Sniffling Saturday

Day is being reshaped.

I realized I didn't have to wash my hair, I was only doing so in case photos were taken today. They aren't going to be, so I can wait until tomorrow.

We had a skype call with the grands and showed them each ornament and then they told us where to put them on the tree. Dh said, "we aren't putting all these on the tree, are we?" I had to say yes, and point out all the fragile ones that would usually be on the tree too. The tree looks much better now with ornaments on it.

After I finished the tree, I read dgs a chapter from a Christmas novelette. He's bored because everything is cancelled again for him. At least they were allowed out to play a bit in the snow.

Dh tested negative today as well (he hadn't tested for 7 days) so I stopped wearing a mask around him. He's no longer contagious for sure and if I become positive in the next days, it will be from him and he should be resistant to that strain for now. Plus he's not coughing a lot (just a dry cough now and then) or visibly sick in any way.

I'm in the process of getting the bed ready for me to move back in. That entails stripping it completely including his pillow covers, washing it all and then putting it back on the bed. Thankfully, I have a second mattress pad, so it is only his duvet and the pillow covers that need to be dried before remaking the bed. Oh, and the bed spread which will be in the second of three loads of laundry.

I have been in the kitchen cooking I made up soup.
Got one batch of sausage done the next was frozen so it is still cooking in the oven.
A sniff or two to make sure the spices were good on that was nice!
The dog has been sniffing too she likes it when I cook!
Having s bit of broth from the soup for a taste test and it is quite yummy!

Had a s mall head of cabbage to use so I put half of it in and the other I chopped up for later.
Got out various veg. from the freezer and put that in as well.
Very hardy and have now put in some sausage plus some v-8.
Chicken broth powder was the base.

our Christmas cards came in
having yogurt, grape nuts and a separate dish of grapefruit.
watching Arne and Carlos sit and knit a bit Christmas daily program. They are doing a contest where the winner can talk to them through zoom - with 2 friends.

okay - I don't know if I took my meds mmmm

received the Christmas cards
ordered my mom's chocolate for her for Christmas
she got her stinky cheese and is eating it.
I also sent a book she wanted : Faith still moves mountains
I ordered the Christmas stocking things bc I do not want to go to the store.
dh also mentioned something - a cassette player and recorder - I ordered it. - it will be a nice surprise.

waiting for one of the white elephant to come today.
wrote everyone mom's calendar for the next week
spoke to mom twice. she is feeling better about what she is doing for Christmas.

time to stop sitting for quite a bit.

We went to the funeral of a friend this morning. It was a nice church out in the country. Some of the people speaking had that southern accent twang. It was a wonderful service and the ladies of the church had a nice luncheon afterward. We sat and ate with our friends from this area. A bunch of us are all old-timers from our church years and years ago. One lady I hadn't seen in so many years, bent and grey. I got the news about one of our group ill now, and 1 recently passed away. That's 3 who have passed in the past couple months. This fellow who the service was for got sick all of a sudden and was going for more tests, and they suspected something bad and he had told his wife, I think I'm going now; you've been a good wife it's been wonderful having you, and then he was gone.

Thinking about this group: 1 couple, both are managing health conditions. They are selling in a year and moving to their summer home in N C. Another couple, he has parkinsons now. That leaves us. Much to think about.

We stopped at a shipping store on the way home that gets mail on its way via usps or ups or fedX. Last package is in the mail now. They weren't guaranteeing it would get there, but said the mail has been going better than predicted... so crossing my fingers. Our regular post offices are closed Saturdays. I was surprised when the news reported this is the last day to ship...when our post offices are closed. If I didn't know about this little place, I couldn't have gotten it on its way.

I received my vitamins yesterday and I'm waiting for 1 gift and my water pik hose.

Tired from all this today. DH is napping. BBL

I have been out to the mailbox.
Started the one rig to let it run a bit as I did not want / need to go anywhere.
Got the soup made and it is good, the rest is cooling to put up for later.
I made 4 mini pizza as the last few times the store had been out of them so I froze two and the
other two are in the oven raising. Will be a late lunch for me.

The pizza was good.
Got the soup container in the fridge.
Kitchen is spiffed up again now.
I read a chapter.

(((Harmony))) I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I hope it brought you comfort to reconnect and spend time with many of your friends.

I have officially finished decorating inside the house for Christmas. I did 90% of it yesterday but wanted to completely finish to put away. I took down the curtains in the 3 windows in the living room and replaced them with red & green curtains. Today I washed/dried/packed the curtains I took down and they are ready for the next time. All the Christmas decorations that weren't used have been placed in the giveaway bag that will be delivered to our favorite charity. Making the decision to let those things go be used in someone else home gave me a happy feeling instead of continuing to store them year after year without using them.

DS14 and his best friend are discussing putting up exterior lights later today. DS14 got gutter clips from his boss and intended on putting up lights on the roof of our home but I requested a different priority. I requested that we use the priority of putting lights on our front porch, shrubs along the front of the house, along the driveways, along the fence, wrapping the trees and last in priority is putting lights on the roof/gutters. I seriously doubt if they get lights put in all those places so I suspect them hanging lights from gutters with covers will take care of itself.

LadyM: to me, Christmas curtains is overkill but aside from the 'look' they give, they have the other BIG advantage of assuring you take down the other drapes and clean them once a year! (I see this as a big advantage, since I'm the person who hasn't done that with the two sets of curtains she has in the past 3, maybe 4, years.)

Read another chapter of the book to dgs after doing my advent puzzle with him watching. Dgd was too sick to even have snack and left the call crying to go lie on the couch. I commented that it was a good thing that her preschool had taped the holiday concert early just in case kids couldn't come on Tuesday. It was always going to be only a video, not live but the official taping of it is Tuesday morning. Then I asked if dgs comes straight home after his holiday concert (which is live.) DD suddenly clued in that if dgd was sick she couldn't attend dgs's concert. I was a step ahead of dd and have agreed to go (in a mask) and babysit dgd if necessary (it is Tuesday, she may bounce back before then.)

Dgs and I made up the grocery list for the party (he said I needed party hats, and plates and napkins!). Then I got off the Skype call and went through all the bins I have and added plates and forks to the shopping list. Dh and I went for a fast food dinner (but ate in the car because I still can't be unmasked in public) and then picked up all the groceries including the fruit and veggie trays. Woot, another big task completed.

My new chair arrived and is in a giant box in the middle of the foyer. It made a handy surface to unpack the bins onto! But at some point, soon, it needs to be opened and the contents listed to make sure all the parts are there and then the assembly video watched and finally assembled. It came just 2 days after ordering, I expected it on the 20th when I had time to deal with it!

Next up: repack all the bins and right up instructions for my helpers. I'm short staffed again, as two thought it was today and aren't available tomorrow and another one slipped and fell on packed snow yesterday and probably has a concussion. I saw her today in the elevator and I'd say she definitely has one, she is a bit confused which is abnormal for her. When she was leaving for her walk yesterday, I said she should have walking sticks but she didn't go back to get hers.

There's enough time and hands to get the work done in the 2 hours I have set aside for it but it will go better if I have clear instructions of what needs to be done since for a while I'll be over at the other building fetching chairs.

I just remember the bed needs to be finished being made and there's another load of laundry waiting for the dryer.

So that will fill in the time before bed quite nicely. And I'm going to be ON TIME tonight since tomorrow and the next day are very busy with early starts.

Dh had sausages for supper and I had breaded pork cutlets. We also had a box of macaroni and cheese to go with the meat. Then dh had a shower. Then he took his time getting dressed and watching tv. Then he decides that we should go get some fruit even though we bought oranges and pears last night. We got to the store at 5 to 8. As we walked in they announced that the store was closing in 5 minutes. Dh told me that this store always closes at 9. Maybe before Covid or on a week night... We rushed around and dh got some fruit. More of the same oranges and green grapes. I grabbed a bunch of pasta and sauce because it was on sale. Five minutes and $55 later, we were out of the store. Dh also put a package of sliced meat and 2 cans of fruit salad into the cart. Fastest I have been able to get dh to move in a long time.

Now we are watching the Bills play some football, so dh is happy.
