I can’t believe I’m opening the thread today (although Harriet could have started it in the wee hours ). But sometimes something needs to be done, and you’re the one who needs to do it, whether or not it was in your plans. What are you called to do today?

Hi Mystery!! Thank you for opening the village today.

I was asked if I could boil some eggs for an egg salad for dh. As soon as he left for his bloodwork, I put the stove on and did that. I also put the kettle on and used the boiled water to wash the floor in the hallway for the second time this morning. I've also cleaned the litter box from the hall and sprayed some air freshener. I could smell something, but I think it was just the litter box.

I've also watered some plants and removed the dead leaves.

We are having a cottage roll tonight. I will make boiled potatoes to go with it. I'm also going to boil a small turnip/rutabaga. We both love it and I just bought this one last week and it's already sprouting tiny little leaves.

There was frost on the ground this morning. Dh took out a bag of garbage for me. Some yogurt that expired.

Mornin' I was up in the nite a couple time b/c I had coffee last evening to warm up after ...
my bs crashed. Adjusting Rx amount today.
Up at 6:00

Swept leafs on drive way.
Brr- 37* / 50* F. today's temps. range.

I have a plan for my day to that helps.
Glad for what I've accomplished in the past few days so that helps.

the 3 season room building is gone - we still have the slab but that will be gone in a short time! probably tomorrow or Friday! we don't have electricity in some areas but they will fix it. they will put a plastic tarp on the back wall so that the wood floors don't get ruined.

I have to set up a temp fence for the dogs so that we don't have coyote problems at night.
I need to put lights in the back to see the dogs at night - solar probably

I am overwhelmed - brother stuff that keeps affecting our family (esp dd's) - I can't even think about that today - it won't give me the peace I need to keep moving forward. it's all about control and not questioning anything. peace!

I figured the way to have peace is work with my card file. I have some must do temporary cards for the front room.
what needs doing:
remove the rug in there - first move mom's bed out of there so that I can move the rug. clean well
call and find out where my chair is that was supposed to be delivered in October.
remove the christmas presents in there - start wrapping
clean the room entirely
put away will help a lot.

Hello, again!

I think I have time for a proper post now. I dropped DD at the dentist’s office and took DC to school — fortunately, they’re in the same direction. And the most convenient exit for the dentist’s office is open after over a year! I was worried, getting off the exit — I could see an ambulance getting off the westbound exit, and I knew I didn’t want to be ahead of it; there is still construction going on, and it’s only one lane headed to the hospital. Fortunately, no one was behind me to get mad that I was stopping at a green light.

Anyhow, I’m at the dentist’s office now, waiting for DD. If she needs work done, we have to schedule it right away; she drops off the insurance in a month.

Got my desk cleaned off yesterday. Started working on revising my cards, too, but I’m still working on that today. Can’t do much while I’m here, though.

Nancy, I just assume you always have a plan — you do so much!

You’ve got your work cut out for you, blessed! Now, are you just getting rid of the three season room or replacing it with something new?

Mystery - Thank you for opening up the SHE village this morning.

My day is off to a good start with the first 8 pathways accomplished. I'm waiting on DS17 to finish one last assignment then homeschool will be done for the day.

I am trying 2 new-to-me tweaks to my daily doings
** Highlighting the cards during the hours I’ll be out of the house makes it easy to spot when certain groups won’t get done since I won’t be around. It’s such a simple thing that gives me the info at a glance instead of having to keep track of it all in my head.
** A 3"x5" card for DH will outline our day. He can’t remember the exact times of appointments, but he does remember that we have them. Even for daily routines, like picking DD14 up from school, he’ll repeatedly ask when they’re happening. I’m going to start giving him a 3"x5" card each day with the times of each appointment listed.

"A cottage roll is a specific, popular, and uniquely Canadian cut of meat that is essentially a boneless pork shoulder butt (picnic shoulder) that has been cured in a sweet and salty brine.
It is similar to a ham (which comes from the leg) or corned beef (which is beef), but it has its own distinct flavor and texture. It is widely available in Canadian grocery stores, particularly in Ontario and the Maritimes. "

Sometimes these can be on the salty side. They are really good (dh and I love them) and they are around the size of a 5 pin bowling ball or a bit smaller. They are brought to a boil and then simmered for2 hours to get the interior temp to 165 F. We usually have boiled onions, carrots, potatoes and cabbage to go with it. Not having cabbage or carrots tonight. I throw the onions in with the meat while the veggies are (usually) boiled together. I will be cutting a turnip/rutabaga into cubes, boiling it and then mashing it with a bit of butter and black pepper.

Reason #12,345 why I love where I live. A MASSIVE yellow tractor just pulled up at the end of the driveway/entrance to a field across the street. I'm fairly certain they had corn in the field this summer. This tractor has 6 trailers hooked up behind it. They have covers on the top of each one that look like they are made of some sort of material. NOT something I would see if I lived in a city.

IKWYM. It would be DS17 dream to be the one driving that tractor.

We had a brief moment in time without our driveways looking like a used car lot. Now DS17 has his new-to-him pickup here after talking neighbor into taking his cash with the promise to pay the last $100 when he gets paid. One of his friends is here in his side-by-side so the 6 vehicles is one of the reasons we could qualify as a HOA nightmare. One day.....the teens will be gone and our busy driveway will just be a memory.

Mystery, we are forever having detours around here. Great to get the convenient route back.

Cathy has made cottage ROLL before, so I knew it was a cut of meat and not a cottage LOAF, with which I am familiar. (I thought she was talking about that at first.)

From the U.K. especially, cottage loaf is a wonderful 2-part bread, about 2/3 or 3/4 one big circle, and the rest a smaller circle. After getting them kneaded, risen and ready, one places the smaller circle of dough directly on top of the lower circle and sticks something down through the two, like a thumb or the handle of a wooden spoon. Then they can be baked without collapse and come out looking sort of like a turban. No pan needed. Rustic.

Laundry is drip-drying. Skillet brunch enjoyed and all the dishes away.
