Re: Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich Saturday
The salmon and cucumber sandwich is a variation of the classic cucumber sandwich, elevated by the addition of sliced smoked salmon to the thinly sliced cucumbers, and often enjoyed in the context of afternoon tea or social events. It's a popular combination, particularly associated with afternoon tea and light meals, and is a quintessential English classic that takes you right back to genteel afternoon teas on Victorian croquet lawns. The cucumber provides a refreshing crispness and subtle flavour that complements the richness of the salmon.
The core ingredients are sliced smoked salmon, thinly sliced cucumber, and bread (often white bread or a bread with a delicate crust). Butter or cream cheese is often used as a spread to enhance the flavor and texture.
The bread is typically buttered or spread with cream cheese. The cucumber is thinly sliced (sometimes peeled) and arranged on the bread. The smoked salmon is then placed on top of the cucumber.
Some variations include adding a squeeze of lemon juice, a sprinkle of black pepper, or other herbs like dill.

Re: Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich Saturday
Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!
Laura, that was a very full day! Sorry about the kitty accident in the bed giving you more work.
How nice that DGD can spend some time with her auntie, L.Ann. I'm sure she'll have a great time, and, as you say, it also gives you time to get some routine things done.
Gma, you've worked hard too - either white or cream sounds pretty fit the window. I think a community choir sounds fun -we have one that meets every week at our community shop on the estate.
Dogged, you've also had a busy day. I think you're probably wise to leave the intricacies of persuading all the equipment to fit back I to its box until the morning. I can relate - packing things up for my eBay lots can resemble a game of Tetris!
It rained again overnight, which is good for the garden, and it's still looking damp out there. I think it's supposed to clear up, so I'll try and feed my pots today. DH is clear in his intention to work on the spare room / office today. He's made some very positive comments about how well everything has gone in the bedroom.
So, I shall need to be on hand today, to photograph the desk when it's empty (but before it's dismantled,) ready to post in in the free section of Nextdoor. I just want it gone, and I would rather someone else found a use for it rather than take it to the tip. Which has made me think - I wonder if DF CW would like it for G nearly 13yo? I'll send her a WhatsApp with the picture before we do anything else with it
I also want to deep clean the space where the old desk was before the new desk is brought up to the house. I also think I'm probably. going to need to help DH declutter and find homes for things that won't fit in the cupboard.
And we will need help moving the new-to-him desk out of the garage and up to the house! Both the table and cupboard are very "solid" heavy pieces of furniture, which are well beyond my abilities to lift /carry. 20 years ago I might have tried to help, but not now. I value my back! ( Which would not be happy with lifting and carrying such heavy weights despite the exercises I do). I have suggested a few names (strong men neighbours) who could be asked to help with this!
Edited to add: DH has just announced he thinks there will be a lot of stuff to get rid of when he's been through all the crates. (Sigh!) Anything that's broken /of no use can go I t the recycling. He has also mentioned a working monitor, so I'll see if DF CW would like that as well. Anything that I think someone else could find useful I'll post in the free section of Nextdoor (I just want it gone, and not cluttering up the house and garage! And it's been a lot of time and effort getting the surplus dolls house furniture ready for eBay, so I do t want to go through that with larger, heavier items that probably aren't worth much anyway).
Second edit: I have just been asked for a spare box file!
I need to get moving!!!

Re: Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich Saturday
Deep cleaning is always so satisfying. I hope he can find help for desk, and the old one can find a good home.
I didn't get to mother. DfBS called. Shaking chill and requiring more oxygen than normal for her. I hurried to her house, decided immediately to call ambulance. She left, I stayed and fed her cats before heading to the emergency room. Then she needed her personal respiratory equipment, so I returned, got it, and went back. Hospital is 15 miles, one way.
I sure am glad for the nap!
Now I better get some sleep.

Gma, I'm so sorry your DF has been taken a turn for the worse. How fortunate she is to have you with all your medical knowledge and experience! I do hope you can get a good night's sleep now.

Extras:

Can I list and pack another box on eBay? ( This might be too ambitious for today!)

Thanks for starting us off, Kittykatt. I can relate to the game of tetris when packing boxes, lol.
What a night for you, Gma. I hope that you get a good sleep now.
I am up temporarily to clean up after Germane and give her a treat. See you later.

Re: Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich Saturday
Sleep well, Dogged!
We are taking a lunch break. DH is making his yummy bacon sandwiches.
The old desk has been emptied, photographed, measured and is now in pieces in the garage. The content of the old desk are mainly on the spare room bed. I have deep cleaned the area where the old desk was, and scrubbed numerous marks off the wall (thank you, magic eraser!) I've also tidied up downstairs, given the sitting room a quick dust and hoover and taken Freddie for a long walk of his choosing.
However, I have just discovered DH has picked a WHITE table top for his new desk.
WHAT WAS HE THINKING? I'm going to be constantly scrubbing dirty marks of it instead of giving it a quick dust and polish as I e done up until now. The cupboard he has picked matches the rest of the existing furniture pretty well, so I'd assumed he'd done the same with the desk.
DF CW doesn't want either the old desk or the monitor, so I'll list them in the free section of Nextdoor this afternoon. Other tasks, I need to bake Banana bread as I have a couple of over ripe bananas I don't want to waste. I also need to prep lunch for tomorrow , and I want to spend some time in my garden. Maybe leave the garden until later, and do the oven related jobs before the kitchen gets too hot?

Re: Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich Saturday
Morning all. I have never had salmon mixed with cucumber though it sounds a bit like a delicacy. Oh wait maybe in those little pinwheel sandwiches. A wrap with filling rolled and cut in slices as an appie.
Kittykat your dh sounds a bit like mine . Takes a bit to get started but once he's decluttering you have to keep up with him till it's finished. Maybe that white surface will be easy wipe? It will look nice when it's clean and not hide mess that disapears into the dark colors. I'm guilty of dark tops being really messy sometimes.
Oh no gma I hope your friend turns around for better again.
Doggedly how are you enjoying your non working days?
What is it that I would like to do today? Atm at 6 am it's damp and rainy again. Inside day. The bed is clean. Except if I would not have been planning on the bed switch and done it on a day off might have washed the mattress cover too. Still need to wash the top blanket but that's easy.
I need to do whb. Should do some more thorough living room cleaning and maybe move the desk too. Figuring out a good layout for this room would be good.
I kinda also want it to be a non hurried non scheduled do what I please when I please... I think I will start with a soak and see if I can get to some journal time after dh leaves. One more day for him. Next week hopefully he's
to do some yard work. I work 3 more shifts and then going to dd and dsil. And dfil place for a week or so.
Other weekend priorities
Bedding washed
Beds switched
Thorough cleaning master bedroom
Whb
Finish weeding greenhouse at dad's
Hill potatoes
Some groceries
Figure out for sure house sitter for next week
Tidy up dd room if we have someone come stay
Put up ds curtains and poster finally
Today's tada list
Finish qt
Switch laundry to dry
Soak in tub instead of shower
Wash top blanket
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some
