I guess I gave the week a kick start last night -- I got all the dishes washed or in the dishwasher, straightened up the rest of the house, and vacuumed the hardwood and kitchen floors, and got dgrands' clothes washed. (I always have a few items for them after they've been here a day or two, and sometimes, I have to wash something for them to have clean clothes the next day because I've sent too many items home with them!)
Anyway -- I felt good about everything when I went to bed last night -- and dgd was BACK over here because ds was afraid he would not get home in time to take dgs to football this morning. He had to make a 9-hour trip from Missouri and as it turned out, he was home with about 20 minutes to spare. SMH.
Harriet -- you asked how they are enjoying their sports seasons. DGS seems very happy with football and I don't think he ever complains about practice or anything. My cousin, whose daughter is a student trainer for the team, sent me a picture of dgs and another boy standing on the sidelines, and the other boy (a senior who I believe is one of the better athletes) had his arm around dgs' shoulders. I showed that picture to ds, and he said, "I know, they all seem like they like (dgs). When I was in 9th grade, the seniors mostly ignored me! I
hoped they would ignore me!" LOL. None of us (including dgs) expect dgs to get any more than the bare minimum of playing time, but he seems to be happy just being part of the team. On Tuesday nights they have "team bonding night" and they'll get together at the field house and play video games or Frisbee or kickball -- just something to have fun with no pressure to perform, like they probably feel in practice. DS is impressed with the varsity coach and so far, everything seems to be going well.
DGD seems happy with volleyball as well. She got to start tonight and in the last couple games, I think. She did really well in the last game, but tonight, she was a little bit off -- but their team is doing well and when she's on the bench, she and one of her friends are talking and laughing the whole time.
Grandma is... enjoying the games, but I must admit, I am glad they are both sleeping in their own beds tonight and tomorrow night! With ddil working this weekend, and ds out of town, it has been hectic! Whew! Of course, they will ALL be here Wednesday night -- we will finally celebrate dgs's birthday along with ddil's -- her's is tomorrow, but his was June 26! I gave him some money to spend on his trip, but I have about half his gift still here, wrapped up so he can open it when we have cake and pizza with dbil, dsisil, and my dmom. I love having them here, and the house is too quiet when they are gone, but it is also exhausting having them here 24 hours a day! Plus I cannot keep food in the house!
Anyway -- tonight, after dgd's game, we all went to see
Young Washington. It was very good. However, ddil and I decided we want to see Middle Aged Washington, or maybe just Slightly Older Washington, LOL! This one ended before he met Martha. We
thought he had met her but it turned out to be another young lady! This movie is a little bit gory in some parts, but dgd didn't seem bothered by it at all; she just kept checking the time on my watch. It was supposed to start at 7:15, but with previews and ads, it was more like 7:45 when it started, and getting closer to 10:00 when it was over. She was pretty tired.
LadyM, I am also impressed with your ds and the truck window! He just amazes me on a daily basis! BTW -- from what you said earlier, it doesn't sound like he wants to move near his girlfriend's grandparents, right?
Ditto what Harriet said, Nancy --
we have to remind ourselves how much we are getting done, ... We deserve to take a bow sometimes, for all the things that do happen!
It is so easy for me to get down on myself for all the things that are left undone. I have started giving myself "credit" for "Extra Tasks" on the days I have dgrands or do things for my dmom. ChatGPT has convinced me that these are not insignificant things I do, and I realize that it is not possible to do EVERYTHING EVERY DAY. I'm trying to show myself some grace, I guess.
(((Rose))) Hope you are sleeping well and wake up with no headache!
(((blessed))) I hope things go well for ddyounger, and for all of YOU there at home!
Harriet, you may need to take it easy tomorrow.
mmmm... peach salsa sounds good, Twins. How do you make that?
Nancy, if you can teach ddog to put away her leash, surely I can teach these dgrands to put away things! * I must admit, they are being MUCH better about putting dishes in the sink, clothes in the hamper, and trash in the trash can. MAYBE it will carry over to their own home? AND they will eventually have habits that will carry over to their PARENTS? One can only dream...
Well, it is midnight, and it just started pouring down rain again. We had a pretty heavy rain earlier in the day. I still need to hang clothes to dry, which means putting away the ones that have been hanging since last week...

and I would like to do my 15 minutes walking exercise because my weight has not been pleasant lately and I have been VERY lazy about exercise... and I haven't done my Bible reading today.
Tomorrow, I need to go by the church and sign some checks, and I need to get a Wmart order together -- but will talk to ds before I do that, in order to make sure I have all we need for Wednesday night. No more ballgames this week, but dgrands will be with me Thursday-Saturday (at least one at a time, and sometimes both. DS has another long trip.)
Hope you all have a great day Tuesday!
