left. She was supportive and able to answer questions and help me.

Please let your dh know!

Sending good vibes to each of you tonight. May you all have a restful night. I posted a 'too long' post in J&C. Find myself in tears again tonight and just so terribly frustrated. Will be calling dh's cardiologist's office in the morning.

The math thing...I couldn't add 8 +3 and take it from 20 in my head either without my little cheat of twitching my fingers and I do that really quickly and come up with the number. Then I read Nancy's post and thought oh, money yes. 11 from a 20$ bill is where I count from 11 to 15, that's 4 ones and then a 5 dollar bill. So that's $9 given back. Just writing that down makes it seem complicated. But I used to work at a dry cleaners (I was counter help) and there was no register, just a wooden drawer to pull out from beneath the counter and I had to count the money back. Then I worked in an office supply and I counted the money back the same way. Nobody ever taught me that or showed me, it was just intuitive. Today's kids at registers could not give money back without the register telling them how much. You can't give them a bill which they put in the register number quick and if you hand them a quarter or something to make the change even to a bill they have NO idea how to deal with that.

Our teachers here all complain about teaching to the test, which is not really teaching. Our Governor, when he ran for office, promised to get rid of common core teaching and the florida state testing. I don't know how much of that he's done. We are totally dependent on our electronics these days, computers, calculators, etc. I admit to not thinking too much any more, but using the button for totaling on my spreadsheet and my calculator on my desk. It's easier than thinking. But I'm glad I can do it if I must.

Hugs for (Dee) and for (LadyM). LadyM, maybe your DD getting behind with her assignments is a good lesson. At some point our kids have to take over responsibility for remembering stuff for themselves.

I got DH through the day. He had chicken broth for dinner and I put some in a pot and made soup out of it for me. By tomorrow afternoon this will be all over. We are out the door early tomorrow morning.

2nd bed made. I ironed the few pieces I had waiting for that. We had a big rain. Nancy, I did see the big storm in Alaska several days ago. I think TWC mostly focuses on the eastern half of the US and some of the middle, and the Weather Nation channel focuses mostly on the West Coast.

Been a busy day. My pillow is calling.
