Re: Fruit Salad Friday
Fruit salad is a dish consisting of various kinds of fruit, sometimes served in a liquid, either their juices or a syrup. In different forms, fruit salad can be served as an appetizer or a side as a salad, or even as a dessert.
There are several home recipes for fruit salads that contains different kinds of fruit. Common ingredients used in fruit salads include apple, tangerines, strawberries, pineapple, honeydew, watermelon, grapes, and kiwifruit. Traditional recipes in the UK often included banana, but this has to be added at the last minute, or else it turns black and looks distinctly unappetising! If served as a dessert, fruit salad
is often accompanied by cream.

Re: Fruit Salad Friday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Friday!
Yay for new carpet and new lights, L.Ann! Which flowers did you choose for your annual bed?
Today, DH is WFH and I have a free day, which I'm hoping to spend mostly in my garden. I do have a few admin tasks to do, but they're the kind that can be done while sitting in the garden.

Re: Fruit Salad Friday
Oh, I could definitely do a fruit salad, kittykatt!
Up and attem. The girls are off school, DS is not, so he's already on his way to the city. DSIL called last night to inform us DFIL was in hospital - his platelets are so low that he started bleeding badly (he has chronic leukemia). It's not good
DH may be driving over this afternoon to visit. We're kinda in helia's situation from a couple years ago - DMIL has Alzheimmer disease and he's her primary caregiver. DSIL is managing things locally (she lives close, we don't), but... yeah
Working from home today, and we're going to the cottage tomorrow morning. So much to do, I better get started on it!

Re: Fruit Salad Friday
Good morning, Trissie! So sorry to hear about DDFIL - that's a very difficult situation.
DH's first words to me this morning were not "good morning" (or similar) but rather, "I can't find..."
Told him it would be nice to have a proper greeting to start the day, rather than a "shopping list"! I currently have all three cats in the bed. They are effusive in their greetings, although a lot of that is to do with their morning snack which they know will be forthcoming!

List the points I wish to raise re their findings so far and interim recommendations - topics I want to comment on -
1) The proposed increased use and expansion
of the role of vet nurses -yes their role can and should be increased, and nurses encouraged to specialise and take more courses / qualifications in their areas of interest, but they should not be used as a form of cheap labour.
2)proposed cap on the price of medicines - should be used with caution - it's where many vet practices make much of their profit. If they can't make profit from here, then they'll have to increase the cost of treatment, consults etc. Yes, they should be able to charge a *reasonable* amount to write a prescription so the drugs can be obtained (more cheaply) elsewhere by the customer ( not sure what a "reasonable " amount would be, as Petplan picks up the tab for Fred's meds)
3)if the prices of various treatments has to be listed online, then what the price for treatment /procedure actually includes should also be listed eg follow -up consults after a procedure, so customers know they are comparing like with like (give the example of Matilda's teeth where her follow up and pain relief were included, whereas the vet a friend of DF PM goes to doesn't include either).
4)Vets should have freedom to prescribe and treat as they think is best for the animal, and not unnecessarily constrained or pressurised by "company policy" to offer a set treatment / drugs that may not always be in the animal's best interest. Also, emphasise there needs to be a drive to encourage more people to take out insurance and understand the different types and what they cover. (I think we have a big cultural problem here because we have the NHS for people, which, despite its problems, means that medical treatment is free at the point of use. So we are shielded from the "real" cost of things, so it can understandably come as a big shock).
5)Since the CMA announced its investigation last year, there has been a big increase in abusive behaviour from customers towards staff, leading to a much higher level of anxiety amongst staff, many of whom are young women.(I often witness this when I'm taking an animal for an appointment, picking up meds etc) This needs to be stamped out and made completely unacceptable, as everyone should feel safe when they're at work.

Re: Fruit Salad Friday
I'm so glad it's Friday. It's been an exhausting week. My mom returned to the nursing home last night. She's on antibiotics and I'm not sure what other meds they added, iron, I think. I need to keep encouraging her to drink - and the staff there hopefully will be doing the same since they see her a lot more than I do.
Oh wow, that's rough, trissie. Praying for strength for your DSIL and that the Drs. will be able to help DFIL.
It looks like a desk day for you, Kitty. You have a lot of well-articulated points to bring up with CMA.
I will stop by and see Mom today, hopefully before payroll. I also have a phone call at 9 re: Mom being a new patient at the Univ hospital's ger. dept. Not sure that's very practical as transporting her anywhere is quite an event that will require pre-planning; reserving facility transportation requires 1 week advance notice. If she is sick, faster and easier access to a Dr., like one that comes onsite, would be better -- I would think. There is always a RN on site. I'll ask about a neurologist. Thanks for the reminder, Gma.
Today, I have a phone call with the hospital at 9 and another phone call with my director at noon. I need to get ready for class this afternoon, which means putting together the midterm test. I'll also go visit Mom to check on her, hopefully this morning.
It is sunny! 41*F now with a high of 65*F.

Re: Fruit Salad Friday
Good morning, sweet friends.
Adding a sun emoji even though it’s supposed to rain
here all day. It’s looking cloudy atm.
Thanks for the fruit salad start, kittykatt, I would enjoy one for breakfast if I had the ingredients. Might be a cottage cheese and pineapple breakfast for me. Mmm. I pretend my cats’ morning affections are because they’re so fond of me but I know it’s because their food bowl is empty and they’re probably fussing at me to do my job lol.
I’m so sorry about your dfil, Trissie.
Helia, hope the services offered onsite are more than enough to meet your mother’s needs.
We were supposed to get out today but it’s supposed to rain all day so looks like we’re probably staying in. Dh isn’t up yet so I’m having a slow start.

Are those antibiotics for the UTI, helia?
of course the cats love you, Bama, how could they not? I mean, it's not like the paw-operated can opener has been invented yet!
kittykatt, what's your DH's split of office/homeoffice days now?
L.Ann, how do you like the new carpets?
I have a good one for you: The new Pope has a degree in mathematics from the Villanova University. So he not only understands the sin, but also the cos!
