On Fridays, we turn up the cyber music and “Conga” though the day to encourage each other as we get our homes ready for the weekend.

What kind of dance are you doing today?

My dance of choice today is the gallop -
In dance, the galop, named after the fastest running gait of a horse (see gallop), a shortened version of the original term galoppade, is a lively country dance, introduced in the late 1820s to Parisian society by the Duchesse de Berry and popular in Vienna, Berlin and London. In the same closed position familiar in the waltz, the step combined a glissade with a chassé on alternate feet, ordinarily in a fast 2/4 time. The galop was a forerunner of the polka, which was introduced in Prague ballrooms in the 1830s and made fashionable in Paris when Raab, a dancing teacher of Prague, danced the polka at the Odéon Theatre, 1840. In Australian bush dance, the dance is often called galopede.

I am enjoying the pleasure of being back to my normal pace. I am still in "spin up" mode however I have my daily structure in place and know if I just "keep on keeping on" it will eventually get back into my scheduled cards groove. Yesterday CCC (completed card count) was 82

This morning I have one week followup after surgery appt. I am expecting to be given a "all systems are go" thumbs up from the eye doc. Then I will tackle the 2 page buying list **UGH** at Sam/WM. That will probably take me a couple hours even though I know exactly what we need (list) and will be not being casually shopping.

Yesterday afternoon/evening was a mixture of work, play and adventure. DH mowed the MPB while I mowed our yard. Our goal was to get the mowing done before the rain started and we made it! We had about 15 minutes to fix/eat supper (beans, rice, salsa) before we met with fella and finalized upgrade plans to MPB security system/camera. After that meeting we drove to the lake to check out a potential fishing location. One the way home we saw a fella sitting under a tree in the bar ditch. this was about 5 miles from the closest town & highway so it wasn't like he was hitch-hiking. My elderly DUncle/DAunt live about 1/2 mile from his location so we stopped by their home and told them about him. Then I called DBro who lives about 1/2 mile in the other direction to make sure he was aware. Everyone had seen him in that bar ditch over the past 2 days but no one had check it out! Argh!! Like a good little sister (ha ha) I told DBro he needed to contact the police to get them to check him out. He could be a lost mental patient. DBro went to talk to the fella in the bar ditch but he was gone. DBro did promise he would keep an eye out for him and get the local police involved if needed to get the fella some help if he is lost.

Slowly getting moving here. Was awake from about 2-4 and finally read for probably 30 minutes to hopefully not be able to keep my eyes open. Slept till 5, dozed, till 6, dozed till 7.

Have to go to church this morning to help with the bulletin. Works out pretty well right now as the secretary is also on the Pulpit committee which meets at 11 each Friday. Doubt that will go too much longer as a portion of that committee will be going north for the summer. Have been seeing the numbers dwindle the past few weeks and after this week it'll really go down. Think I'm probably the last one leaving.

Still haven't sent invitations for the baby shower as we still don't have a place. Getting nervous now. Will ask dh to light a fire under someone later today.

Have about 2 1/2 weeks to finish getting ready to go north. So guess I better get serious about things here to be done!

We took gd to dinner last night to celebrate her report card. She was in a 'mood' and made the evening fairly miserable. Just don't get it. We went to a new roadhouse and the meal itself was pretty disastrous. Many errors over the evening. DD and DSIL will not be going back. DD immediately wrote a letter to corporate when we got home. We'll see where that goes.

Ok, I'm off to busier pastures. Dancing my way there (or NOT).

What is a bar ditch, Okay?

I wondered about that, too, Dee..so I Googled it. Here's what I found:


"A bar ditch, also known as a barrow pit, is a roadside pit or channel dug for drainage purposes.[1] The term is most often used in the Southwestern United States."

I've been up for a while, and have actually been somewhat productive. Downstairs critter care is done, the bed is made, two loads of laundry are folded and put away. Now I'm going to eat some cereal, go deal with Miss Grumpy Clover and her babies, and get ready for another fun-filled day at the puppy prison. Thank goodness I have tomorrow and Sunday off!!

Never heard of a bar ditch but back in SD all roads had ditches beside them. I've noticed I have to explain what that is in some places as it also must be a regional term.

It is getting hotter here so we are staying more and more in the house. DH tries to get his morning walk in before 9 and the evening one after 7. Last night the walk was interrupted by a wonderful visit with friends on their front patio.

I think his gaining strength is hampered by his back. I am going to call our GP for a recommendation of some therapy - but, of course, his office is closed today. I will make a mental note to call on Monday.

Time to hit the shower and finish the grocery list - we have to pick up some groceries today.

OH - Funny Thing Happened Dept: I had the back door propped open yesterday when a strong gust of wind moved the prop and slammed the door shut. I thought nothing of it until DH tried to get in. The tongue thingy of the door handle had jammed out and stuck. We couldn't get the door open. We had to take the handle apart and the tongue thingy still wouldn't move. I finally pushed it out further and it unstuck and then would open. We took the whole handle off and use the dead bolt to keep the door shut. So, we will also have door handles on the list for today.

All over Florida we have "swales" which are drainage ditches and counties get very angry if you mess with them or dump something in them or leave a car there, etc. etc. We are lucky not to have a deep Swale at our house, because it is our job to cut the grass in the ones on our property.

I have done a conga in our bedroom this am including folding all the laundry and a major big pickup back there. It looks way better now. I still need to take the duster around.

Garden work done, big bowl of broccoli picked and washed. I'm very thankful for the produce I'm able to get. My tomato plants are growing nicely as is zucchini and peppers. Best garden I've had in a while. I will remember to put mulch and fertilizer in the soil every time I plant.

I must write a letter to DGS who considers us his "pen pals". He wrote us a funny letter about the airplane he is "designing". I copied off some spitfire pics for some stationery. DH designed a plane to send back, his has a forklift on the front! This is the DGS who gets sad and we take every opportunity to cheer him up.

Must send bday card today also and get gift card.

Today is a paper conga for me. First update our investments in Quicken and then start in on the taxes.

The music of choice for today is The Best of the Band (in honour of Levon who died yesterday.) Took me a while to find the CD. I knew we had it but it turns out a bunch of Bs were filed in the As so I ended up playing it off the media center computer (which has all our music on it but worse speakers than the Bose.

I kept meaning to buy really good speakers for the media center computer but now it is 6 years old so won't bother - it is going to die soon, we can tell. It is desperately short of memory for all we put it through, let alone processor speed, and when we are home it is on almost all the time. They aren't made anymore (it is a Sony Vaio desktop) so I can't replace it with a newer model. I've loved it from the moment we got it and it has done exactly what we wanted it to do: dvd player, tv, pvr, music, web surfing, netflix player, plus acts as a photo frame displaying our photos from the prior year when it is in screen saver mode. It has a large hard drive (at least for us who are used to small drives on our laptops) so also is a backup of all our music and photos.

I've got 330 feet of ditch along the street front of my property. We have culverts to cross it in two places - the driveway and the front walkway (which we put in expecting to put in a circular driveway until we figured out the well was where we needed pave!) Only once have the ditches backed up over the driveway and never over the walkway. And ours are shallow enough that mowing isn't hard, although it isn't our problem anymore - that's why we pay the big bucks to our lawn care company.
