Re: Watermelon Wednesday
Watermelon is a large, sweet , nutrient dense summer fruit with a hard green rind and juicy red flesh. hydrating, nutrient-dense fruit known for its high water content (about 92%) and sweet flavour. It belongs to the Cucurbitaceae plant family, making it a close relative of cucumbers, pumpkins, and squash.
The Health Benefits of watermelon include: Hydration: being 92% water it helps maintain fluid balance.
Lyopene: Packed with antioxidants that support heart and skin health.
Citruilline: Contains amino acids that may reduce muscle soreness.
Low Calorie: Delivers high volume and sweetness with minimal calories.
To pick a ripe watermelon , look for the yellow spot: A creamy, yellow "field spot" means it ripened on the vine.Tap it gently: A deep, hollow sound indicates the fruit is full of water and ripe.pick one that feels heavy for its size, as heavy watermelons are juicier.
To slice safely: Cut off both ends first to create a stable, flat base on your cutting board.
Quick Serving Ideas include Classic Wedges: Sliced into triangles for easy, hands-on eating. Savory Salad: Tossed with feta cheese, fresh mint, and balsamic glaze. Frozen Treats: Blended and frozen into refreshing summer ice lollies.

Re: Watermelon Wednesday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Wednesday!
L.Ann, I hope the orders were easy to sort out.
Today, DH goes to the office and I'm at home. I really must try and get those windows finished today -I ran out of time yesterday (probably too much time chatting with the neighbours, but it was a nice way to spend time on a summer day.) Other exciting tasks include cleaning the kitchen and working out who needs more flea control, so I can order more when I'm at the vet tomorrow. I've had notification for Fred, but not for the other two, and the system does have glitches sometimes. I'll check my supplies. Apart from that, I'm hoping for a quiet day!

Re: Watermelon Wednesday
It was a quiet day on turnip Tuesday. Yum to watermelon especially in the summer.
It took Jetter guys 2 full hours to clear the drain. They never even went through the K, the blockage was farther down the plumbing line. We've had them before, it has never taken this long. Everything is working well now!
I spent literally HOURS cleaning up the supper dishes from last night plus the mess that was made checking the system last night, plus the mess the guys made today. They were "pretty good" at cleaning it up, but I had some additional to meet my (my mother's?) standards.
We had sweet corn, on the cob with our supper tonight.
And I have to get up early tomorrow morning to make a substantial breakfast for the "kids" as they are driving 1 1/2 hours to a zoo for part of the day, and returning in time to lead VBS. I think they are going to make sandwiches and take lunch.
Post office called me today to say everything had gone through.
I meet with the funeral home in the afternoon to take care of the final things, then
go to the bank with some papers for dfBS, so her brother can officially take care of the estate. (I wish he would answer the email I sent) I;ll send him another email tomorrow after I have been to the bank on his behalf.
And now it's bedtime so I can get up early and bake the breakfast casserole.

Re: Watermelon Wednesday
Good morning/ (good night?) Gma. I'm glad the blockage is all fixed, and sorry about the mess left for you to clear up. Did they give any indication of what caused the blockage? I hope the brother of your DF BS gets in contact with you soon. I'm sure he's grieving the loss of his sister, but he does need to stay in touch over vitally important things like the funeral arrangements. Corn on cob is a wonderful summer dish - my Dnextdoorneighbour C grows it on her allotment, so it's always beautifully fresh.

Re: Watermelon Wednesday
I am alive! Just went a bit MIA. DBD has been safely deposited at her two week scout camp, which we helped to build, and DtDK has been sent off to her one week camp (because for some reason the twins would NOT attend the same camp, so DtDT is going next week), so we're left with DS and one twin home. At fortnight-shy-of-fifteen and 13, they no longer require constant supervision, so both DH and I were able to go to work Mon+Tue, but I will be working from home the rest of the week (I could go to the office, I just don't want to
Anyway, everything is still after-packing mess and the garden needs attention, so I have my work cut out for me!
gma, before and after service people cleaning is no fun, but it does mean that things need to be done on a schedule and cannot be procrastinate about, so there's that!
kittykatt, enjoy the husband-free day!

Re: Watermelon Wednesday
Good morning, Trissie! You've certainly been very busy, and it's good to "see" you again.
DH has left for work, so I'm just relishing the peace for a few minutes before I get moving. It's supposed to be hot again today, so it would make sense to do outside jobs early and late when it's cooler.
