Happy Anniversary Wednesday

Even though I'm involved with a lot of young and new moms through the moms group, I'm not sure if all have monitors or not. I think they're pretty popular, though. I think most moms just see them as a convenience, a way of keeping tabs and gaining more info regarding their baby.

Baby swing ramblings: Our baby swing was a lifesaver with dd16; it was one of the few ways I could keep her from crying when she was really little. Well, she did pretty much sleep the entire 1st month of her life (she was 5 weeks preemie), but then she woke up -- and she woke with a vengeance. She was not a happy baby until she reached about 4 months. *phew* With ds only 18 months older than her, those were the days. . . Funny, we have very few baby pictures of dd16. I didn't even buy a swing until dd16 started screaming all the time; ds was a much more settled calm baby. Every baby is different! Dd14 used the swing a little, but it wasn't as necessary as it was with dd16. With her, it was probably more a convenient place to park the baby for a few minutes so I could get something done without worrying that the tots in the house would harm her. . . . .Probably TMI, but I'm enjoying a little stroll down memory lane. It is good to remember the nice things about kids growing up.

I had a pretty productive day:
x a.m. routine
x devo. time
x 3 lols; I still need to fold one - and all need to be put away. I don't put away while the workers are in the bedroom.
x finished ds' graduation announcements
x mail place to put the cards in the mail and buy international stamps, which have gone up in price
x bought g.p. food at animal specialty store
x checked at the vet's office re: sentinel; need to make an appt. Will do later.
x Petco - bought g.p. bedding
x groc. store - returned recyclables
x emails
x car to the car wash
x chatted with dfriend
x made a simple supper: tacoes and fruit
x ate supper w/ dh, ds, and dd16; dd14 went home with a friend and then on to field hockey practice.
x cleared table with the help of all

Now, ds and dh are off to separate meetings. No youth group this week. I'm off to pick up dd14 from field hockey practice.

I am about to sign off and go home. I learned that there will be no more Wednesday church dinners until August, so I will have to feed myself tonight. I am thinking cereal, it is easy. I have a short to do list when I get home - put tea next to purse to take to work, subtract checkbook, put away laundry. I will try to get to bed early tonight and get up early tomorrow.

Elizabeth, there is a wide and wonderful world of food out there. Treat yourself.

But I like hockey sticks! Hockey sticks are dependable and reassuring. They are unassuming. Hockey sticks don't try to be sophisticated or shocking. They don't call attention to themselves. Hockey sticks are humble. Southern folks probably have never even HELD hockey sticks but somehow we know, too, that they are wholesome and decent and wouldn't offend anybody.

Today I have had a mega-housecleaning day with dstepdil and all the while we talked and talked. I can't believe we spent 6 straight hours together on every possible kind of housekeeping chore, and moving fast – at her speed. She wouldn't even eat, but I did have a sandwich mid-way or I'd have fallen over. Almost all at my parent's house but some brainstorming here, too.

I like hockey sticks too. It isn't so in your face. I was just saying we can use the word.

MT oh boy new adventures for the summer begin tomorrow.

I laughed so hard once we got outside. I was taking Jake out and 3 grown men were fighting over who Jake liked the best and who was the best at petting.

I was trying to cuop but running out of time so I will do a better job of that later. Just wanted to thank everyone for their nice wishes for our 19th anniversary. Can't express how it lifted my spirits to read them all. Thank you!

Today was anything but quiet. We tackled that septic problem early this AM. DH went out for another part and when he came back we were at it until 1:30. New pipe is installed and now there is space for all the plugs (new and improved, who knows, bigger that we do know but don't know why). New pipe was a bugger to get in, much digging, chiseling, cementing. Anyone ever vacuum rocks and dirt out of a 4' deep hole? I have.

Cleanup was a long time to get done, including hosing everything including all the extentions to the shop vac. But everything works now and a good thing, there has been a steady trail of kids and parents into the bathrooms all evening. We have about 35 people here. DH stood the whole time and grilled all the hamburgers and hotdogs.

I managed to get the floors swept, back porch hosed including the chairs, made the lemonade, all the dishes done etc. At least it didn't look like riff-raff live here! We have a fire going, though it's so hot out the kids aren't as interested. There's a crowd out there but they are sitting back.

Maybe tomorrow will be quieter. I have to go to church in the morning to help with a mailing, but that is a quiet pleasant task. I guess I better get back out there with the smore stuff. They've already eaten a huge container of watermelon.

Happy Anniversary Harmony! You could start now planning something big and special for your 20th next year. And it wouldn't include 35 teenagers, in my humble opinion. LOL

MT - have a great start to your trip. I like to read your summer adventures - you usually cover so many states, the variety is interesting.

Granny duty is over we made muffins today.
I read a section in a book while dgd played outside in the play house. We watered some plants in the back yard. Squash plants are growing even the one I stepped on yea!
I got the crock pot going and put stuff in it for dinner. Cooked up turkey burgers for hubby to have in his lunch for the rest of the week as I did not make it to the store and we had these; spotted them when I was getting out the last of the ice cream for dgd.

OH DEAR! Harmony! I didn't realize Mr H would have 35 guest at your home ON YOUR ANNIVERSARY!! You deserve a medal!! IMHO.... Mr Harmony needs to put equal effort and expense to treat YOU to a special time.....hummm....wondering....should I say what I am thinking????

Baby Monitor - I never had one with my children ....or with LO. However, after using one at DSon/DDIL home this past year I consider them vital. I would even classify it as one of the most important baby item! Right up there with disposable diapers. When i am caring for DGD by myself the monitor stays with me at all times that she is not with me. The part I like best about the baby monitor is being able to see her (in the crib) without entering her room. A couple weeks ago, I put DGD1 down for her nap and went to get the monitor. But it wasn't there!! I was not comfortable AT ALL leaving her in a room where I couldn't see/hear her. I ended up tip-toeing back and peeking in her door.....she would POP-up each time (she was almost asleep and I kept waking her up!) Argh!! I finally had to trust she would be okay in her crib and l stop checking on her every few minutes until she went to sleep.

DGS5 was a "swinger". Soooo.....we bought DGD1 a tricked out swing that did everything but cooked supper. However, she didn't want to swing AT ALL. The swing was a total waste of money for her.

I'm full of adrenaline from church meeting. It's time to go to bed but I feel like I could stay awake for hours.

My DS loved his swing and I did too. I used to tell my friends he swung so much his little legs turned blue After that my mom sent me one of those Johnny Jump Ups...a pouch swing on a spring that hooked to the door jam and he jumped up and down for hours like a kangaroo.
