helia yes I saw the pic, and meant to look for a recipe to try to make something similar (maybe not as pretty, though). I just had time to look at some videos on star bread so now I want to eat some. Is it cinnamon inside ? I hade some leftover yeast from the brioche recipe...

L.Ann you must have needed that sleep !

Gma how wise to get the vaccine. It is free here for any elderly people or anyone with a condition. I wish it were for moms too, I would hate to stay in bed with the flu and MrNG sick too when the kids are still so young. I hope you don't get any reaction.

Went to post office to return A-- parcel. When I was back from post office, A-- and Z-- (two young girls from the neighbourhood) were here to play with DS7. But everyone was excited and loud. When it started getting dark outside I politely told the girls to go back home. Young kids don't really get polite demands  they kept asking why, and what if they stayed a bit more, and such... Now the house is a bit calmer.
Our kitchen sink is clogged, the special liquid I tried earlier didn't do wonder, I will put some more tonight and leave it overnight.

TADAs
trip to post office
trip to convenience store : Destop, zucchini, cheese, pesto
weekly menus - finished
games with the two girls, snacks
entertained the two extra kids some more then sort of gave up

TODO
pre prep easy dinner
FACE session
fold many boxes (parcels)
online grocery order
a family movie for tonight ? some book reading, some sort of exercise, think about 2026 goals, quiet time, family journal updated ?

Happy Boxing Day, all! I was feeling pressed and stressed earlier, thinking that I should make the trip to Pet Valu to take advantage of the 20% off Seniors Day to stock up a bit on the dog foods that Germane is favouring at the moment, and that I have to do it now now NOW to beat the weather coming in. But when I brought up the details, I decided that I am better off to go tomorrow afternoon after weather has come and gone, as Seniors Day has been extended for an extra day. And that will allow me to call my db and have a nice phone visit without worrying about getting to the store or going out in weather. Happy Boxing Day indeed, LOL.

Kittykatt, thank you for starting us off and for the information about Boxing Day. I hope that you have a very relaxing one. I have memories of bringing cans of vegetables and soup wrapped in white paper to church in a box. I think that might have been our Boxing Day offering.

FrenchFly, Etienne and Stephan are the same name. I would compare it to William and Guillaume being the same name.
I think that you are very wise to focus on getting the things done that would most bother you to bring into the New Year. I wonder if I can narrow my focus enough to do the same?

L.Ann, when I'm tired, the motion of moving my eyes across the page puts me to sleep in no time. It is a pleasant way to go to sleep though.

I'm glad that you are getting a chill day, helia, and that your health is improving so that you can get back to your running.
The star bread was very impressive, and looked delicious.

Gma, I'm glad that you have family close enough by to spend Christmas with. I still have to get my flu vaccine as well. Maybe in January.

Friday
Cleaned up floor in front of dog’s pee pads
Treats for dog
Cleaned up pee pads
Put on a pot of coffee

FFB, yes, the star bread had cinnamon in it. It was kind of like an unfrosted cinnamon roll, but the bread had layers. I can ask dd27 for the recipe, though she made it gf. What is destop, by the way? Hope you get your sink unclogged.
Hoping you made it to the pet store before the bad weather hit, Doggedly. Maybe you're getting the sleet/ freezing rain that we've had.
Glad your walk wasn't slippery, L Ann. This was my first time ever hearing of star bread.
Gma, I also had no reaction to the flu shot this year. I guess my arm was slightly sore the next day.
Hi Peaches.

I had a grand time at the gym with dd30! I spent about 1.5 hours there. I jogged 15 minutes, swam a couple laps of breast stroke - in the warm pool and then in the lap pool, sat in the hot tub, and then showered. Now, I can't believe it's 3:30 pm already. I'm going to have some qt next and then work on thank yous and wrapping and payroll - curriculum review.

I can now see a layer of ice on the trees; it's very pretty! Things were not too icy when I was out earlier, with the exception of our driveway.

Next:
- some qt
- reclaim the kitchen
- thank you cards

Later:
- list for the day
- reclaim kitchen
- make the bed
- resurrect toodledo
- laundry: fold and p/a
- finish wrapping gifts
- pay taxes
- finish charitable giving
- make med appointments
- Mem. thank yous progress
- payroll: curriculum review
- lunch at some point
- dinner out with dh
- duolingo
- update health apps -- need to get back to this
- read
- untangle yarn
- put away puzzle
- start new puzzle?

TaDas!
- up; weighed self
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- text greetings to ex-dsil
- asked dd30 when she's going to the gym
- back exercises
- dress to exercise
- gathered stuff for the gym
- gym: 1. touched base with dd27, 2. jogged on the track for 15 minutes, 3. changed into swimsuit, 4. warm pool with dd30 - swam a bit; 5. did 1 lap in lap pool: breast stroke. I can still do it but I'm not strong anymore. . . 6. hot tub 7. showered!
- home; moisturized and finished dressing in day clothes and put things away from the gym
- lunch + vegging

Hello everyone!

FFB, how wise to try and get things done that you don't want to take with you into the new year.

L.Ann, you must have needed all that sleep!

Helia, that sounded a very worthwhile time at the gym, and how nice to go with both your DDs. I did manage some time outside, a very short, cold walk, and some time in my garden, some deadheading and a little more work at the end of my garden. I've also out another coat of paint on my gate, so it's now done properly!

I didn't have any reaction to the flu vaccine either, Gma.

How nice to have a good phone visit with your DBro, Dogged!

Apart from the bare minimum of housework and some time in my garden , Ive done nothing today, except read a couple of my Christmas books. It was cold and grey today, so it was lovely to cuddle up all warm and cosy indoors, with a cat on my lap! :D

hi, everybody! I did get my flu shot, tho I have read that it wasn't designed to cover what has become the most common strain this year. They did the "best guess forecast" and missed this year. It does strengthen general immunity, and reports I have seen is that the common strain this year is milder, with fewer hospitalizations, among those who do get vaccinated. Once in a great while I have a reaction to a vaccine, that makes me tired for a couple days. I couldn't take that chance this year! But nothing pressing on the calendar for several days. Hoping for no reaction so I can be cleaning in my house, but not a disaster if I have to take a day or 2 to sleep extra.

Doggedly, that is nice of the pet store to extend Senior Day because of weather!
Helia, that is a beautiful star bread. My DIL told me about when she brought a spinach dip, bread stick Christmas tree to her family Christmas. She said it was gone within 10 minutes of coming out of the oven, so she didn't make it again, because it took an hour to do! I'd think that if it was that well received, it was indeed worth the time and effort. Everybody says my cardamon braids look pretty nice too.
L.ann, I hope the sleet doesn't turn slippery for walking.

I watched the 2025 Christmas episode of Call the Midwife, while darning a couple sox. I don't usually darn sox, but mMost of the each sock was in just fine condition, so I figured it was worth the time and effort, instead of just sitting to watch TV. The pharmacist who injected the vaccine said to use the arm, so I went to the driveway of a friend and cleared some ice. She wasn't home, so will wonder who was Santa's elf.
Then I have started cleaning my bathroom - I have done 2 of 5 drawers, 90% of the countertop. Bathroom has the same counter as when house was built, in 1963. It will be a redo project "one of these years" as 60 years it's showing a little wear. Now taking a little break, then need to do the rest of the drawers. While listening to Christmas music. I won't tire of that for a long time!

I guess it's time to get back to work.
