Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American engineer, futurist, and inventor. He is known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.
Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla first studied engineering and physics in the 1870s without receiving a degree. He then gained practical experience in the early 1880s working in telephony and at Continental Edison in the new electric power industry. In 1884, he immigrated to the United States, where he became a naturalized citizen. He worked for a short time at the Edison Machine Works in New York City before he struck out on his own. With the help of partners to finance and market his ideas, Tesla set up laboratories and companies in New York to develop a range of electrical and mechanical devices. His AC induction motor and related polyphase AC patents, licensed by Westinghouse Electric in 1888, earned him a considerable amount of money and became the cornerstone of the polyphase system, which that company eventually marketed.
Attempting to develop inventions he could patent and market, Tesla conducted a range of experiments with mechanical oscillators/generators, electrical discharge tubes, and early X-ray imaging. He also built a wirelessly controlled boat, one of the first ever exhibited. Tesla became well known as an inventor and demonstrated his achievements to celebrities and wealthy patrons at his lab, and was noted for his showmanship at public lectures. Throughout the 1890s, Tesla pursued his ideas for wireless lighting and worldwide wireless electric power distribution in his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs. In 1893, he made pronouncements on the possibility of wireless communication with his devices. Tesla tried to put these ideas to practical use in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project, an intercontinental wireless communication and power transmitter, but ran out of funding before he could complete it.
After Wardenclyffe, Tesla experimented with a series of inventions in the 1910s and 1920s with varying degrees of success. Having spent most of his money, Tesla lived in a series of New York hotels, leaving behind unpaid bills. He died in New York City in January 1943. Hi, trissie. Thank you for starting us off. Tesla was certainly an interesting and I think unappreciated inventer. At least, when I was growing up, we only ever hear about Thomas Edison.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off, and some very interesting information about Tesla. I was aware of him, but unaware of every he had accomplished.

Today DH is WFH, and it's supposed to be hot (27 C /81F) and sunny. So warmer than yesterday, but hopefully much less humid. (I don't mind the heat if it's a dry heat, but the humidity really saps my energy.) Not sure if I'll try and ring the caterers today, as DH will probably come downstairs and start crashing around the kitchen when I'm on the phone.
(He doesn't seem to realise that I would appreciate the same quiet that I give him for his calls if On in the same room.) But what I *can* do is get all the information I need gathered together and in a logical order. Then I'm all ready, and if he does have a Teams meeting or similar, I can take advantage of knowing he's occupied for a while. 
The kitchen tap has stopped dripping again, (probably because it's hot! No, I don't know why hot weather makes it stop either! ) so as I want the plumber to see the tap actually dripping so he can hopefully make a more accurate diagnosis about which part (s) need replacing, I need to hold off ringing him for now, presumably until the weather gets cooler again?
DH has just announced that the plasterer has turned up again at DF CW 's house. Fortunately the key is now in the key safe and he knows the number, so I can take my time getting showered and dressed before I go and feed Izzy.
Apart from all that, just a usual Tuesday!

Sort prints and put in albums (this will probably be an activity to do on wet days!) WIP I am now working on 2024
Think about setting up Guardianship for F,J and M - looked on Cats' Protection, I need their microchip numbers, approximate DOB, colour and markings and useful information about them. Bookmark link with local recommended solicitors (also ask DF CW?)
Change health centres to the one nearest us? On hold ATM , but I'll leave it on my list so I don't forget.

How many guests(20? Remember at least a couple need to be GF)
Explain that the treasurer has the "chequebook" for the church (she actually does everything online) and ask them to send the invoice there.

I confess I hadn’t heard of Tesla before the car and all of his accomplishments read like Greek to me. I definitely don’t have a mind for science although I do enjoy learning some of the simpler things regarding animals, environment, nature…

It's lunchtime here, so DH and I are having a quick sandwich. So far, I've taken Fred for a very long walk first thing, completely of his choosing - I think we must have covered nearly a mile, up and down the steps on the estate! So that will do for my walk as well, until it cools down. I also managed to have some time in my garden before it got too hot, and had my coffee outside. Ive also had a chat with the plasterer, and fed Izzy. It's now 28C and set to get hotter , and although it's beautiful and sunny, I'm going to be inside for the next few hours.
I don't think I'm going to get either of those phone calls made today. DH keeps coming down and interrupting me with requests for kit for his new career "on the steam trains". Its nice to see him so enthusiastic, and neither phone call is urgent, and can wait until tomorrow if necessary.
