I looked ahead to the temperatures while I'm at the cottage later this week and they will be definitely be cool. I'm thrilled, it means I can have fires in the fireplace!

I'm up and at it really slowly today. I was up from 2 - 3:30 seeing off dh and staying up in case he needed back into the building for something forgotten since he isn't taking his keys with him. I found myself hungry so had some raisin toast and a glass of milk and then headed back to bed. Woke up again at 7:30 and since I went to bed at 9:30, that was a good amount of rest even with the disruption.

Yesterday I did nothing except walk to the pizza place for dinner with dh. When he suggested it in the morning, I said I thought not, but through the day I was sure my body was healed so agreed. We skipped our usual onion rings, though!

Today I have the errands from yesterday to do. And all that housework as well.

For now, I've spend some time with Claude (and AI bot) learning a way to slow down browser pages loading. It was a suggestion from "Offline" (a podcast about managing the negative effects of cell phones and limiting the addiction of them and how that interferes with real life.) The person interviewed this week was originally at Google and blew the whistle on the potential damage the metrics for software/apps would cause. They are designed to attract us and keep us there and bombard us with advertising (direct and indirect) as well as gather and sell our data. Yet you can't go offline because life revolves around the internet so much now (a problem today's elderly run up against when they can no longer phone for customer service, or information, or even do things like apply for pensions.)

Making the devices less addictive is important. I use a mid-range phone so that helps since it is already slower and less capable. I don't download social media apps, instead using the browser versions, which suck, so that helps reduce how often I'm online.

The piece of information I gleaned today is that for every 400ms delay in pages loading, Amazon calculates a 1% drop in money spent on the site. Apparently less than half a second is enough to have people move away from the speculative task at hand and thus spend less money overall.

Hmmm, says I. Can I find a browser extension that will slow certain pages loading? A google search was useless because it only returned ways of making web pages load more quickly. So I broke down and activate the AIbot option in my browser, choosing to make Claude my Bot of choice since it isn't owned by Google or Meta or Microsoft. We chatted for a bit and ClaudeBot taught me the correct wording in Chrome to find an extension after we cleared up the confusion that I didn't want to BLOCK sites from loading, just slow them down.

I've tried blocking apps before and they don't work for me. I just disable them after a while. On the other hand, if something takes to long to load, I'll just shut that tab and go do something else. ADD for the win! Using an extension that deliberately slows the loading of some web pages will help harness my ADD for good purposes.

I also found a bulk webpage loader which I'll activate to load all my FB contact's pages directly instead of scrolling through my feed and seeing 5:1 crap vs what my contacts have posted.

Unfortunately, I activated the two extensions in the wrong order and the page delay is slowing down the bulk loader! I'll fix that later.

I have to do so much in order to get my computer back working for me instead of barely working. I never properly set it up for me and I'm missing a ton of stuff off it, including all my photos prior to last year, and a large number of files. That's why I'm carrying two computers up to the cottage each time I go, all my business software is on my other computer. And I have to fix Quicken too since our investment stuff is now years out of date in in.

Dd let me know yesterday that she and the kids won't be coming up this week so that gives me 3 more days to work on these computer projects.

Harriet, thanks for the video recommendation to dh. I didn't cuop until this morning so missed getting it to him before he boarded the flight to Ethiopia. So I'll email it to him. Where he will be in Tanzania he'll have cheap cell phone data so he may be able to take advantage of your suggestion.

I should s2s now. I've had a light breakfast and will have my full breakfast when I'm dressed for the day.

Good Morning!

I am 47 hours after surgery and doing well. The right side of my face is still swollen but now I don't look like I had a stroke when i smile (both sides of my face smiles). The pain level has dropped enough that I haven't taken strong pain meds for the past 12 hours. I will continue to take the prescription Ibuprofen because the pharmacist told me that it has anti inflammatory properties that will help with the healing.
Boredom is my biggest "problem". Now that I have stopped the strong pain meds I will hopefully become more stable on my feet and be ready to launch from this nonactivity to normal activity tomorrow.

We have rain!! Not much but anything to clear the air is welcomed. We are in a burn ban because of the extreme drought. I don't think this little bit of rain will resolve that but it is a step in the right direction. Yesterday the temp was 102F and today it is predicted to be 83F.
Fall weather has arrived!

d lady I am thrilled you are doing better - praying that the swelling goes down fast.!

WE have rain too!!!! real rain not spotty!!! That's almost 30 days without rain. I know all the animals are feeling the relief!

dd's went to Octoberfest with dh's family even though it was in the 90's. today is supposed to be in the 70's. I love the break too d lady!

Mom stayed home all day and it makes mom confused to be alone even with a morning and evening visit for meds.

dd older will pick up mom soon - she can't stay home alone. She is used to dd younger being around all the time and it keeps he sharp.

time to start. 10:12 am.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Did someone say ... ..

Elizabeth?!? 8-)

What do you MEAN your dd is going to be graduating? Not old enough! Can't be. You're too young. My dd26 is married now. June wedding outdoors. Moved 45 mins to an hour away, so with their work schedules they don't get here often. Super glad to see you. The bridal party with Queen Ella sounds remarkable.

Dd26 and dsonil are coming at 2:00, bringing a late lunch from an old favorite Thai restaurant of dd's. We haven't seen them for weeks.

I hope I can avoid coughing the whole visit.

Church online was very pleasant. Prayer time full of requests and concerns.

Documented a couple of the rescued quilt tops that somehow have ended up with me over the years. These were from a church white-elephant sale, nearly tossed but someone optimistically said, "no, Harriet could DO something with them". No one knew who made them. For one I see some inspiration to redeem. For the other I think I can only rescue some of the vintage fabrics, since others were already too worn and thin before being sewn in. Wish it could talk and tell of hard times. I did photograph it.

Good morning, y'all! It's sunny here at the moment, but looks like we may have some clouds heading our way. There's a 30% chance of showers at some point today. Since it's my day to visit dMum, my time for housework and other chores is limited. Hopefully, today it warms up enough to do some gardening. It's 10C (50F) right now, and supposed to warm up to 22C (72F), so maybe I can get some weeding done before the snow flies! Think I'm joking? I've see it snow in every single month of the year (at one time or another) except July. We're well known in central Alberta for our May long weekend snowstorms.

For the moment, I need to get a few things done in the house:

- refill meds
- wash dishes
- do some cleaning in DH's computer room (I love the man dearly, but his mama never taught him to clean up after himself, and he's a living example of the difficulty of teaching old dogs new tricks  )
- morning dailies

Good to see you bw2. So glad you're getting some rain!!
Glad you're on the mend, LadyM!
Enjoy the fireplace time, Kathryn! I'd love to join you!
Sounds like you'll be busy on your "day of rest", Nancy Soaking your feet sounds wonderful!
I'd love to learn how to quilt, Harriet. Did you take lessons? Learn from a family member? Teach yourself?

That lot didn't take as long as I thought it might. Then again... I've only cleared DH's desk, not wiped it down, or done any other cleaning in the room. Some of that will happen in the next round. For now, I'll take a quick break, listen to my audio book, and play a couple of online games. Then it's back at it... there's never any shortage of things to get done around here.

- clean off dresser in DH's "man cave"
- dust living room furniture
- put away the clean dishes, and wash the spaghetti sauce pot
- spend 15 minutes going through stuff downstairs and making some decisions on what to donate ((a lot of dMum's stuff with memories atttached)
