Write it down Wednesday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Kidlin's law is a problem-solving technique that states,
If you write the problem down clearly, then the matter is half solved.

What knotty problems might we have today? Too much going on, or can't sort out priorities, like me? Or genealogy problems, that become clearer once I start writing because I see the holes more clearly? I keep discussing the writing process with my mentee - that she has to get on with writing because she's going to "see" more clearly what research and cultural background she sees to fill out her work.

Or maybe we just need to write the grocery list, and the problem of getting groceries (need to do so here!) is half-solved.

Writing it down is a reminder I sorely need.

My bullet journal sits, open, on a table near me but unupdated to either the google calendar or the stuff I'm holding in my head.

I keep 'meaning' to do that.

But first, I need to s2s.

Another a-river parcel arrived last evening and I made the mistake of trying on the pants before bed (it made sense at the time, I had to take off my jeans anyway!) They didn't fit so I moved back to my computer. That was the BIG mistake.

I found the coat I ordered is now on sale 20% off and in a better colour, so I ended up ordering that, pants in a hopefully better size, and then after sending off that order, remembered I needed to order a new case and screen protector for my phone (the waterproof case is starting to regularly ignore my touching of the screen.) So that sent me down another rabbit hole and I didn't get to bed until 11:30, having headed to the bedroom just before 10.

So I feel like I'm starting the day from behind.

Maybe if I poof! I'll start to catch up.

Picturing myself shooting out of a cannon.

poof!

Thanks for starting us off today Twins' Mom!

I don't write grocery lists any more. I go through the fridge and pantry and take pictures of what I need. After the stuff is in my grocery cart, I take a moment and delete the picture from my phone.

Nothing going on here today other than the Wednesday wet jobs. Wash the pots and pans and water the plants. I should also add "Watch some stupid tv show with dh." I spent most of the day on the computer yesterday watching youtube videos. He wasn't too happy at bed time last night.

My first thought this morning approaching PWYC was, "No, lucylee, that is not what I thought". But more about that later. Thinking of lucylee and her dmother today at the first couple of difficult appts of the week.

Then, I thoroughly enjoyed Twins' capture of a writing concept for us to consider, and I read a lot of what she linked, especially Dr. Carolina Estevez, PsyD thoughts.
“Breaking down big tasks into smaller, more manageable steps is one of the best ways to ease overwhelming feelings — especially when life already feels stressful,” Estevez says. “When a task is vague or too large, your brain perceives it as daunting. That is when procrastination kicks in, not because you are lazy but because your mind does not know where to start. The solution is to make the task more specific and actionable by breaking it into clear, bite-size steps.

Back in the early '80s, with the idea of cards (pieces of paper literally too small to avoid breaking tasks down) Pam, and Peggy said something so similar. This by Dr. Estevez is similarly reassuring - "not because you are lazy but because your mind does not know where to start."

It was such a breakthrough for me. Our phrase, "Next up" is such a good example. Overwhelmed? Well, what does the next card say. It may not even be revealed until you "reach" it, either thumbing through your cardfile or using your translation of the cardfile now that you are so familiar with it.

Good Morning!

Twins - Thank you for reminding us about Kidlin's law and sharing those articles.

Our nighttime hours were not boring. Thunder, lightning, heavy rains and hail happened. It was unusual tracking row of storms traveling in SE direction, when most of our storms travel NE. I do love the energy of storms and appreciate the moisture they provide. I did a walk around the yards this morning to check for damage. I am thankful that everything looks okay. My sleep hours were shortened last night to 5 hours. This is the second night this week to lose sleep, so I need to be mindful and seek opportunity to increase sleep hours.

You all have such good points about writing things down and making priorities. I need to revisit this later in the day. Overwhelmed is my middle name nowadays. I really should start the car and get going.

Today is one of those days. Off to settle dad and mom up for the day with breakfast and morning routine there. And pick someone up for bible study that will be on the way from there. Then figure out the afternoon and organize making supper for mom and dad too. My day off is not my own.

Thank you ladies for giving me a new place to journal and make my priorities so I can remember things and not get overwhelmed.

My dad is almost 2 weeks post op from bypass. Had staples out yesterday. He's sore and nervous which rubs off on mom who is in mid stage seems of dementia and can't explain what she feels. Anxiety. Then dad gets worried about her too and I get a call of do we need to go to hospital???? I know you will all understand. I'm a little at a loss what to do some days.

Anyway better get moving... hoping all goes well for all of you today.

good morning I love the discussion!

Mom is home again and good as new - she had a TIA - Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), often called a "mini-stroke," so it didn't hurt her brain. the meds helped her and as soon as she got the meds the clot or plaque slid by. Very lucky. My brother was there so I could go home - so helpful.
She is clearer than she has been in a long time.

She loved the hospital - she said it was a wonderful restaurant and hotel and dd laughed and told her it was the hospital. Mom burst out laughing - tears laughing bc she found it funny that she thought it was a hotel. She hasn't forgotten since.

hope to say hi soon. thinking of all of you - dh has the nurse soon.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I do write things down on my calendar which helps and I always have a grocery list going.

Sweetie slept in really late and I skipped my coffee with the girls to check on him. He’s up and showered and making his breakfast

In the meantime I’m working to clean my 8x10 rug. It’s not a very expensive one and if it doesn’t clean up I’ll pitch it and buy anew one. Meanwhile I have hope.

Suns out and will be planting more seeds later
