LadyM, I wish I had half the energy your DSon has!

I was up before 7 and out the door at 8. Church service was wonderful. It really was a celebration.

Last night I made that huge salad which took a while, all the washing, spinning dry, and chopping. Everything I could think of to put in a salad is in there. And it was a huge hit up there today. Everybody had a nice bowl of it.

So our trip up there was almost all of it on either the interstate or a parkway around the city. One part of it had a big traffic jam because there was a horrific-looking accident that had happened. Pieces of that vehicle were on both sides of the highway. Very sad. We got past that and across the big bridge and found our way to their apartment.

Their apartment is pretty small, but bigger than their last one. I think they have a lot of big furniture for a place that size. We put DH's rollator in another room as there was no space for it, but he just sat and I brought him plates of food. She had the food all over the dining room table and we all just found somewhere to sit and eat. It was all pretty informal but nice. I am very happy we went. I was really tired driving back. DH was exhausted tonight and sore from sitting in the car. That old thing has no padding in the seats any more and a long trip can feel pretty tiring. On the way back I remembered I had a cushion in the back seat which DH got and used. We will have to remember this for the future.

So I hope you all had a nice holiday. I think I will sleep good tonight.

Harriet: I was so angry at the waste of money on the jacket, I transferred money into our chequing account and made an equal contribution to the church's refugee sponsorship fund. If we have that much money to spend on something useless, we should be spending it on something useful. I can't undo the jacket purchase but I can at least spend more money to make it the $3800 jacket that helped sponsor a refugee.

I didn't enjoy church all that much because I just wasn't feeling joyful. The service was also quite short because I was home at 11:10 and church normally ends at 11 and I stayed a long time after visiting with the musical director and connecting with a classmate from school and my grade 6 teacher (who I had thought was dead.) It took a moment to confirm her identity in my brain. When I was in grade 6 she was quite tall and I looked up when speaking to her. Now I'm looking down when speaking to her!

I made myself a special brunch of croissant french toast, berries, bacon and OJ. I forgot to make up the hash brown patties but it was enough to eat.

I napped for a bit in the afternoon and then we spent the rest of the afternoon updating the car. We are several updates behind now and this will likely be a week long process. The car was getting really confused and between the download and the installation I had a lot of trouble with it not working properly (including not bringing up the Pin-to-drive pad on the screen so I couldn't start the car for a few minutes.) Two tries and rebooting the car two times didn't solve the problem so I told dh I was driving us home and we'd see if it got less confused after driving for a bit. I parked above ground (in case the update 'bricked' the car and made it inoperable it can be towed easily if it is outside as opposed to in the underground parking garage.) The update worked and took 40 minutes, not the 25 it said, so I went for a walk and dh went upstairs to watch the baseball game while waiting.

As soon as it was finished, it told us there was another update for the games. So these I did using a hot spot with my phone data. Then we parked the car. No further updates yet but they have been rolled out to people in this area so I know they are coming soon. It was so much faster doing the update here using my phone, I will likely do the next one that way too. Most people have wifi that reaches their driveways or garages, but we can't have that so updates are a real time consumer (and come at least once a month although I'll have skipped over several incremental improvements while waiting to do the December update (there were 4 updates to fix problems that update created but I went straight to the patched version) and last month the updated full self driving beta version (which doesn't actually mean full self driving, it is just marketing name for features that many other cars have had for a decade or more and are not beta and actually work), was recalled by the NHTSA, and patches have come out to fix it so updates are flowing once more. It is that improved version I hope to get. I don't use the full self driving beta features because they are terrifying in the ability to mess up doing simple things, but my cruise control and lane assist and blind spot warnings all fall under that software so I need to have the latest versions.

We had leftover roast beef for dinner and it was just as good the second time around. And then I wasted the evening.

KinC can you find men's jackets that work for you guys wear great fun colors these days.
Glad you found a solution to help you feel better about it.

I work my old faithful jeans that fit well, our church is casual and my new long sleeved tee was great as we had rain in the forecast.
I work a Hawaiian shirt over it festive enough to go with the Ethiopian theme.
Their greens were a lot like southern collard greens I like them.
Glad the numbers were good today of those in attendance.

I had some veg. this afternoon, salad today would have been welcome.
Planned leftovers I'd froze ahead were a hit for dinner.

We did get rain but not till after three so the eggs hunts in the neighborhood were pretty much done by then.

We get a lot of those spam “warnings” too — McAfee and Amazon, which we do have, but also Netflix and others we DON’T have.

I napped a lot today too — no piano or confirmation class for dgs, and dgd went home with her mommy and daddy, so it was pretty quiet around here.
I did buy groceries and take care of getting trash to the road, and dh and I emptied the dishwasher. And I hand washed the dishes in the sink.
Got my planner set up for the week.
AND did a quick 10 minute walk away the pounds. Not much, but considering it was day ONE for the month, and my cough, I considered it a good start.

BUSY week ahead. SEVEN ballgames between the two dgrands. For four of them, dh and I will be on our own getting them to/from. Ds will be out of town all weekend and ddil will be working.
Tuesday is dmom’s endoscopy. Including drive time, this will be at least 4-5 hours. I hope I can wait in the car some, rather than sitting in uncomfortable waiting room chairs for what they say will be 2-3 hours.

Kathryn— I agree, that’s a big purchase to not get what you asked for! Good for you on the mission donation too. But I do think surely you can get an inside pocket sewn in someway.
Pockets in women’s clothing IS a big problem. Even when they are there, they are often too small. “Chick pockets” a student once complained about pockets in his own pants.
