Walking Wednesday

The tires have gone to the landfill. The donations have gone to the thrift store. Dh and I are going out for supper. Dh also has asked that we go for a new phone for him.

Back again, largely because I want to see my progress in living color (and sit on my butt while doing so). I need someone to pass me the BGS (butt glue solvent; we will definitely be having big green salads at dinner -- I overbought greens). Even if we finish up the open packages at dinner tonight, there are still too many sealed packages. I think I will take the salad kits along (there's at least one more there than I remember ordering!) since I eat those for lunch. Even if we don't have a kitchenette, we will at least have a small fridge. But I will have to see if dfriend can use the rest.

Anyhow, here's the latest:

Lunch dishes into dishwasher; run
Last load of laundry (should be dry; need to fold)
Dining table hot spot
Hire dfriend's DD to check on house and water plants (she'll come by tomorrow morning for instructions)
Get DC to bring luggage down from attic for me (I couldn't manage it on my own)
Make my bedroom presentable (DFDD will have to go through it to get to the tomato plants on the upstairs porch)
Go pick up DC's birthday presents
See if any parts of the yard will need mowing before we leave
Go to drugstore
Pack my suitcases (except for stuff I will need before we go)

Hmm... not bad. It is getting close to time that I can add taking my passport down to the temp agency to the l**t.

Mystery - WOW! YGG!

We are home from eating out, school shopping for the kids, getting dog food and DH prescription, and filling up SUV while near lower price gas.

We exited a mall and walked to our vehicle to find a big dog left inside the vehicle parked next to us. The temperature was over 100F and we couldn't just leave that dog without trying to help it. DS14 and I went inside the nearest store and had them page the owner of White Toyota Corolla to come to the parking lot. A young girl soon showed up and said she had a corolla. I asked if she left a big dog inside the car when it is 104F and she said, "I haven't been inside the store very long and I left the car windows cracked". She immediately went to her car with a huge attitude as if I was causing her an inconvenience. I hope she learned a lesson from this experience and never leaves the dog in a hot car again.

There's a program at temple tonight that I'd like to go to, but my tummy isn't great. (TMI) I had the runs earlier and my stomach is still gurgling about. And I have a pesky headache.

I've been upstairs at my desk.

Turns out the teen next door will be away next weekend, so no luck with her dog sitting. And her parents are leaving on Sunday so they're without a dog sitter, too.

Hi everyone! Last time I tried to post, it would not work, so I am trying from a different computer. Yesterday, I got in a lot of walking: office to class = half mile, office to bowling alley for a team building = 1 mi, plus my usual walking between car and office. The temperature was in the 3 digits. My knee is not at its best, but not to "need an advil" level.

Yesterday was supposed to be the day to euthanize foster cat White Sox after a crisis that started Wednesday and reached bottom Thursday. Since then, my first ToDo item after work has been "see if cat is still alive". She is getting better, and the cat coordinator and the vet want to try a week of treatment with sub-cutaneous fluids, appetite stimulant, and anti-inflammatory. She has both kidney disease and something (inflammation?) that is making it hard to absorb food. It's a matter of time, but we don't know how much time. I think she should be euthanized before she becomes miserable again. We have an animal org board meeting tonight and I have not done the minutes from the last meeting. I probably won't get them done in time.

I had to cancel my camping trip this weekend and next month because the tow vehicle is out of commission for towing. The "4WD SVC" light is on and there are intermittent messages of "4WD unavailable service required". Three mechanics give towing a NOPE. <skippable rant starts here> Very disappointing because my only "trip" so far was the 4 July fireworks home base and that was not a resounding success. N got a ride from me and her friend G from someone else. At the last minute, I was given butter to put in my cooler and I forgot it. It melted onto a flashlight. Apparently, not having butter on a baked potato is a disaster of nuclear proportions. First there was 20 minutes of "I wanted butter on my baked potato, but I'm not complaining" and "all over the flashlight but I won't complain" and similar over and over again. This is a pattern with N, where she makes a complaint then says "I'm not complaining". Then, she disappeared for about an hour to sulk. G asked where she was and I promised I would not leave her and if she did not come back when all the traffic cleared to leave, I would call the cops. I think I was supposed to panic, call frantically, and send out searchers, but I don't do that for adult temper tantrums. She came back about 10 minutes after that. One of N's friends asked me if I liked to leave early to avoid traffic or wait until it cleared. I chose the latter. I am not going to spend hours of first trip of the season camper prep and then leave before the fireworks start. N&G spend the next 20 minutes bugging me about when the fireworks would start and why hadn't they started already. (It was not yet dark). Ten minutes after the fireworks start, they began a conversation behind me extolling the virtues of leaving early, complaining that they were worried about their pets, and complaining that they had to get up early for work. I guess I was supposed to jump up and drive away. I came down with a case of selective deafness that would do credit to a Siberian husky. Why didn't they drive themselves? And why didn't they find out the leaving plans before getting there. I guess they found out about their pets and jobs during the fireworks. Must have been a huge shock. And that does not even count the start, where I was blamed for arriving on time, only to find all entrances blocked by police for a parade that none of us knew about. N's friends wanted me to tell them RIGHT NOW where I would be parking, without being able to see whether there was enough room to maneuver a towed camper. Didn't help that my entrance opened last. They chose a parking situation for me and were quite upset that I would not commit to it until I had seen it. I was to get there and get there NOW. Just go to another entrance like everyone else. (This would require a U-turn towing a travel trailer. It was a wide road, and I could do it with some difficulty, but not for them.) The place they picked was actually a good one, but part of me wanted to reject it because they had been so awful about it. These are the same people who wanted me to commit to their "special riverside camping spot" but could not tell me exactly where it was or if it would support more weight than a tent and got mad that I reserved an RV site. I was supposed to follow their car, towing the camper, until they found the spot. I followed their car without the camper, and THEY NEVER FOUND THE SPOT, just wandered around until they gave up. I was foolish enough to try again with them, they gave directions to a different "special spot", got there before me, went somewhere else, and that is where I did my first camper u-turn. I did not realize that N was inviting them.

That is quite a story, Elizabeth. Sounds like you should introduce N to your xBFF. They probably have a lot in common. (((Hugs)))

Oh Elizabeth! How awful that they acted like that, but good for you for not reacting to their b.s.!!

Dh and I didn't go for a phone for him. I told him I could do that alone tomorrow afternoon if he didn't want to go. Guess what option he chose? Better for all concerned.

The waitress we had couldn't have given us worse service no matter how hard she tried. After we got our salad and bread, it was quite a while before we got our supper. Dh was going to get dessert for us to share, but when she walked up dh demanded the bill.When I asked why he changed his mind he said he didn't want to wait 1/2 hour for it. It took her almost 20 minutes to bring it. I hope she wasn't surprised to not get a tip. I also had to ask for more water, which didn't show up for quite a while. When it did show up, it was warm with no ice in my glass or in the pitcher. We've never had bad food or bad service at this restaurant before. We've had this waitress before with amazing service.

I am up to 2.6 mi. doing laundry down stairs really helps my step count!
I have the last load in the dryer.
I have a few apples to pick for the deer but it is 94* outside nope not doing that now.
I did put some table clothes on the deck rail to dry quickly done!
Folded 2 loads of laundry.
Dishes are put away now.
I napped a bit.
Chatted with my dsis as to why I was not sleeping last nite that helped to have an ear for that.
Had an early dinner of stuff I had that was made ahead.

Saw a pbs show on meatballs and makes me thing of doing some in the crockpot on spaghetti squash.
Used my new pans for some cooking ahead for sausage they worked great.

Last load is dry and folded & put away as well as the others folding in the basement is nice.
Sheets still to do maybe tomorrow.
At 8 pm I am watering one more to set in the back yard after this one is done on the timer.

Ok, I'm on the same page as the rest of you now!

Off the ferry and on our way to charge.

The Tesla routing map gets a big fail. It refused to accept we were taking the ferry (despite only giving us a routing by ferry as we passed it on our way to NS when we were going by the land, meaning we couldn't tell our host our arrival time). As a result we wasted an hour in the ferry parking lot of instead of charging and thus saving 30 minutes before the hotel thus in bed earlier. This is the frustrating part of this damn car, it is stupid but thinks it knows everything and there is no way to teach it otherwise.

As it stands we know we can't believe what it is saying even for this charge because it only puts in just enough to get to the next stop and we need more than a 20 mile buffer between perfect and dead at the side of the road.

Nearly hit a deer earlier today and are now seeing them out along this highway because it is dusk. I'll post the video when I get home. Car was 'driving and didn't react, dh slowed us so the deer will live to be hit another day.

The ferry ride was smooth but fog the whole way. Then when we got off the ferry it was so foggy we couldn't see the path to get off the ferry terminal parking lot. The car still was telling us to turn around and drive back across the Bay of Fundy to Nova Scotia so was no help. There's a reason we leave the audio off on the GPS.

Kathryn, I'm glad you didn't hit the deer. Glad for the deer and you.

We worked the rest of the day out there. DH wasted hours trying to fix a bracket for the mirrors. He tried to weld shut a hole in the side where the old bracket pulled off the metal...but he was confused and was using the steel hose on the welder instead of the aluminum one. By the time he realized his mistake, he had a bigger hole in the metal. I suggested he just bolt an aluminum plate there and put the original bracket onto it. So that's what he did and it looks new and perfect now. Since it's silver, if I get some white metal paint I might spray it. Otherwise it looks great. I helped him adjust it all.

That took some time. I had to climb up and get his welder hoses straightened out and brought to the spot where he could reach the truck. Everything seemed to take an awful lot of time today. We had a lot of tools and screws and bolts dragged out and I had to put all of that back. Later we sorted all the stuff I couldn't figure out the other day. Then I worked on the leftover glue from the letters. Gasoline softens it up and it's easy to scrape off. The harder I rub after scraping, the better it looks. I did the hood and started down one side. If I can get some energy I will continue working on it tomorrow.

DH wants me to make signs to put in the window and he'll turn it around to face the road. We get quite a few cars here on Sundays and Wednesday nights. I have a dr. appointment in the morning and I promised I'd stop and get some poster board for the inside signs. We have a couple more signs to make to put out on the road. He is getting the paint and I'll do the lettering. I really hope this works.
