Pause a Minute Thursday

Post by MysteryWoman »

Since I can't think of a proper topic, I can at least get our little home set up. We've got some nice, hot beverages over here in the corner, along with a variety of pastries. The chairs are comfy (but not so comfy as to require BGS), and throw blankets are available if you're chilly. A fire is laid in the fireplace, just waiting to be lit (I don't want to assume you're that cold). Festive lights are brightening up the winter gloom. Stop in for a minute and tell us what you're up to!

Need to make this quick -- I have to pick up DC from their final exam in a few minutes.

Cold again here today, but thankfully, the ice has stayed on the south side of the city. (I suppose the folks there are not thankful.) Got going early to take DC to school, and, since I didn't have to spend time salting everything, I had time to fill up the front tires. Yay! I should get better traction -- until they leak again in this cold.

Christmas tree is up and lit. The living room has now been taken over by boxes of ornaments, so that's a job for today. Was hoping to work some more in the playroom, but by the time I get DC home, it will be time for DD to have lunch before work. Will have to do double time tomorrow when everybody's home.

Alarm just went! BBL, I hope!

Mystery - Thank you for opening our SHE village today and arraigning things so cozy and welcoming.

3 things for today -
** DD14 initial 55 minute appointment with dietician on Nourish.com
** take DH for hair cut
** Follow up on DD14 BFDIA shirt that was paid for but never received.

We have bright sunshine, calm winds and predicted to reach 70F/21C today. it is perfect December weather IMHO.

Happening in the kitchen - Korean beef with some sort of rice dish side. I'll decide on the rice when I get started.

back to "pause a minute" ...

I've gotten dh a half zip sweatshirt! Yay! I had to go to a specialty men's store to get a large enough size. Glad that's done. I also looked for sketchers slip ins. I have taken the executive decision to wait until they have ones that he can actually try on. They don't have any in stock right now and he prefers white footwear. Other than a couple more stocking stuffers, I think I'm done.

Back when dh started asking me what I wanted for Christmas I told him I needed to replace 2 frying pans and the toilet seat. Yesterday he bought me the 2 frying pans and said "this isn't a Christmas present". Today he bought a new toilet seat and said "This isn't a Christmas present!" Yay!! I'm so happy to get the new seat as we have needed one for at least a year.

Tonight we are having sausages, peppers, potatoes and onions. That gets cooked on the stove and then in the oven. Dh will be having hot sausages which I will keep in their own frying pan instead of going in with all the other stuff.

Got DC home from their exam; they say they think it went well -- there were no surprises, at any rate. Picked up gas on the way home; got a good price. Lunch is in the toaster oven now.

Hi, blessed!

LadyM, I envy you your weather. I'd take 50 and cloudy if there were no wind or rain. I really need to harvest the thyme from our garden; I don't know if it's winter hardy, and I do know our jar of thyme is getting low. There's rosemary, too, but I think it's hardy. The oregano is shot. I've been meaning to tell you that I've had great success working with a nutritionist. She hasn't put me on a diet, which is a good thing -- in the past, dieting has triggered mood swings -- but rather been working incrementally to change my diet. I think I've lost 30-35 lbs this year, which for me is a drop in the bucket, but a noticeable one -- my jeans are loose. When we started, I was seeing her (virtually) every other week; now it's every 6 weeks.

You can do this indeed, Nancy!

Cathy, I think you're wise to wait. The slip-ins don't have real laces, so you can't adjust the fit. He definitely should try them on. Dinner sounds yummy!

Lunch is done now and DD taken to work.

Mom's tree looks nice. mom isn't doing well today - I don't know how but her shoulder really hurts - she did eat breakfast, have her boost, have her meds - watched our local quilt shops online sale that they have every christmas time. (she really enjoyed it)

next:
bring empty christmas boxes downstairs in closet

Mystery - WOW! That sounds like exactly what kind of help I'm hoping DD14 will receive from this nutritionist/dietician. The whole reason for doing this is because it was recommended when DD14 received her autism diagnose. They talked about the tie between the brain & gut health. I agree that dieting rarely works long term especially when compared to making small incremental changes for better health. DD14 was all for doing this until 2 days ago she expressed some reluctance to meet with dietician. I am not going to push her and definitely don't want her to be put on a "diet". I'm hoping this initial consult will result in good information for DD14 and not push for big changes or dieting. I'm trying to stay in support & cheerleader mode and let the medical team guide her. Although....saying that, I am absolutely capable of showing my Mama Bear mode if they do anything that could potentially harm DD14.
