lauralind, have you tried adding a bit of citric acid? Sometimes that's what's needed.

helia, can DH and DD just go home if the rain turns out to be too much? If so, then there's nothing to worry about!

Trissie it does have lemon juice in it. I asked ds if it was doubled with the recipe and he said yes. That's supposed to do it. Oh well whatever. I'll add a bit more. And maybe some cornstarch. Or I wonder if I just buy that bottle of ball pectin and add that. I'll see what s thinks at work too.

Helian, you've reminded me I need to clean our fridge. Right now would be a good time, as The Girls have somehow telepathically discover I need to do nails etc, and have vanished My other task for today is to water the front garden, and it's still too early to do that. It's cloudy ATM, but if the sun comes out it will be in full sun. LOL at the mattress topper!

Laura, I agree that reboiling is the way to go for those jars. Could you add some fruit that's rich in pectin? (For some reason, gooseberries come to mind , but I may be wrong!)

Bama, how did you use your early start on today?

Trissie, I would love it if DH would out his newly learnt skills into practice at home! Somehow, I think the possibility is small, but one never knows!

I have also spent too long sitting since I got back from church. There was a baptism straight after the service, so we had cake with our coffee. It's not desperately hot, but it's very humid, so I'm in need of some motivation!

lauralind, I've been taught that if jam does not pass the spoon and plate test, a teaspoon of citric acid is to be added, boilt for 5 minutes and tested again. Sometimes, the fruits are simply too sugary and there's less acid in it!
kittykatt, a baby baptism or an adult baptism?

Things are BAD here (not everything from the kids' summercamp was dealt with, plus Tuesday and Wednesday, after getting home after 12 hours away, I barely managed the basics and DH does NOT manage the basics when he's trying to work from home with four kids), but progress is being made and that counts, right?

Trissie, it was an adult baptism. The lady has been taking preparation classes with one of our associate priests, but didn't want t it to be on front of lots of people during the Sunday service. On Thursdays, there's only usually about a dozen people, and we hold the service in the Lady Chapel, so it's less overwhelming and more intimate. Oh, and BTW, you're right, and all progress definitely counts!

Hi, all. I am up and have done my main errands for the day: I have transferred the donations to the lady from the rescue, Germane has had a little toddle around outside, and we have sent the kitchen garbage down the chute. So, technically, we don't have to leave the apartment again today, though we reserve the right to do so, LOL.

trissie, I hope that your sore throat improves.
I can relate to having an embarrassment of riches when it comes to choices for housekeeping tasks, and I don't have children to pick up after. But we have made a start.

helia, I have a df who is very prone to back issues, and she swears by her mattress topper. For me, most of my issues are in my knees (and sometimes hip, ankles or feet), so a knee pillow (goes between the knees) is much more effective. Maybe your dh could try one of those?

LOL, Bama, we are an eclectic bunch and you never know what you are going to learn here. Today it's mostly great advice about canning.

Kittykatt, cats understand body language so much better than we do, LOL. Of course, my rabbits used to clue in when I started singing "It's bunny torture time, It's bunny torture time, I'll cut your toesies off, Poor Bunny Scissorhands!" You don't do anything like that before cutting their nails, do you?

Gma, could you buy your dmother a fancy travel mug for her hot chocolate to reduce spills? Something that is designed for the car, so that it resists spills and it doesn't look like you are giving her a sippy cup.

I'll bet that your car is happy with your morning's accomplishments, L.Ann.


I didn't actually get much sleep last night, so I'm heading back to bed. Germane has already beaten me to it. After strolling around the apartment to check that I'm here, she has taken herself off to the bathroom to sleep.
