I walked with dd1 and dgd15 today. Dgd15 just sauntered along and then got really mad at us for walking ahead of her. When we turned around to head home we caught up with her and she was in a mood. Within a few minutes she told dd1 to "shut the _ _ _ _ up". I was appalled that she would say that to her mother and was speechless. We walked off and dd1 started crying. I told her that was unnecessary and verbal abuse. She commented that she was used to it. She has just let her get by with it and now it is out of control. 2 years ago at the hospital when my dstepdad was so critically ill and we were all there, this dgd made a horrible, mean comment to my dd1. One of my dnephews was so mad that he wanted to jump all over dgd but didn't because of the circumstances. He was shocked at her behavior. This just has me so upset. Dd1 bends over backwards for this selfish brat and then gets treated like this.
Guess I better hit the shower and get on with my day.

Grrr....This same dgd15 is now on FB complaining that her dm makes her feel fat. Dd1 has lost over 20 lbs. since Christmas and is where she needs to be. She did this because she was starting to have problems with her hips and other joints. Also with my diabetes, she wanted to get at a healthy weight. This just makes dgd jealous. Her dad told her that she needed to get up and walk with us everyday instead of staying in bed until noon and then being up all night. Also she made the JV cheerleading squad and is required to do conditioning exercises plus run or walk daily. She is forever getting on FB and making all kinds of ridiculous comments about anything and everything.
Dd2 called awhile ago and quickly picked up on me being upset. I asked her if her dd15 had ever said that to her before and she assured me that dgd15 knows better. Dd2 says that if she needs to she will do the drill sgt. get in your face bit if needed with her kids. She says that after watching dd1 with her dd, she approaches it differently, so that it doesn't become okay for them to act like that.
Onto the shower...............

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
We had a lovely weekend here saw dson & family after church then brunch on Sun.
Yesterday I did yard work it was the perfect kind of day for that.
I loaded tree limbs in to the trailer and restacked wood pile so I could clean up leaves behind it got the cut flat wood in a diff. spot. Dug up yellow irises and replanted about half of 'em, moved two rose bushes, dug some tulip bulbs also. Great weather for it and h. was outside chatting with me for some of it. Then it was off to the fishing hole with worms I found for h. to use fishing while doing that digging. We grilled dinner on the fire pit last night. Before watching Hatfields & Macoys special on the history channel.
Today h. called in and begins his training week for no pay so I guess he got the job it's p/t and he has to call in each morning. It's driving for a concrete mix co.
Today I have swept the floors, drank coffee and need to make the bed and do laundry plus plant the rest of those irises. Others need moved as well but that might wait for another day.
first three done make bed, dishes & laundry going, take trash to curb x Yea for progress.
One phone call made.
Has any one here raised their own turkeys to eat for the holidays? Any pointers you could share with me. Thanks for the info. gals.
I've planted the bulbs that I dug out yesterday yea!

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Did my usual morning routine, made the bed and did a LOL. DH happened up to the laundry room as I was taking clothes out of the dryer. I told him I was not happy! They raised the price from $.50 to $1.50 for 60 minutes (actually the 50 was for a shorter time, but you could add quarters as you wanted). The clothes not only were not, warm or hot, they were very very damp! I refused to put in another $1.50 and brought everything home to hand on the clothes bars outside. He called the company that manages the laundry twins and told them we were having trouble. Wish I'd told him to give them my name -they at least (supposedly) would send me the $1.50.
It's supposed to rain/storm and is looking that way. Will check the laundry in a little bit to see if I can fold any of it yet.
DH didn't think he was working today, but is. Think today's the day he wants to go to a nearby town to watch our dneighbor's softball final. Then, since we're already in the preferred town, we're planning to go our for spaghetti. Love this restaurant's spaghetti!
Lilac, have you ever tried Vitamin D3? Ever since I started taking it last fall, my blood sugars have been excellent for the most part. I had told my Dr. about this and have only read very little about that vitamin's effect on diabetes. BUT, it seems to be working for me! I know that vitamin D is largely lacking vitamin in most people so knew it wouldn't hurt me. Just giving you info that's been helpful for me.

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Good morning everyone! I had a good 3 day weekend. Saturday was spent with DD10. I woke up congested and ended up letting her watch movies while I slept in and recovered. Then we went to a party. Sunday was cat clinic, very dead hardly anyone in the store. When I came back, I started moping but decided to take myself to the movies instead. Not a great movie, but I felt good about getting out of the house. Monday I slept till noon, must have been really tired. Then I cleaned up the house, did some weeding, and cooked dinner. A friend came for dinner, then we went to see Dark Shadows. I also remembered to call my brother for his birthday.
Today I have got to find some information about my flight to London. It is also Girls' Night Out. At payroll I have reading to do. I'm still tired even with all the extra sleep this weekend. Three rooms that need to be cleaned up still are: my bedroom, sewing room, and do more in kitchen.

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Sorry, Nancy, the only turkeys I've been around are in the woods here.
Elizabeth, on the T-Tapp boards, I read posts about some tips for getting over tiredness even with enough sleep. Some of the women were saying supplementing with zinc really helped them, and for others supplementing with magnesium. Some suggested going online to see if the symptoms for Adrenal Fatigue matched and finding out what to do for that.
Lilac, I neglected to thank you for concern over me yesterday. Going through the old trunk had a tough aspect to it, but yes, I have known all about those particular things since I reached an age I could understand. My only surprise was that my father had written down his thoughts about his family's sadness and kept them all those years. It was actually fun to find the old newspaper clippings and the letter of estimate for the building of their home in 1957, my mother's records of paying off the house, his records of buying cows, etc. At this point, I am pretty sure he has forgotten the trunk (it is small and was kept in a closet), and that is for the best now, since trying to take possession of these things or make decisions about them now would be overwhelming to him.
Lilac, wow, sorry your dd is brought to tears like that. 15-year-olds are at an age it's harder to start dealing with bad language that's gone on too long. As a grandparent, of course, it's never long before you find out a teen WANTS something from you, lol. So maybe you could help her understand the concept that people who have to listen to her speak in that way don't pay as much attention to her WANTS as they would otherwise... ...
Facebook is barely handled well by adults. Teens can't comprehend the finality of placing something inappropriate into their family/friends/community line of sight. What is broadcast far enough cannot be picked back up again. HRH is irritated with his brother right now because of a facebook photograph of dbil's new (gorgeous) car, in light of dbil's constant comments to all IRL about having no extra money. Now dbil just has to post a "my new toy" photo and brag, without contemplating all the different feelings it will bring up in so many people who have actually spoken with him recently, expressing empathy or even offering advice! LOL. Men. And dbil is in his 40s, so if he can't think out all the aspects of his Facebook posts, how can teens?
On the other hand, I'm able to report that my brother in law is evidently doing very well, and has been able to buy a new, 2012 yellow convertible!

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Morning Ya'll...
I love being home
As usually, it has taken me a few days to get back in the groove, but this morning I woke up full of energy and ready to go. Bed is made, my footprints are picked up and the sink is shining. I told Sweetie the new rule is either hand wash your dishes and put them right away or stick them in the dishwasher. He likes to leave the dishes in the sink sometimes.
Long ago after I got the hand of working the box I would start my mornings around 6 and have most of my chores done by 8. I was living in New Orleans at the time. By following the box, I was able to take DS to pre-school and have the mornings left to explore the French Quarters. When I moved, my friends said they missed waking up, looking over at my house and seeing my red front door open. I was usually out sweeping my sidewalks by 6:30am.
I was hoping I would feel that same kind of energy again and thats the way I felt when I got up this morning. Gives me hope.
Yesterday I spent more than 8 hours doing genealogy on my computer. I'm very lucky that my ancestors were famous. It makes my research easier. But, on the the other hand, there is tons of writings to go through. I'm trying to gather all this information for my mom. She was an only child and so far I have been able to verify all but the most important piece of information that I need. I do have some leads though and expect with time will find the tie I am looking for.
Today will be spent with Sweetie and we set up my retirement plan. Then I need to make a trip to downtown Phoenix to the Social Security office. Will do that either this week or next. I also want, notice I'm trying NOT to use the word need, to organize my desk and office. Trying to keep a slow and easy pace.
Its hard to switch over from the "I've got to get everything done by..." pace to the you don't need to worry about that any more. My mood is much brighter and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Sweetie keeps finding me singing around the house and says the change has been worth the wait. Last night I stayed up to 10 watching tv. That something I haven't done in a long time. Had to keep telling myself it was alright cause I didn't have to get up at 4:45 in the morning.
OK...running from the computer gremlins....KIC did want to tell you that I have been to Bologna many times when I spent a summer in Italy. Its been many years since then but I bet it's still just as beautiful. Cya'll later........

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Kathryn, I do hope your DH's travel plans weren't disrupted too badly from the earthquake. I'm glad he wasn't directly in it.
Cowinkie, I am really enjoying reading your switch to retired life. I am so envious. I wish it was me, but I am happy for you to be experiencing this.
bittersweet, sad about Hannah, if it was distemper wouldn't she have passed it along to the others?
(Lilac) we want so badly for our DGKids to grow up well and be responsible respectful adults someday. It is hard to witness otherwise.
Nancy, I tried to raise 2 turkeys once years ago. They get some sort of disease of the feet. I don't know what that's about, you could google it. Ours didn't make it, they also drew rats to the area because of the feed. ..shudder....I'd do a chicken hen or two for eggs, but wouldn't do turkeys again. Congrats on your DH getting the job, too bad he doesn't get paid during the training. Bad way for a company to treat an employee in my book.
I spent a great deal of time looking at pictures of mountains and forests and other places and looking over maps. I seem to have gotten a lot of that out of my system. There is just a lot going on around here that has me irked and I was in "run away" mode.
Today I am just keeping on with the usual. Closing out the month, the bulk of that work is done now, I have some left to do. Desk is slowly getting cleared up.
DH while going out the door at 11:30: "I'll be back for sandwiches". Ah, no. He knew all morning he was doing this work and didn't talk to me and I was wrapped up in paperwork at the time. The non-communication around here came to a head yesterday. This is part of my difficulties right now. Tomorrow is our anniversary. 19 years. Yeah. I get to clean and prepare and who knows what all else and work the evening and clean up after everyone..while he has the youth group here.
I'm not a happy camper. Hence the wanting to run away.

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Home Sweet Home!
Oh my goodness, we are glad to be home!!!
We sorta had a trip from H E Double Hockey Sticks, too -- but thank goodness, no earthquakes -- (((Ken))) -- & sending lots of good wishes for his continued safety!!!
I have not had time to cuop or anything, just happened to see a little bit of Kathryn's post re: Ken's trip.
Our trip crisis was a fuel pump failure on dmil's van.
DH insists on driving it "to save mileage" on our Tahoe. Our 8-hour drive Friday took more like 14 hours, by the time we were safely in our hotel room... and it was sooo tiresome and stressful and frustrating. You really have not lived until you have sputtered and stopped and started and sputtered and stopped... all the way along the bumper-to-bumper strip of Branson, MO.
Thank goodness for AAA, that is one thing I can say. Kept thinking about Kathryn's (I think) statement, long ago: "If money can fix it, it's not a problem." Thank goodness for credit card. Dmil will likely reimburse us for most -- if not all of this cost -- but * sheesh * All told, including tow trucks and rental car and taxi to get rental car, etc... we are out about $1200 now. For $200 more, we could actually have towed the thing back home. Of course, as dh said, it would still need a fuel pump when we got here.
* sigh * I'm thinking what it REALLY needs is a "FOR SALE AS IS" sign.
However, it ran just fine after it got a new fuel pump, and the trip home was uneventful, so... who knows? If dgs's arrival doesn't prevent our trip to Atlanta later in June, we may be driving it again.
Right now, I need to s2s and drive it to the oil change place.
I'll bbl and cuop, eventually.

Re: It Is Tuesday Not Monday
Oh, Yay, cowinkie!
Yes, I vaguely remember that switch from working (part-time) to staying at home full time and the feeling of luxurious relief. The last time I worked, I had a 3yo, a 1.5yo, and I was newly pregnant with now dd14. I felt physically awful. I also felt I couldn't do a good job with my payroll job and my family responsibilities at the time, so I quit at the end of that semester. We didn't need the $$ anyway - not that I was making much anyway. LOL! And I didn't need to knock myself out for that job. I haven't gone back yet, but I'm thinking of dusting off my resume and sending it out this summer for next fall, maybe 1 class so very part-time. We still don't really need the $$, but I would appreciate the accountability and the other-than-family-and-church involvement in society. I actually do better with time management and get more done with a schedule imposed upon me, as long as it is not too heavy. Is that a SHE characteristic??
Yes, glad Ken is OK after the earthquake. Our physics prof. friend was in Italy this week, but I think she left Monday for a conference in Poland - not sure exactly when the quake hit.
((Lilac)) Wow, that does not sound good. Dgd15 needs to learn some things. That has got to be hard to deal with at this point, since it sounds like patterns have been established for quite a while. I don't know details, though. ((dd1)) too.
Thanks for your very understanding comments re: my race, Harriet. I'm intrigued by the caffeine gum and might look into that. A friend gave us these caffeine shots, sort of a small amount of liquid in a small pouch. I wasn't going to use one, but I might, maybe just before the hill.
Dee and nancy, you sound like you're off to a great start!
Ds has just joined facebook! Now that school is over for him, (an odd way of doing things since there are still 3 more weeks of school for all the other students) he wants to stay in touch with some of his hs buddies. Most are also going to UM, most also in engineering. It's the best bang for the buck here. I know his friends and like them as much as I know them; they are all academically pretty driven (or their parents are for them
), almost all are Asian or Indian. As you can probably tell from my posts over time, we have a strong Asian subculture here.
OK, I have done much of my a.m. routine. I have cleared things out of the bathroom since the workers are supposed to be here this afternoon. I had some lunch and am drinking diet Dr. P for energy. I also got a phone call and agreed to help dd14's band transport instruments on an elementary school tour this Thursday; I've heard that in general, the schools here are having trouble finding volunteers. I can volunteer.
Off to finish reclaiming the kitchen and get the groc. list made.
