Hello, everyone! Happy Civic Holiday weekend to Cathy and all our Canadians (presuming it's a national holiday and not provincial)!

(((Gracie))) I hope you have good luck in your vet search, blessed. Is the construction company totally done? They should have taken care of their debris. :x

Glad conditions are better, Nancy.

I've gotten a fair bit done today. Hit the treadmill after breakfast, though not for very long. Did the remains of yesterday's dinner dishes before washing the breakfast dishes. Went to the library to pick up my book club book on hold -- Carry on, Jeeves (my pick). Had DD drive, so she also swung by her bank to deposit a couple checks. Getting out of there was a pain, making a left turn at an intersection with no light. At one point, she would have had space to make her turn, but two pedestrians decided to cross, one to her right, the other to her left, at nothing resembling a crosswalk, chatting to each other over the 75, maybe?, feet between them and not particularly paying attention to traffic. DD feels as if the universe is singling her out by having at least one weird thing happen every time she drives; she's still learning that there's usually at least one weird thing no matter who you are.

We are heading out this afternoon to trivia at a local game parlor. If I were in better shape, it would be within walking distance. The city sponsors it, or at least promotes it. Part of the reason I'm here is postponing a DPC to find out details: is there a fee? are there teams? etc. It wouldn't be a DPC except that there are two different phone numbers for the place online. They don't have a proper website, just a Facebook page, and the number there is not the one given by the Chamber of Commerce site. So which one updated theirs last? I think I will try the number from the Facebook page first. Wish me luck!
I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped. -- Prince Humperdinck

I did a deep dive into a new project I am doing in August. It feels exciting and fun to learn & create different ways to tweak & do the same things I that I normally do. :) I don't know if that makes sense. I had to make myself stop and take care of some things that I was slacking on.
Do any of you teens mom's have issues with them being anti social like that?
I think all teens are different in their social skills and desires. I am learning how autism affects social skill where even the basics of looking people in the eye when talking, shaking hands, and small talk is a BIG struggle. We have spent years talking about the life skills needed and practice these social skills with DD15 because it doesn't come easy for her. It took a couple years of practice for her to be able to feel comfortable interacting with waitress to order her own food and interacting with cashier to pay for things. She needs these life skills, so it was important for her to be able to do them. Now she does them without any problems, but it was hard learned skills that included some tears and anxiety while learning them.
DD15 social skills are improving but it doesn't come natural to her. I just dropped her off on main street of our little town where she is meeting 2 friends to walk and talk for a few hours. They will hang out at park and walk to get drinks at coffee shop while talking nonstop. DD15 also talks on phone to friends for HOURS every day. Loud passionate conversation & laughter can be heard.
I text frequently with DD15 & DS17 even when they are in the same house. It is an easy way to keep the communication pipeline open and flowing (if that makes sense).
DS17 is almost always surrounded by friends. He has a dozen or so friends that are here frequently. I can't remember the last time we had a day without his teenager friends here. There is always some drama happening. The drama is usually little things that they make sound BIG as they learn to deal with different life skills & situations. Every day I listen as they talk and try not to give my opinion unless asked. I will ask leading questions that take them in the direction where they decide on a way to deal with the drama. But the solution has to be their idea....I don't think they realize my questions lead them there.
I could write pages everyday about the teenagers doings. I try to limit what I write here, so I don't bore everyone to pieces.
....looking at the lengthy essay I just wrote. SHEEzzz

what a strange experience to walk outside and not feel like you've entered an oven. We are getting a two day respite from the 100+ temps. It is only 97F today which might not sound like a big difference, but it feels cool and comfortable.
IMHO, the temperature comfort is whatever you are used to.

DSonIL just landing back on America soil a few minutes ago. He is returning from 6 months TDY in Australia. He has turned in his retirement papers so this will be his last international trip. He will still be traveling frequently but his plans are to attend games in nearby states that his son is coaching and other games that his grandchildren are playing. He has regrets in being away so much of his kids/grandkids life and doesn't want to miss any more of their life events.

I remembered I was going to sweep mop & clean the bathrooms.
So will be doing that now as it's pretty close to toth.

X Sweep
X Mop
MIght wait on the others.
Main bath
My bath
Chase cobwebs

My power was never out.
It's a bit breezy out and more smokey now.

Sort of feel like a slug today this has been a stress full last couple of days.

DD is enjoying her job delivering groceries, new for her.
Not so much the shopping part so she is sticking to the deliveries.

almost done with decluttering the pantry shelves and washing them with lightly bleached water - it needed it -

mom had furosemide today - we are down to once a week - we also had to tweak her valsartan - the combination is a killer for her. mom even ate lunch. first a good breakfast. chatting away - very cute: she wanted to sit in the kitchen with me while I cleaned the cabinets. doing great mentally! girl left at 1:30pm -
very pleased with the new weekend helper.
smart and kind girl.

hello d Nancy those bathrooms look spiffy!

hello d lady! glad you got a break from the 100 degrees!
glad it feels cooler - dd younger says the same thing about Florida - I have seen her in a jacket when we would all be in shorts. :D
my oldest tells us that she was made for a cool damp Irish winter. She burns easily! Crazy enough she does like heat though!
Welcome back to your d sil!!!!! my dd's loved Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
Good for you d sil that he doesn't have to do any other global work adventures. Good for him - excited that he can attend games, coach and spend time with his d kiddos and d grandchildren

excited for you re: your august learning and creating project for August!!! I personally, have learned so much from you! Never boring and oh so helpful!
"Loud passionate conversation & laughter can be heard" made me smile!!!

mom just laid down.
next: vacuum the bottom of the pantry and wash it. clean the top shelf.

pantry shelves are cleaned and cleared of things that are past their date. I need to do this twice a year rather than once a year.
