Repeat from PWYC
-- But HOW do I break this cycle??? --

WHY do I keep getting on those scales??? They just put a dark cloud over my whole day. And why do I keep gaining weight when I'm trying so hard to start walking and doing better??? I guess I'm eating more to compensate and reward myself for the extra activity. * sheesh *
Tomorrow is another day.

Right, Nancy, you are healthy, so you can get around to the lower weight later. The "healthy" is the real goal, because it makes so many other goals of all kinds more achievable. (Like stamina to crochet. 8-) )

lucylee, there is a running joke (at least half serious) over on the T-Tapp boards about throwing scales out windows, running over them with cars, etc., - anything to switch over from them in favor of the tape measure or the how-do-my-clothes-fit measure method! I go ahead and weigh every morning before my water, though. I'm sure some people would tell me it's not worth it.

I think Lynlee's advice in PWYC was good. It helped her to just not have the trigger foods available after her exercise. Maybe before you leave to walk you could decide on (or make) exactly what your next meal will be. What if you made up the nicest, most-variety prettiest salad EVER, put clear wrap over it, put it in the fridge to chill and grabbed it when you got back from the heat?

If you are looking for healthy menu choices at restaurants here is a link for some restaurants.

http://healthydiningfinder.com/

Just put in your zip code and it will list some local restaurants and menu choices. The number of menu choices are listed next to the name of the restaurant.

Thank you for the link, Indiana. I ate a weight watchers menu item at Appleby's yesterday when we got home into town.

I was up little over 3 lbs. for a couple weeks and discouraged and stuck. But this past week on our trip I've lost 3.5 lbs. I'm going to try to keep that off. And continue on my way down. I was 145.5 this morning.

We took a 10-min walk on a trail after dinner each evening while we were away. I'd like to keep that up. Here, we often take a bike ride after our dinner. I don't take anything along other than cell phone and keys, but always drink a big glass of water soon as we get back. Rides are 20 min or little longer and I think I've measured 1 1/2 miles. We speed along quite nicely!

Goal for this part of the year: I'd like to be under 140 by 12/31.

Harriet, when I clicked on Indiana's link and put my zip code, one of the places was the same restaurant we met at - and our lunch was listed at 480 calories and 24 grams of fat!

lucylee, are you still out there walking? Yikes, you'd be hard-pressed to do it here. They say our air quality isn't good! Walk in the cool of the morning, okay?

Nancy, if you are going to be having record-breaking temps, you be careful, too. We want you to feel well out there! Great job on your loss and wow, dh had a big success.

Oooo, helpful link, Indiana. So often we think eating out is hopeless, but really we can bring it back in line.

Harmony, that's a great report after a trip. And now that you're home you can hang onto to it. I still have my circular note pad page taped onto my desk here. "circling 140, Jan 1 2011". As of this a.m., 146 - might as well just blurt it out here.

I've had a glitch, of course, in my exercise plan/goal, with my bronchitis/pneumonia thing. For the past four mornings, I've done only about 5 to 10 minutes of floor stretches. I guess dr will tell me Tues how much he thinks I can get away with for a while.

Thinking about "raw foods" and Smile Lee. Every morning for a week or more, I've been having variety of fruits in a smoothie, and that is good for me, I think. ( I know that for a diabetic person this would not be so smart, and I realize it's a lot of fruit sugars.) Later I have a salad. Sometimes very early in the morning I start off with cantaloupe. I would be interested to hear from Smile how she would expect the "raw food" part of her own diet to change when the summer fruits aren't available.

Week of July 19...
No, Harriet... walking is going to be a big zero this week, I'm afraid. DH walked around the stadium 30 minutes before the game one night, but I just couldn't keep up, and didn't want to increase the sweating any more than necessary.
I dread seeing the scales.

Well, not a total zero.
Week of July 19
Friday -- 30 minutes -- walked 2 miles outdoors w/ds (who RAN 2.5 miles in addition to walking with me!)
Saturday -- 20 minutes -- walked 1 mile outdoors, alone, which makes me slower and less motivated
Sunday -- 23 minutes -- 8 minutes, floor exercises; 15 minutes "walk away the pounds"

I'm with you Lynlee...I walk when the sun isn't up or after it's gone down. Today I got lucky as we had great storm cloud coverage. I took advantage of the clouds and Willis got an extra walk. Make that 5 miles for me today...plus I raked our new grass area and filled a large 3 gal. bucket with dirt balls. That aught to count for something. Tomorrow morning...think 6am I'm gonna fill the bucket till the sun gets too hot ;)
