The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. Within a few months of their first gig, the line-up settled as Sting (lead vocals, bass guitar, primary songwriter), Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion), and this remained unchanged for the rest of the band's history. The Police became globally popular from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Emerging in the British new wave scene, they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz.

Their 1978 debut album, Outlandos d'Amour, reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and contains the singles "Roxanne" and "Can't Stand Losing You". Their second album, Reggatta de Blanc (1979), became the first of four consecutive No. 1 studio albums in the UK and Australia; its first two singles, "Message in a Bottle" and "Walking on the Moon", became their first UK number-one singles. Their next two albums, Zenyatta Mondatta (1980) and Ghost in the Machine (1981), led to further critical and commercial success, with two songs, "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", becoming UK number-one singles and Top 5 hits in other countries. The former album was their breakthrough into the US, reaching number five on the US Billboard 200.

Their final studio album, Synchronicity (1983), was No. 1 in the UK, Canada, Australia, Italy and the US, selling over 8 million copies in the US. Its lead single, "Every Breath You Take", became their fifth UK number one, and only US number one. During this time, the band were considered one of the leaders of the Second British Invasion of the US: in 1983 Rolling Stone labelled them "the first British New Wave act to break through in America on a grand scale, and possibly the biggest band in the world".[
However, at the height of their fame the Police disbanded in 1984, periodically reuniting for one-off performances before fully reuniting in early 2007 for a world tour ending in August 2008. They were the world's highest-earning musicians in 2008 due to their reunion tour, which was the highest-grossing tour of 2007.

The Police have sold over 75 million records, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. The band won a number of music awards, including six Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards (winning Best British Group once), and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2003, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Four of their five studio albums appeared on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". The band were included among both Rolling Stone's and VH1's lists of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

Kittykat are you up really early? Its 9 pm here. I hope you have a good day. Mine was ok. I didn't get here . Early shift and then I went to the grocery store for a few things. Was looking for the dog bones Casper likes and couldn't find any. Found supper and milk. A wak while ds cooked and then nothing.

Now I'm hoping seeing me wrapped up in my blanket will be encouraged ds to bring in a bit of firewood tet. It's cool and damp and there is a big power outage scheduled to start in half hour for overnight.

Then I have to convince myself that I want to plant the garden and greenhouse at dad's tomorrow. Busy week and I am trying to find the energy.

Good night, Laura! It's 5.30 am here, and I'm awake, but not up. I've been woken early by snoring in duplicate, heavy feet running up and down the stairs and DH crashing about downstairs  I have no idea what I'll find in the kitchen when I do get up. I could possibly have slept through most of it, but Matilda was woken up, and, of course, she immediately wants to party and also wants her breakfast! I hope you manage to warm up -a fire sounds very cosy! :D

As I'm.awake, I'm going to try and can use the time productively and plan today. I really need to do some housework and prep lunch for tomorrow as well as get things ready for our neighbourhood party. If I can launch the men early (can I persuade them they would really *love* to have breakfast at the Imperial? :D ) then I should have the whole morning to get things done.

Also OMM for this weekend, I need to get an order together for Boots the Chemist, also cat food, and I need to make a list of Fred's meds before his blood test in Tuesday. (I also need to remember to order Jude's flea control on on Tuesday)

Good morning, kittykatt.Thank you for starting us off.

trissie, thank you for the introduction to some Czech music. I enjoyed it very much. The New Years Eve show was so much like New Years Eve shows here. I was surprised when I was recognizing songs. I loved the Karel Kryl song. It made me think of Leonard Cohen and The Partisan. And I completely understand how you feel about Jaromir Nohavica. It's a lot easier to navigate when the crummy person who wrote the great music has been dead for 100 years, because then we're not sending them royalties for supporting their talent.

It's a wrapped up in a blanket kind of day, Lauralind. I was so cold that I did my phone visit with my db under an electric blanket. The heat has been turned off because it's normally warmer at this time of year.

I cooked a pan of shawarma chicken and I have the small slow cooker filled with potatoes and a bit of onion and the savoy cabbage, so I'm set for tomorrow.

Another payroll day for me. Have a good day, all.

Ooh, you were up really early, kittykatt! Will you manage a nap, or will it be a very early bedtime for you? Enjoy the party today!
gma, happy birthday to your mom!
Dogged, I am glad you enjoyed the music from yesterday! I really like Leonard Cohen too - I am a lyrics person (as in, I'd rather listen to a very simple music with great lyrics than great music with stupid lyrics) so my rather very ecclectic automatic playlist on youtube will always include some Cohen's music :-)

BTW, I was playing the song kittykatt linked in another tab and the automatic follow up song is Police's Every Breath You Take which is really disturbing when you listen to the lyrics - kinda like "Is that 911? I think I have a possesive stalker following me everywhere, and I am really worried!" :-)

I survived yesterday's shopping with the kids! We ate at the mall, so that was one less thing to worry about, and when we got home, I had to drive Terri to a friend for a sleepover. I did convince myself to do a :15 on pick up / routines after, and even ran the roomba, but that was it.
So far today, I've had a slow morning, reading in bed and breakfast and coffee by the computer, but it's time to get going! There's rain in the forecast for the afternoon, so I better mow the lawn now. This year's May is cold and rainy :-( I'll deal with laundry in the afternoon, I need to flip DBD's clothes one size up, there's a huge bag of stuff the girls have removed from their closets as "too small" or "no longer like", that need to be rewashed, sorted into "throw out", "keep for DBD", and "good looking duplicates to donate". Some freezer cooking would also be good and would help with the week to come, and I am not happy with the state of the small storage under the stairs downstairs. Can I squeeze all of that into one weekend? Stay tuned for more progress!

Good morning/good evening Dogged, Gma and Trissie!

Dogged, I hope you have a successful and non stressful day at work.

Gma, I'm glad your DMum's birthday party went well.

Trissie, a big WTG for successful shopping with kids! I am planning an early night tonight, I can always use my earplugs if BIL insists on playing YouTube videos fortissimo . I agree with you about Every Breath You Take -it's definitely creepy and stalker country. :( (Back when the song first came out, I was still a teenager with a "thing" for Sting, yes I had posters all over my bedroom wall, including one I remember well, of him lying by a swimming pool, which was the "centrefold" of my mother's extremely strait-laced and traditional woman's magazine. I have no idea how it got in there, and I can still remember carefully bending the staples back to extract it without damaging it, and then putting it in pride of place on my bedroom wall, and I thought it would be rather nice to have him watching over me.) Of course, then, I didn't realise what the song was really about. With age, comes wisdom! :D

The men have been launched, the bathroom is S/S and I've tidied up and run the hoover and a quick duster downstairs. I've also had a long WhatsApp conversation with DF CW as to whether we should go ahead with the party or postpone until next Saturday. It's grey and overcast, but according to the BBC we're guaranteed dry, although cloudy weather this afternoon and until about 8pm. Next Saturday looks better until you look at the details, when showers are forecast mid afternoon. And of course, being a week away, the forecast is probably going to change anyway.

So, we've decided to go ahead. We've still no idea how many people are coming. CW is cutting her grass, and I need to cube the cheese and assemble the cheese and pineapple, and then take everything over and help DF CW with the rest of the preparations. It would also probably be a good idea to take some meat out of the freezer, so I have a basis for lunch tomorrow.
