Monday, In the Mix

What's "in the mix" for your household today? There seldom seems to be just one thing going on, although that might be nice every once in a while! Usually a mix of plans, chores, PODA. Hoping all our mixes are successful.

Our mix is going to be the weather, with a mixture of snow, ice pellets, rain and wind expected to start this afternoon. I have an appointment this afternoon that I am expecting to be cancelled.

Just woke up from the weirdest dream. I had a house full of empty boxes, most of them either in the basement or filling a storage locker or a space at a flea market. Some of the large boxes were full of smaller boxes, but every single one was empty. I was moving them out of somewhere and there were a lot of old European men watching and one was coming over to look into the large boxes to see if I had anything he could possibly either buy or take or maybe he was just nosy. It was weird because I don't have a spot at a flea market, or a storage unit that I need to pay for or a basement. One of the boxes was in perfect shape but it was full of water with other boxes under it and in it. To be honest, I have very few cardboard boxes in my entire house. Ever since the flood that displaced my ex and I for 7 months from our apartment more than 10 years ago, I stored stuff in plastic totes. Now I just store paperwork in plastic totes that are made to hold paperwork because they have a slot down each side to put hanging file folders. I have 6 of them and they are all here on a shelf in the pantry behind my office chair and none of them are empty.

Harmony good for you for being able to tidy up the garage. I don't touch much out in our garage. Dh knows where all of his tools are and he also knows if they have been used. His current helper had the misfortune of putting a few things back in the wrong place, and dh let him know he wasn't happy. Now he puts things back where dh wants them to be. (Things like funnels for oil changes, etc.) The only things I need out there are the Christmas decorations, and they have a dedicated spot on the shelf above where all of the fishing rods are stored. Dh clears out the 4 garbage cans and takes them to the landfill as needed. Floor gets cleaned by his helper on a frequent basis. If dh uses any of his table saws, the sawdust gets swept up immediately because he also has welding equipment out there and one spark could get a fire started. Dh is kind of obsessive about safety in the garage, which is a very good thing.

Good morning! CUOPed a bit; folks here were busy yesterday! Not me — the busiest I got was doing a dry run with the livestream camera during Mass. The woman who coordinates this is tickled pink to have a husband/wife team, so she can count on both of us being there. Often she’ll have to find a last-minute fill-in for either the computer or the camera.

Sticking around for a critique, though, pushed the rest of my day later, such that by the time I got to my DM, she was asleep already. (I try to time my visits for just after lunch, so she is still awake.) So I cut my visit a bit short and was home in time for the weekly conversation with DH’s family.

We spent a good chunk of the day playing games, except when I was dozing in the comfy chair.

Today, it was bright and sunny early, so it was easy to get up. (I’ll be so sad when the time changes.) But it’s clouding over now, and we’re expecting a day of cold rain. Yuck! I’m glad I only have to go out to take DC to and from class. So not much mixing here, except that I’ll mix in a little payroll — at the very least, I can print out the project timeline for my desk. My friend, who is coordinating this project, is a bit more organized than the editor who was coordinating the last project, though it could be she has to be: the deadlines are a bit tighter.

Thankfully a quiet day here. I have much needed body work at 11:30 to get my back working for me instead of against me. It's very stiff from all the activity and steps last week. And I told dh I'd drop off at the cleaners today, and I'm considering going to the downtown library too.

I was up at first light to go outside and see if there was any damage from the storm. I was thankful to find that we just lost a few tree branches. I have a lifelong friend whose house took a direct hit by a tornado last night. She was thankful they were all okay. They have months/years of work ahead of them replacing the damage caused by the storm.

Conversation with DD11 on the way to school this morning...
DD11 - Are you sure today is my snack day? (as she was holding a big box of snacks)
Me - Absolutely sure. Here is the snack calendar your teacher sent out. (DD11 looking at photo of calendar on my phone)
DD11 - It is February 27th already?
Me - It is.
DD11 - February has gone by fast!
Me - It is the shortest month of the year.
DD11 - It is only short at the end of the month.
I don't know why her logic tickled my funny bone, but it had me giggling.

I'm running behind on my hourly tasks but I'm okay with that. I'm feeling a bit beat up from the stress of the storm. I will get back on track as time passes and my stress level reduces.

Homeschool is in progress.

Dishwasher is going. Some pots and pans and their lids have been washed. Pipes are gurgling, so I didn't do all of the pots and pans. I had a very lazy weekend. I don't think I washed any dishes all weekend. I did 1 load of laundry and that was for dh because he needed pants.

I also did all the floors this morning because I don't think I did any since Friday. Dh did the bathroom yesterday.

My kitchen looks so much better today than it did last night. I even dusted the living room and the china cabinet, which is in the kitchen.

Now I am heading out to knitting.

LadyM… what a challenging night you had! Have you had time to talk with DS14 on how he might try to calm himself in case he finds himself in a similar situation? I know what it’s like when my son would have panic attacks and I was miles and even oceans away from him. I had his counselor teach my son breathing techniques to help him when his attacks came on. Perhaps you ds14 counselor could help him with this as well. Just glad y’all are all safe. Mentioned you to Sweetie when I saw the news this morning and he just asked me if I knew how you were.

I am just finishing my breakfast. Been to class and most morning routines are done. Watered my plants and fed Fred. He really seems to like his new/old home. I have the sliding glass doors open and the outside fans going. I want to air out my home before it gets too hot today

I never did my vacuuming done yesterday because Sweetie wanted to watch a documentary on Dionne Warwick which I had seen and told him about. It’s on HBO and really good. Chose time with Sweetie over vacuuming as I felt it was more important.

Got my steps in and my water yesterday! Next…Going to color my and then vacuum. I also have a lot of desk things I need to attend to.

Cathy, such an odd dream! For some reason I don't remember much dreams these days. I don't suppose that's good for my sleep pattern.

No storms today. We need a break from all that.

I have the very BEST news to tell. DH finally got with the guy at the manufacturer who puts these pumps together (trying to get the plug in wires that burned on ours) and thank goodness the guy told DH these pumps are specific to this job they're doing, and he could not repair ours like he was thinking. And the one he had bought was just an ordinary sump pump and would not work for the job in our system. So, he found a proper new one at the plumbing supply who sells only to plumbing contractors, but they allow DH to purchase, and he is off now to pick it up. They are not far away.

So, today will probably be some work out there which I am dreading, but I will help and I am very very thankful that DH finally accepted the truth of this situation. My garage holds all kinds of stuff out there, the usual stuff for plants and grass, rakes and shovels, etc., extra cleaners, etc. for the house, but then I get the stuff which is the overflow from DH's shop which is right beside this garage with a doorway into it. He has one whole wall there as lumber racks, 1 whole wall of a long workbench, a set of shelves at the back with all paint supplies, cartons of nail guns, stacks of tarps, welding equipment etc. Hanging on the wall (high up) are 2 sizes of scaffolding. Every spare inch is being used. So he has moved stuff like chain saws, tile saws, into my garage. We can just fit 1 car in there if I'm careful. None of his stuff is organized very well, that is still for me to do, and mine is reorganized finally again.

I am working on this week's study which I have not even started yet. If I don't get to it early in the morning it doesn't happen that day because I am usually too tired later on to do it.
