Re: The Threepenny Opera on Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper) is a landmark 1928 musical drama created by playwright Bertolt Brecht and composer Kurt Weill, with adaptation contributions from Elisabeth Hauptmann. Inspired by John Gay's 18th-century work The Beggar's Opera, it premiered on August 31, 1928, at Berlin's Theater am Schiffbauerdamm. The production merged avant-garde theater with jazz-infused cabaret music to deliver a sharp, socialist-leaning satire of bourgeois morality and capitalist exploitation.
Set in the seamy underbelly of Victorian Soho, London, the plot follows the notorious criminal Macheath (known as "Mack the Knife"). Macheath secretly marries Polly Peachum, outraging her father Jonathan Peachum, who controls all of London's beggars and attempts to send Macheath to the gallows. Despite the interference of the corrupt police chief and Macheath's eventual arrest, the chaotic story culminates in an absurd, satirical twist where Macheath is saved from execution by a last-minute royal pardon on Queen Victoria's coronation day.
Though initially banned by the Nazis in 1933 due to Weill's Jewish heritage and Brecht's leftist politics, the show became one of the most performed theatrical works in history after World War II. Its opening number, "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer" ("Mack the Knife"), transcended the stage to become a legendary global jazz and pop standard. Today, The Threepenny Opera remains celebrated as a revolutionary turning point in modern musical theater and political performance.

And I am off to work, but for those who enquired yesterday - a 200 item challenge was embarassingly easy in this house! But it did make an impact
I just went around and dealt with things that were not where they were supposed to be - a magazine here, a scrunchie there, a toy or a yoghurt cup - and the numbers kept adding.

Re: The Threepenny Opera on Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. I wish it was Thursday, but it's still Tuesday!!!
I need to get moving - I spent too long looking at chairs yesterday and I'm overwhelmed by the choice, so I need to step away and get my house in order. I'm sure my subconscious will help with a decision while I'm cleaning.

Thank you for starting us off, trissie. Dealing with 200 items sounds impressive to me!
Having just gone through all of this, I sympathize, Kittykatt. I think the first decision is whether you want special features for your chair. Once you decide on that, you can check the stock of local stores. If they have what you want at the price you want, then you can go and sit in it to see if it supports your back.
We have a splendid storm going, with thunder and lightning, and rain for the fields and forests. Germane was restless earlier, and I had to stay awake in case she knocked the air conditioner hose out of position. Now that I have acknowledged her good job of using her pee pads and fed her, she has settled back down.

Re: The Threepenny Opera on Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
That's a great SHEM trissie!
I will have to try the 200 item challenge someday. What happens when one loses count, however? I can totally see myself doing that. LOL! Have a good day at work.
What kind of chair/s are you buying, Kitty? I missed your chair shopping.
Sleep well Doggedly.
Yesterday: I taught for 4 hours, went to the 40 minute teachers' meeting, had dinner out with CG2 friends for about 1.5 hours in the evening. I did other payroll - prepped for the tutorial, prepped more for AAS class, edited the AR Exam, did a last read through of the exams I put together. I did my app things in the evening and printed out the backpacking list that dh had sent out. I also started prepping my passport under-clothing bag, put new batteries in my headlamp, and texted dd28 that I need the waist of my hiking pants let out more. When I bought them, maybe 10 years ago, they were way too big and dd28 took the waist in significantly -- but now I seem to be growing into them quite nicely.
I also read a bit in my fun book!
Today: I'm up and drinking coffee and hoping to be at 'em soon. I didn't get enough sleep last night. If I'm super tired this afternoon, I'll try for a cat nap. My main goal for the day: be packed and ready to go by the end of the day - as much as possible. I need to do a little shopping to accomplish that feat - REI and 2 grocery stores. (I will have little time tomorrow to pack with payroll taking a big chunk of my day.) Also, I'll do my last meeting with my frenemy the stair master. I'll either aim for 70 floors or perhaps just 30 minutes. This all depends on how I feel when I actually get on the machine. . . If things go well tomorrow, I'll go for an early morning jog - the hill.
Next:
- some qt

Re: The Threepenny Opera on Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning and thanks for another start, trissie. I'm sure I would have no problem finding 200 items out of place... especially, if i included basement. There are kiddie toys, doggie toys... random baskets, bags... Today might be a day for it as I have only brief periods at home...
Kittykatt good luck with the decision
Dogged we had your rain but no thunder. (Or I slept through it?)
helia your trip is so exciting!
Yesterday, I put my feet up " for a few moments" and, promptly fell asleep on the couch. I was late for class, so I took ddog for a second (short) walk. Despite the long nap, I slept over 7 hours .
Today:
- drop off pup
- home (do something)
- dH appt
- home (do some more)
- DD's Ddog (let out/in/water)
- home (?)
- DGD pick up
- DDog pick up
- home (D2ex, snack for DGD)
- DGD drop off/class
It does not look like it will be very productive...
I must :
get gas
lol
clip shrubs in back
figure out dinner
And now:
feed pup
meds/suppl for me
D2s
I can do this...

Re: The Threepenny Opera on Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning / good afternoon, Dogged, Helia and KitKat!
Re the chair saga. We used to have a sofa and matching chairs from IKEA like "normal people".
The chairs were from the Poang range in smart brown leather and the sofa (which I love!) is a small 2 seater in brown leather. However, the chairs are very much intended for younger people, as they're very low, and you end up bent like a prawn! So, a few years ago, my knees and hip started hurting, and then my back joined in. I thought it was just older age creeping up until we visited some friends, spent hours sitting on their beautiful higher seated and more ergonomic sofa, and, when we got up to go, nothing was hurting.
So, I put two and two together and the next day went chair shopping. I just sat in chairs until I found one that felt right and gave support. ( This was actually in one of our big warehouse type charity shops - they take a lot of brand new end of line and over stock items and my chair was one of those.) It's orange, not a colour I would have chosen, but it ticked all the boxes and the fabric is like linen , and unattractive to cats.
(Very important in our house - anything loosely woven or bouclé is out, as those little claws are irresistibly drawn to it!) And when the otherwise perfect chair is presented to you, you don't turn your nose up!
And with one of my pretty scatter cushions in place, it looks fine.
Fast forward 4 years. DH has done something to his back/ shoulder and sitting in "his" chair makes it worse, so he has commandeered my chair while he "looked for a new chair", and I'm relegated to the sofa, which is wonderful for lounging on a lazy Sunday afternoon, but doesn't give much back support for sitting, and is also low. I was ok with this to begin with, as I don't like to see him in pain, but this has gone on for weeks now, there's no sign of him making any attempt to look for a new chair, and on Sunday evening when I got up to go upstairs to bed, my joints were complaining big time.
So, with DH away this week, it's time for me to get organised and Do Something about the Chair Situation.
Ideally I wanted another identical chair, so I took a photo and set AI to work. However, it appears to have been discontinued ( I had to tell AI not to waste my time giving me details of things out of stock, just to concentrate on items that were available.). I also spent a lot of time looking at the construction (several were using materials that suggested they were for "ornamental" use rather than actually sitting in.
) And, of course, the measurements are important, as I need a higher seat.
Eventually I managed to track down the successor to my chair. (This has also been discontinued, but it's ok, there's still plenty around in various outlets. ) This chair is grey, but I think it will tone in well with the rest of the room, so it hopefully all looks "mismatched by design" or, as AI put it, "curated" , especially with the scatter cushions drawing everything together, rather than a second hand furniture shop.
Hopefully this chair will be fine, but the company are offering free returns, so I've got nothing to lose. So DH will now have a choice of chairs. If he doesn't like the new one, he can have mine, and I'll have it instead.
And that's what I've spent most of yesterday and part of today doing!
