Thriving Thursday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Are you thriving or surviving, or somewhere in between? What does thriving look like?
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.

LadyM is having difficulties getting in (she posted on our FBook page). I had a bit of a struggle as well.

I was up early. Compost, garbage and recycling is all out at the road.

Dh was up early. He had a shower and went back to bed and I can hear him snoring from the other side of the house. It's a small house.

It's overcast right night and not as warm as yesterday. No idea what is for supper tonight.

Today the high will be nearly 80 with a chance of rain, and later T storms. It looks dreary out this a.m. but I was up before the alarm at least. DH is at his workout, will come through soon for a shower, and dcleaning lady will be here within the hour too.

I don't know why I feel dissatisfaction with my life right now. I want to write more, research more, and there's so many other things in the way. What could I give up? I have two treasurer positions, one mentee that I mentor (every two weeks for 40 min). I try for two workouts a week and at least a reasonable level of steps/activity. And I have my house cleaned every two weeks, and I try for a massage/body work every two weeks. That doesn't seem unreasonable.

DD will be here tonight - around 10 p.m. we'll get her at the airport. We brought her in for mother's day weekend and a pep talk. So tomorrow, and weekend plans are loose. I figured out that the grad party that I thought was Sat p.m. is the following Saturday. We could have gone to dfriends for dinner on Sat. night, and now dh doesn't even remember me asking him about it and telling me “Whatever you want to do," lol. So my name is mud. I told him that I feel like I can't do anything right these days anyway. And I ds mentioned going to brunch on Saturday instead and we got a reservation there for 11:30 a.m. and then dh complained that Saturday wasn't mother's day. I explained it would be less crowded and it's the same weekend, and I'm the mother and it's okay if celebrate on Saturday instead. He doesn't have Torah study this Saturday.

I've straightened up the house for the cleaning lady and she's doing her magic.

I had trouble earlier with errors but it seems resolved now.

Good morning!

I tried dozens of times to post here and it was hit & miss. Each time i posted in other forums required about a half dozen refreshes. All seems well now though because I was able to come directly here with no problem this time.

DD13 is eager about participating in field day at school. ****SHOCK*** They are doing a color run which appeals to her love of colors and creativeness to run through colors tossed into the air. We went to the store late last night when she announced a white shirt is recommended for the color run. Thankfully it was a simple solution (dollar store carries white tshirts).

I spent waaaayyy too much time yesterday researching various types/models/accessories of vehicles. I might have found a vehicle that meets all my needs/wants. It is located at nearest dealership so doing a test drive will be easy. I have some other details to research and decide in what to do with current 10 year old vehicle, finances, etc. that I will be working through in near future.

much room.

And also on my list was a medium / small stainless steel pan found one 50%
from under $5.00 happy got out of there for ten ish dollars.

Walked a short walk with ddoggo talking to the mowing guy on the empty house behind me

I had to take a rare authoritarian dictator role. I told DS16 ABSOLUTELY NO. His boss is on vacation and the boss son asked DS16 to drive the semi-truck and go pick up a load of cattle from the stock yard.....by himself. When DS16 called to tell me what he was preparing to do, I instantly went into ARE YOU NUTS mode! I called DBro to ask his advice/opinion just in case I didn't understand how complicated and difficult this is to do. DBro instant response to my question was "Not only NO. But H*ll NO don't let him do that!"
Ahhhhhh....***deep breathe*** to get recentered. It is just another sunny day of raising a teenager that embraces new adventures & challenges but doesn't see potential disasters.

DH is not having a good mental day. I need to keep up with what he is doing and monitor it closely.

Hugs, LadyM on your authoritarian attitude with teens, and on monitoring dh as well. Glad you got here, too. You remarked several weeks (months?) ago that my mood improves after a workout - I didn't realize it then but it's very true. (Maybe I'm just relieved to have it over with? lol)

Nancy, I still need to get a couple of tomato plants, and I thought I'd also get some geraniums for the back yard. Have to go to Lowes first for more soil for the raised beds. Maybe dd will want to do that with me?

Speaking of dd, she's supposed to be here just before ten. We have a Severe T storm watch until 11 tonight so I'm hoping the weather cooperates. (She just reported that there's a slight delay already.)

After workout I ran and errand, went to the bank for cemetery, and went through the car wash. The wash didn't get all the bugs off the window but most. Tired of looking through dead bug smears.

LadyM, what kind of vehicle are you looking at?

Cathy, what did you decide on for supper? We're having fish, roasted in oven with asparagus. Maybe a sweet potato too?

Today was a good day. Dh got in to get the bloodwork done. He thanked me for going with him. I guess I'll be going with him from now on. Oh well, I guess it is what it is, right??

I heard from a lawyer's office today, so I will be going there tomorrow.

I got in touch with another lawyer's office today and I have files to be picked up at his house next week. I was waiting to make sure my paperwork was returned from our accountant first. Timing is everything.

I had a nice hot shower earlier.

The sun is out. Yay!!

I don't know that we would say I"ve been "thriving" today, but I did get a haircut and talked to my aunt for a long while. (She called during the haircut and I called her back. She was thinking that my dmom might be related to the man who passed away. I told her no, no relation, but this man's ex-stepfather was one of dddad's closest friends. And his mother is related to my great-aunt, daunt's aunt. (Does that make sense?) LOL. Of course we covered lots of other topics in the conversation. ;) Daunt says she has put things away in "safe places" and then couldn't find them. She said sometimes a month or so later, it would occur to her -- "OH... THAT'S where I put it." I certainly hope that happens to me. I am just at my wit's end re: these folders of poetry!

I'm still planning to go to the funeral tomorrow -- just a lot of friend connections, and since dh's passing, I realize how much it means to know all these people care. I was really overwhelmed and amazed at the outpouring of support I felt at dh's funeral.

HOWEVER -- I am NOT going to to be able to arrive early, as would be the best plan. I am going to go to the festival where DS is playing music at 10:00 a.m. This is about 15 minutes from my house. DS plays from 10-11. Visitation begins at 11:00 and will most likely be extremely crowded. It is 11 minutes (according to MapQuest) back to the church from the festival. I'll just dress for the funeral and leave quickly.
DGD especially wants me to go to the festival because her class is going, and if a parent or guardian can sign her out, she can go home early. I told ddil to tell her I am NOT going to be lingering around, must leave immediately when DS is finished. But I will leave her with DS and if she can talk him into hanging around, that will be fine. In any case, we'll be going back Saturday.

I have not talked to my dmom today. I hope she's doing okay.

Cathy, my goodness... I can see why this is your EX-accountant. I can't think of the word I want to use, but he has really put you through it trying to get your papers back. Good for you in getting that settled, and for going with dh for blood work.

Good for you, LadyM, with laying down the law for DS. He does seem like a grown man sometimes, but he's not quite there yet, right? (I just realized that it wasn't the boss who made this request, but the boss' son. How old is this son. It's flattering that they have such confidence in your DS, but I don't blame you for putting down your foot on this issue.)

This is odd that LadyM had trouble with the board today -- it was the first day in a while that I was able to get to the site on my phone! How strange. But I'm still here on my ChromeBook.

I hope your dd arrived safely and the weather has cooperated, Twins. And I hope y'all have a great weekend. We had a severe thunderstorm watch all evening, but I don't think it ever got too bad around here. I slept all afternoon.

Hooray on the roundabout, Nancy! I hate those things. There's one on the route to College Town now and I hate it!!!

Well, it's late, but I think I will shower tonight and re-wash my hair to get the loose hairs out. I need to do a ponytail or hair clip tomorrow anyway, since I'll be outside in the morning and rain is predicted. i'll need to get up about 8:00 a.m. and that is EARLY for me!!!
Tomorrow is another day.
