We broke a record yesterday for the highest temperature this early in the season and a record for the day at 98.

That's what I would have titled today as well, Indiana. I do remember all those world-wide who have given so much for us all.

Been up for nearly an hour -only have tested BS, eaten breakfast & sipped a cup of coffee. It has been a spectacular weekend here. Supposed to reach 92 today -unheard of (nearly) for this part of the country still in May. How many Memorial Day weekends have been absolutely wretched!

I should go do a LOL this morning. Perhaps if I get myself in gear I might get to the laundry room before others. Have a feeling it may be busy today. Prices were pretty good there until about Thursday -company came in and raised everything 25-cents, but the 2 dryers that were set for 50-cents & 40 minutes (usually long enough) went to $1.50. Oh well -it is what it is.

Wondering what a daily paper is in other parts of the country. DH had been paying $.75 a day and $2.00 for Sunday. Just went to $1.00/day and $3.00 for Sunday. $9 a week as opposed to $13/month to subscribe. Unfortunately we're unable to subscribe because of where we live. I'll be glad when dh decides he can read his paper on his K Fire.

Hmmmm.....this post makes me sound like a regular old "Scrooge". Not really.

I'm up and at it.

Dd wanted to sleep in until 8 so I couldn't get on the treadmill until then. Slept as long as I could naturally (no alarm, dark room) and then rested until 7:30. Stripped and remade my bed and Skyped with dh for that last bit.

Dh's flight was an hour late which was bad because he had 90 minutes to make his connection. Luckily he made the next flight (the only one that would get him to Berlin on time. In Berlin he starts a second ticket, through Vienna to Bologna, sleep overnight somewhere (not sure if it is Bologna or Modena) and then a train to Rome at 5 in the morning Tuesday for a day-long meeting in Rome, then back to Modena and start teaching Wednesday morning.

This is not at all the way I would have booked the trip! I would taken more time, leaving Saturday, flown straight to Rome and then working my way North in a reasonable fashion, finally taking a flight from Berlin back to Rome to catch my flight home. But I was too busy when he insisted on making the arrangements so I let him do it himself. He had planned on going to Rome originally but then the price changed on the ticket. I would have looked for a cheaper alternative and stuck with the original plan.

I take dd to the airport around 10:45 today. Her brother is taking a longer lunch and meeting us along the route to the airport so he can see her for a few minutes.

Aside from that, my day is open. I'm going shopping for sage and apple cider vinegar and thought I'd try dying my hair with that while dh is gone. I've already taken the before pics since this works really slowly over time, not instant. I also want to book a cosmetic consultation to learn what colours I should be using now that I'm getting older. My old eye shadow shades look ridiculous. I don't want to use a skin care regime (I have one that works well for me and is simple and cheap) nor am I looking for a foundation, but I do want to add colour to my eyes and lips so I don't look so washed out.

It was nice to talk to dd about dh's hearing last night. She had already noticed. I asked her to watch for other changes as well. He forgot his pocket pen yesterday and realized it as I dropped him off. Luckily I have one in my purse so gave him mine for the trip. He'd be lost without it. We actually had to buy an extra to keep at home because he does lose them from time to time (maybe 2x over 15 years) and gets agitated if he doesn't have one. I may move that backup to his computer case since it makes more sense for it to be stored there.

I'm up at six today. Coffee is half reg. and half decafe' around here as well. No cocoa in mine today. I am on the last 1/3 of the current prayer shawl knitting project. The floors need to be mopped. H. is going to grill for lunch today or maybe dinner I"m not sure which yet. Journaling up next it's cool out 40* here this morning and 71* is our high temp. in the forecast today. We had a bit of rain last night.

I'm up and we are back from our walk. We did 1 1/2 miles this morning. It is beautiful out - about 73 and no wind. I will really miss having a safe, level place to walk.

I wrote up yesterday's doings in the blog I will post on Wed. Night. That will be the last of the year here at NR. Then I will start a new journal with our travels this summer.

This morning, while I was checking out the world on the computer. Mommy and Daddy Quail and their 8 babies came scurrying by my window. I took two pictures of them, but they blend into the rocks so well they don't show up. You can only see them when they move.

Dee, a newspaper (award-winning regional paper - large) from a sidewalk box here is 75c. I think our subscription is $160 per year.

Speaking of newspapers, if anyone happens to get the chance, read the comics today, for sure. Wonderful Memorial Day emphasis by several comics. Blondie is especially funny/heart warming. Others are especially poignant.

I just threw dd out the door with Kindle and snack. She has so little chance at sunshine.

So far, hens are enjoying the sun all together, too. Hopeful.

Got a really bad case of Monday house here. Where to start?!

Think I'll start with the basics, dishes, laundry.

Dsons had a cookout last night, timed for when I came home from work. Still feel full from it this morning so just sipping coffee(decaf)only right now.

Co-worker Vanessa(20) quit over the weekend over some very bad circumstances. A male associate kept touching her leg as she stood on a ladder and when she told him to quit it, he kicked the ladder and she fell.
She reported falling but not the circumstances. We tried to encourage her to report all of it but she said she was just fed up with so many things and that was the last straw. So I'm praying she'll find another job starting Tuesday. I did get a chance to talk to management about it, hoping they review the tape. This guy needs to be fired.

Going to start a load of laundry. Looks like many of us are using the laundry twins today.

A beautiful morning here, mid 60's and breezy. It has been very windy the last 3 days.

I took my car for a drive. It had not been started in over 2 weeks and I knew if I just backed it out onto the driveway, it might not start when I want to put it back in the garage. I need to vaccum up all the dead moths that are on the garage floor. Then I need to clean what we are now calling the courtyard. It's a 11 x 23 covered area into the house. It has ceramic tile and right now it is very dusty from all the wind.

Yesterday dh reseeded the backyard. There were a lot of bare patches. Especially after he put weed killer on the lawn. It did a great job except that darn bindweed is coming back. If we can get grass growing again, we hope it will crowd it out, somewhat anyway.

I was hoping dd1 would call and want to walk but haven't heard from her.

Dd2 is about to drive everyone crazy. First she obsessed over the color scheme for her pottery studio. She finally settled on the colors. Now it is the logo. She has 7 choices and can't decide. She runs on her own time frame but she has no patience for anyone else doing the same. There has been and will continue to be a lot of pauses in this process and she gets frustrated. Dh and I really question why she needs to open a business now. I know that has always been her dream but she has 5 kids and a big house. She can't stay on top things now, so we don't know how she thinks she can do this. I had an epiphany last night as I was trying to go to sleep. No wonder her and my dm butt heads, they are too much alike. They both had cheating jerks, for first husbands. Their second husbands were/are the greatest. On top of that instead of doing what they should be doing, they are always looking for a way to avoid what needs to be done. When dd2 left on her trip to Dallas, she left a sink full of dishes and when she came home they were still there. My job was to keep the 2 little ones safe and that is what I did. In all honesty, I can see how she doesn't get a thing done because those 2 little ones are into everything. The kitchen floor needed mopped and about drove me crazy but I had told myself when they moved that my days of cleaning her house were over. So I left everything as it was and I bet she was surprised that I didn't break down and do those dishes.

Well that's off my chest! So I better get to working on the garage before it gets hot.
