"Rainy Days and Mondays" is a song by the Carpenters from their self-titled third album, with instrumental backing by the Wrecking Crew.] It was written by Paul Williams (lyrics) and Roger Nichols (music), who had previously written "We've Only Just Begun", another hit for the duo. The B-side on the single is "Saturday", a song written and sung by Richard Carpenter.

A demonstration for the song was initially sent to Richard Carpenter by Williams and Nichols. Upon hearing it, Richard felt that the song was perfect for Karen Carpenter and him to record. The song was recorded a few weeks before Karen’s 21st birthday. Richard wanted to keep the song’s arrangement sparse to showcase her vocal talent.

“Rainy Days and Mondays” peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, spending seven weeks in the top 10, It also became Carpenters' fourth consecutive top-five single in the Billboard Hot 100. However, the song failed to chart in the United Kingdom until it went to number 63 in a reissue there in 1993. "Rainy Days and Mondays" was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for 500,000 copies sold in the United States.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Monday!

Safe travels, Helia! So glad you caught your flight smoothly.

Dolphins.are.a lovely sight, L.Ann.🐬

WTG with your kitchen table,.Gma!

Dogged,.you got lots done!

DH is on leave this week, so he'll be home.today and tomorrow, volunteering on the heritage steam railway on Wednesday and then going to stay with his DBro on Thursday for a long weekend. Mica's owners are supposed to be coming home on Tuesday/ Wednesday, but I haven't heard from them since 31st July,.which seems strange. Oh well, I just have to keep on feeding her and waiting to see what happens. One day at a time.

Love that SHEM, Kitty! And Rainy Days and Mondays is a song I remember as a child. I found it a bit wistful/ melancholy. Do you and dh have any plans together today?
L Ann, I gathered that there are dolphins in the river, the Potomac? That is so very interesting!!

I AM HOME! 8-) We got home without incident around 6:30 pm last night. We got through the Detroit airport super fast. It helped that we hadn't bought any souvenirs. That's the downside (or upside?) of traveling with 1 carry on bag - no room for souvenirs or gifts. Friend EP gave me some gifts from Provence, France, and those took some space as well.

I made a quick run to WF last night to get fresh milk, yogurt, and fruit - the essentials here. LOL!

I must say this was one of the nicest vacations I've had! I think that was partially bc (1) life was SO busy leading up to it - heavier payroll schedule, lots of prep for the trip, so many social activities and other small trips and hosting - that it was such a welcome break! (2) Also, it was long - 18 days, so we got a good long break from daily life. (3) My body cooperated quite well, I must say! Historically, I get sick when we travel - and I did not this time. Even on the hut tour, I arrived at the huts after each hike in good shape and in good spirits! And some of those hikes were pretty strenuous. No problem with the altitudes, up to 3200 meters. (4) My plan with new shoes worked very well for my feet, which were comfortable throughout. We did a lot of walking - everywhere. My new hiking boots are great - no blisters or foot pain on the hiking bit. (5) It was a nice mix of activities - nature (mountain hiking), museums, palace (Avignon), cathedral (Barcelona), history, art, architecture, FOOD - so much great food! We ate gluten freely! (6) It was a nice mix of people - time with dd28 and AA, time with dh's family whom I adore (generally), and time with just dh. Also, a day visit with friend EP from Israel. (7) We stayed in very nice bnbs with a/c - so nice to return to after a hot day walking around. -- I'm happy to be home but also sad it's over.

On to real life. It is 5:20 a.m. I woke up about 50 minutes ago and just couldn't get back to sleep. I've had my coffee, checked emails and the weather website - high of 79F (26.1C) today! :D SO nice after the heat in S. France and Barcelona.

My main goals for today:
1. Unpack
2. Laundry
3. Get some groceries
4. Enrollment meeting for S and K 10:30 - 12? Dh isn't sure this is happening.
5. payroll: Instructor meeting 1 - 1:40
6. payroll: type up notes from instructor meeting
7. Exercise - jog?

Next:
- reclaim kitchen
- some qt
- unpack suitcase

TaDas!

Good morning! Thanks for the rainy start:) Kittykatt! It rained here as well. I see Mica's owners are due back...
helia
welcome back. I was thinking that it WAS the break you needed after a long, hectic period. Glad it all went well.

I did not get here yesterday as I was out most of the day: a photo session by the lake, shopping at Can.Tire, a yoga class with DD, 2 walks with pup and DGkids. One lol got done...

Today: I have my youngest DGD starting this morning and we pick up the others from camp at noon...
Right now, I must D2S and walk Ddog.
Will try to get laundry done and kitchen counters cleared and cleaned while the kids are here.

Hello, Helia and KitKat!

Helia, I'm so glad you had such a lovely holiday. DH and I have had coffee and lunch together, and today we're going to go through his drawers together (his idea - he wants to get rid of rugby shirts/ t shirts etc that he no longer wears, and wants a bit of help / encouragement.).

KitKat - a photo session at the lake sounds very interesting - was it landscapes, or with DGKids? Yes Mica's owners are due back Tuesday / Wednesday, but as I haven't heard from them since the end of July, I'm a little concerned ... but we have a plan in case of their non appearance. (Of course, they *could* turn up exactly as they promised, but...)

We've had a little rain, just enough to dampen the dust, (but it's reminded me that the weather is going to change sooner or later and Mica cannot carry on living in their garden indefinitely). I've done a little in my front garden, DH made ham and tomato sandwiches for lunch, using the leftovers from yesterday's joint, and freshly baked bread (we have a bread maker).

So nice of dh to make sandwiches for you both, Kitty. Freshly baked bread - yum! I'm thinking of finally experimenting with baking gluten free bread.
Sounds like a lovely day yesterday, kitkat, and another full one today with the grandkids! Enjoy!

I have made some progress. I'm largely unpacked. The kitchen is tidy once more. Laundry is going - lights have been washed through to put away/ drying on drying rack. Darks are finishing the washing cycle. I've gone through the mail, found a lawn guys bill, and copied it so it's ready to pay. (I always save a copy with check # and date paid.)

Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- dress to jog

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - down a tad. (Might be down more IRL? We snacked a lot after arriving home - I think we were just tired rather than hungry.)
- coffee and tea
- email deletions + weather website
- reclaimed kitchen
- lights: w d f pa
- darks: washing
- unpacked hiking backpack
- unpacked carry on suitcase - still a few toiletries to put away
- unpacked backpack - still a few books to put away
- quick go through of mail
- copied lawn guys bill so I can pay it
