Re: Stanley Kubrick Saturday
Stanley Kubrick (July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999) was an American filmmaker and photographer. A prominent figure of the New Hollywood era, Kubrick is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers. His films spanned a number of genres and gained recognition for their attention to detail, innovative cinematography, extensive set design, and dark humour.
Born in New York City, Kubrick worked as a photographer for Look magazine in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He made his first major Hollywood film, The Killing, in 1956. This was followed by two collaborations with Kirk Douglas: the anti-war film Paths of Glory (1957) and the historical epic Spartacus (1960). In 1961, Kubrick settled in England. In 1978, he made his home at Childwickbury Manor with his wife Christiane, and it became his workplace where he centralized the writing, research, editing, and management of his productions. This permitted him almost complete artistic control over his films, with the rare advantage of financial support from major Hollywood studios. His first productions in England were two films with Peter Sellers: the comedy-drama Lolita (1962) and the Cold War satire Dr. Strangelove (1964).
A perfectionist who assumed direct control over most aspects of his filmmaking, Kubrick cultivated expertise in writing, editing, color grading, promotion, and exhibition. He was famous for the painstaking care taken in researching his films and staging scenes. He frequently asked for several dozen retakes of the same shot, often confusing and frustrating his actors.
Many of Kubrick's films broke new cinematic ground and are now considered landmarks. The scientific realism and innovative special effects in his science fiction epic 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) were a first in cinema history; the film earned him his only Academy Award (for Best Visual Effects) and is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made.
While many of Kubrick's films were controversial and initially received mixed reviews upon release—particularly the brutal A Clockwork Orange (1971), which Kubrick withdrew from circulation in the UK following a media frenzy—most were nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globes, or BAFTA Awards, and underwent critical re-evaluations.
With the horror film The Shining (1980), he became one of the first directors to make use of a Steadicam for stabilized and fluid tracking shots, a technology vital to his Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket (1987).
A few days after hosting a screening for his family and the stars of his final film, Eyes Wide Shut (1999), he died at the age of 70.

Re: Stanley Kubrick Saturday
Hi, Kittykatt. Thank you for starting us off. I am going to claim work done after midnight as Saturday accomplishments, as I suspect that Saturday will require some embellishment. For now, I'm just happy to sit back down.
Saturday
Found a free audio book app and installed it
Filled the balcony rack and set it up on balcony railing
Wiped down the dishes in the dw and left them on dry cycle
Swept out Germane’s pen and back entrance
Set up the small drying rack and clotheslines
Hung the delicates and landry bags
Took the dishes out of the dw to finish drying
Put away the dw and cart

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start. I hope the load of clothes your DH had washed is now lint-free, and your kitchen is cleared from any messes.
Hi Doggedly, you've made a good start to your Saturday !
Gma, sorry to read your DF passed away. (( ))
Sunny morning, woke up in the camping tent we unfolded yesterday night, after a good after-dinner walk. It's not the large tent we usually pitch, it's a smaller one we had Before Children. I can just fit in with both kids.
MrNG slept indoors and is now plotting a home improvement project of shelves for the LR.
There is a grocery order to pick up, people to feed, and two kids to entertain away from screens...
Another goal for the weekend is to dye my hair, I need advice, probably on youtube videos and with an AI, in order not to make huge mess and in order for my hair to look, if not better, at least not worse.
I hope to bbl with tadas.

Re: Stanley Kubrick Saturday
Good night, Dogged , good morning to everyone else, and happy Saturday to everyone!
Dogged, WTG on being up to date with the laundry and your other achievements, especially making that dental appointment. And a big WTG for getting ahead with Saturday!
FFB, sleeping in the tent in the garden sounds fun - was it cooler for you? I was thinking of you yesterday evening when the fires in Spain and France were on the news - I hope you're all staying safe.
Helia, that was a lot of stairs - I'm not surprised you're sore!
KitKat, glitter is the worst for spillages. - think you've got it all up and then a bit "winks" at you. I am still finding white bits of tissue, especially in the drum and runner seal of the washing machine, which DH was supposed to have cleaned.
I didn't do the delicate wash yesterday, I just left the door open to let everything air. I might try using the little cordless vacuum on the drum today (probably not on the seal,.in case there's any residual dampness!)
L.Ann, dancing raisins sound fascinating. It made me think of the traditional "Snapdragon" game, but I think that would be considered too dangerous these days!
DH has left for his day volunteering on the local heritage steam railway. I'm still in bed, relishing the peace, and planning my day. It's supposed.to be cooler today and tomorrow, before the heat returns next week. We may even get some rain tomorrow. The forecast started with "torrential downpours" but has now morphed into "showers".
I also need to do some serious self reflection. DH is very stressed ATM as HR are being uncooperative and refusing to answer questions about his pension and redundancy payment, or give an up to date statement on either. And,.of course, the clock is ticking towards his retirement.. I need to make an effort to be more patient and understanding, and not get irritated when he demands to know why I haven't bought any strawberries this week. I did patiently explain that the English and Scottish ones are nearly over, so tend to go "off" within a day of two even in the fridge ( I don't buy strawberries from abroad) but that we did have apples, bananas blueberries, cantaloupe and two types of grapes for him to choose from instead! Oh, and plenty of cherry tomatoes ( I'm never too sure if they're a fruit or a vegetable,. but they're good for snacking on).
On a lighter note, today is also Freddie's 13th birthday , so I'll give him something a little special along with his breakfast.

Re: Stanley Kubrick Saturday
Oh my gosh, getting in here this morning took ages, I really hope I manage to get this post through!
kittykatt, now I have the intro to Space Odyssey playing in my head!
I am sorry the HR at your DH's job is not being helpful. It would indeed stress a person out!
Frenchie, so you are having a stay-campt-ion?
When is your big camping trip this year, or did you already do it? Sorry, can't remember
I am having a slow morning. Very needed this week. There was a sleep-in, and reading in bed, and slow breakfast, but it's time to get going!
No plans for today, but tomorrow we are going to a friends' house for dinner. Hmm... maybe that's the right occasion for DBD to wear her new dress, if I finish it in time!
I did copy the pattern and research the necessary adjustments (the pattern is for wonen fabrics and I will be making it from jersey, so I can skipp all back being a button-up, and also need to do the neckline in a different way), so today I have to cut the fabric and get started on the assembling.

Good morning Trissie! ( It's still just morning here!
) I'm glad you were able to enjoy a nice slow start today. Dinner out tomorrow woul be the perfect time for DBD to wear her new dress, and to show what a clever Mum she has.
The most important tasks for today are done - Freddie has had his walk, a little extra Greek yogurt, and was allowed to help himself out of the food cupboard to biscuit, as it's his birthday
, Mica has been fed and the towels are in the machine.
The plague of white "bits" seem to have taken over the house.
I think time and the hoover should sort most of it out. In the meantime, I'm taking my coffee outside.

Re: Stanley Kubrick Saturday
Glad you got a slow morning, trissie! Have fun sewing.
You have gotten a lot done so early on a Saturday, Doggedly. I suppose you're working on the sleeping task right now.
Enjoy coffee in your garden, Kitty! Happy Birthday to Freddie!
I have heard of Kubrick and have seen 2001. Lots of discussions among friends about Hal these days in regards to AI. . . LOL! Or maybe not so funny. . .
Good luck with your hair this weekend, FFB. I bet your boys enjoyed sleeping in the tent last night!
My body would not sleep in this morning - I think too much going on and low level stress. SO I'm up and dressed to jog. I'm planning to go to the weekly 5K run event! This way I'll get my exercise done by 9 a.m. I'm hoping to see S2 there and maybe K. I need to be otd in 20 minutes.
My weight has settled back to what it was last week, so that's good.
Yesterday was a busy day. I got the main things done but not some of the smaller things, like tweaking the IR Exam and typing up the notes for the sweet EPT student. I'll hopefully get a bunch of small payroll tasks out of the way today.
Today: Other than the morning jog, I'll be spending a few hours today cleaning and setting up in prep for CG1. I've counted 18 people who will be here, so smaller than usual. I think J is bringing pizza. I'll confirm before setting up the patio for dining. (Gluten can be eaten outside - we just keep the inside of our house GF.) Then, we'll host CG1 5-9.
Next:
- back exercises
- gather stuff and go to park
- run 5K! Then run an extra 0.4 miles to make it 3.5 miles
Later:
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
- some qt
- play room: put away pack 'n play crib
- play room and stairs: vacuum
- play room: wipe surfaces
- living areas: dust surfaces
- living areas: tidy coffee table and side table
- living areas: clear off art table
- set up patio (if eating outside)
- lunch
- after lunch clean up
- run dw
- payroll: edits to IR exam and send draft out for review
- payroll: AI listening exam draft made and sent out for review
- payroll: type up notes for EPT student
- payroll: send exit text results to student
- payroll: prep for M tutorial??
- can I start packing?
- set up for CG1
- 5-9ish host CG1 (18 people)
- clean up after CG1
- duolingo
- update WW
- update MFP
TaDas!
- weighed self and dressed to jog
- email deletions + weather website
- charging earpods
- coffee; straightened kitchen counter
