Morning. It's a busy one here. Dh had his truck scheduled for the shop today so I had to follow him and bring him to work. Home again. Now I have to leave in half hour for school. Need gas in my car and stop at the vet to update on stella and get more of the canned food. She seems to like it. I think she's better at least she's not running to the litter box all the time. Just she's not going hardly. She's not at all acting in pain. I don't know what to think.

I should text the special needs teacher at school and have her call me for update before his appointment Thursday. I should rebook my lab testing for like july or August. And then late shift work.

Hi, all. It is my one day off in my work-4-days-get-1-day-off-work-4-more-days spite, and I am not coping. I have to bring Germane to the vet this afternoon and I was counting on being able to walk her over because she has managed to poop in the back of the car in the one block to the vet, mash it into her paws and other parts by the time that we arrived. The car has no covers or her crate in the back because it has just come back from being fixed. Our forecast is now for rain. I might turn my attention to setting up the car, but Germane peed on my bed when I got up to go to the bathroom. She not only peed through all layers of the duvet and sheets, but the waterproof mattress cover had split and she peed right on the split. I have no idea how to save the mattress. I'll sponge it with the enzyme, but I'm sure that it went further in. I'm just so tired and discouraged, I want to lie down, but...

pets are even worse than kids, lauralind, because they are far better at hiding their issues!
helia, it's so good to just wing it with visit to your mom now, isn't it?
Dogged! Sending many, many hugs! At least your car is fixed? Re the mattress, does it have a removable cover? The ones used in Europe do and it's waterproof enough that no pee ever got through it to the foam itself (our previous cat was vicious... and our current one is getting old). But it's a bit of pain to remove it and then to put it back.

You are right, trissie. It will be a great help to have the car back, even if I don't want to use it with Germane today. I have sponged down the mattress with the enzyme cleaner that you use for skunk smell and urine and set up the box fan on the bed. As a bonus, the box fan has a furnace filter taped to the back to act as an air purifier, so maybe reduced allergy symptoms after this?
I do realize that my little setbacks are not great in the great scheme of things. It's just that I'm tired. I don't know how much longer I can keep doing my job, and the job market is bad and poised to become worse, so not a great time to be looking. The big blessing is that I will start getting my Old Age Security later this month, so I will be guaranteed at least some money coming in, and if I every make it through the barriers to applying for my pension that will bring in a little more, and then I can look more at part time or seasonal work so that I can get more time off. That would help so much.

Dogged, I once sat in the parking lot of a supermarket crying because they were out of green apples!
And of course it was not about the apples at all. The apples were just the last straw of me having zero control over my life because of my kids' issues that were dictating everything at that time and feeling so overwhelmed and inconsequential that not being able to even get the apples I like was simply too much. Even know, I barely hang in there and it always shows in my reactions to the smallest issues.
So, I totally get how something like a peed-on mattress may prove to be too much when there's big worries that you can do absolutely nothing about, which eat away your ability to handle additional stress!

trissie, I can totally relate to crying over the apples! I have always wondered how the mothers that I worked with coped, as I always felt that work or school filled my plate completely, and I was aware that they had a whole other shift waiting for them at home. You always seem amazing to me, doing such a responsible job and still doing home cooking and home baking for your dchildren along with everything else that you do. But you really have clarified the issue. It's not the pee on the bed or even the prospect of being rained while I walk Germane to the vet, but that I'm on my last nerve from my job and don't have the emotional resources for normal life set backs.
With some coffee and a breakfast sandwich in me, things don't seem quite so dire.

Do you get to go to the birthday party, L.Ann? They can be fun!

L.Ann, I can't believe Little Bit will soon be four!

Helian, DH has worked on about half of his wardrobe, and then decided he'd had enough. Still he's decluttered a big bin bag full, so I think it was time well spent.

Trissie, I often misjudge the weather too -it's often the cold wind that catches me out. It's the May Day Bank holiday today, which is always the first Monday of the month. The May Day bank holiday in the UK has a multi-layered history, blending ancient pagan celebrations like the Celtic Beltane, seasonal festivities, and the rise of international workers' rights movements. (((Dogged))), I'm so sorry about all the stresses you're having to deal with ATM. Being trapped in a job and seeing no way out is just awful -BTDT. Is there any way you could go freelance and work for yourself? I hope Germane's vet visit is successful and uneventful.

I've been productive this afternoon, and upstairs is now clean and tidy. However, my productivity has now evidently ended, as I'm now sitting on the sofa with Matilda on my lap.
