Come on, you are likely to have at least one triumph today. Don't forget to acknowledge it!

I'm up. Doesn't count as a triumph though because there's a good reason.

Yesterday we heard a ship's horn blast 3 times which is the signal for 'salute to the harbour' and means there's a cruise ship pulling out (cargo ships don't seem to do it.) Our view of the cruise terminal pier is blocked by a building but a moment later a ship pulled into view. We both thought she was a Holland America ship and I sent dh to the internet to find out which one.

His google skills are not as magical as mine and he couldn't find the answer but he found a website saying the Queen Mary was arriving "tomorrow" and with no date on the website we couldn't be sure when tomorrow was. When I got a moment last night, I worked my google magic and confirmed it was the Maasdam we saw yesterday (Holland America) and that the Queen Mary was arriving at 7 a.m. this morning.

At about 6:30, I was stirring (had been awake from 4:30) and dh commented the ship should be coming in soon. I could see two things in the outer harbour so took a photo and zoomed in on the display. Both were container ships. Seven minutes later, I popped out of bed again and a whole island had disappeared! The QM is a really BIG ship!

I have a dozen photos of her. Can't see her at the dock (but I'll drive out to a parking lot I know across from the cruise terminal so I can see her there) but she is big enough that I can see a bit of the bridge but if I had not seen her come in, I wouldn't know what I was seeing peeking out from behind the building.

Now I'm ready to cruise again. Dd cleared us until the end of May at dinner the other night (she's finally caught on as to how much my life is on hold and she doesn't even know about the paying job I turned down.) But even Sunday night when she mentioned we were 'free' I still wasn't ready to write the travel agent. Then seeing the Maasdam last night sparked the wanderlust once more.

There's a triumph - I've posted vacation photos so far.

Warning: this is a large file so don't click on the link if you are on dial-up or super slow connection.

My pictures aren't quite sized right and there is one panorama shot so you have to slide the window over to see it all.

I was thinking of you today Kathryn. I took a drive and ended sitting on a beach to the south of The river mouth - port the pilot boat comes from to take vessles into Port of Brisbane, south of where we had lunch last. No cuise ships waiting today, but a line of ships waiting on the horizon. A bit of breeze off the ocean. Beautiful colour in the ocean. Few people walking dogs.
It was cold here. 9C in the house at 8.30am.
Yoga was first up. The class will move to friday in a fortnight.

Harriet - It is GMT +10 here - no summer day light savings because the state is half in the tropics, and much of the state stretches to the west. I think of it that we are ?8-9 hrs behind you - only it is mostly tomorrow here.
The neighbour's trees are tall, and the sun doesn't clear the trees in winter. My sunny northern veranda now just gets dappled sun for most of the day until the sun moves into the western sky. I guess my trees shade others yards.

My saturday was good. long. Missed a train by seconds. There was another 25 min later so I was running a bit late, but not the last to arrive. An interesting day. The way home was via express train - then a bus because of line work. a 12+ hr day.
Church was good on sunday. Great songs to sing. Good company afterwards.
Just begin.
Living this day, today

Look for the good in all.

You have been busy this morning, Kathryn.

I woke up about midnight and was up for an hour, slept in the recliner until 3, went back to bed and up at 6. Not enough sleep.

Dawned on me a short time ago that I need to go see dfriend (old boss). She has 3 months worth of the capsules dh needs for his inhaler. They're individually sealed so no problem. Need to get a 90 day prescription from the 'dr. since they're $73 a month at a local pharmacy/$256/month after the first 3 fills OR we can pay
$104 for 90 days through (shudder) med co. That's a no-brainer.

We're going to a friend's lake cottage this afternoon on Conesus Lake for the ring of fire, etc. Mostly fire dept there. Our kids and families are all invited as well. Not sure if 'ds-A and ddil will choose to go or not. She's pretty uncomfortable at this point. Only 8 days to go however. Part of me is hoping she lasts until the Delivery date -then gd13 will be away at camp. Will make things much better for dd to enjoy the whole process. GD was a total embarassment at potluck last night.

Have to go buy something to make to take today. Want something I don't have to worry about keeping hot/cold.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Great pictures, Kathryn!

Hoping to hear from DB today. That would be a triumph! Have e-mailed him. Otherwise, he doesn't stay in touch. DM gives me news of him, but she exaggerates so that I prefer to hear directly from him. She is paranoid that if DB and I talk, we are talking about her. So different from Ddad, who always tried to make sure DB and I were staying in touch. Families...

DH will be working on the 4th as there is a problem with month-end closing. He will take the next day off instead. That works fine for the two of us. DD will be here in 8 days. Hoping to finish up lots of little things so the house looks better than when she was here at Christmas.

First up...must deal with a paperwork pile-up. Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Good Morning!

I slept an hour more than normal this morning. I'm now sleeping 8-9 hours a day. Working in the heat seems to raise my need for sleep.

Today focus will be spent on cooking. The oven will be on a good portion of this morning so the earlier I get started the better.

I also will be cooling our house down into "normal" range. We are fine with it being 80 degrees indoors but I suspect it would seem hot to those who are accustomed to cooler temps. Wondering what temp would be normal to most? 75?

Question - what temperature do you find most comfortable to keep your home in the summer time?

Okay--78 degrees--any cooler and I am wearing a fleece jacket! Our last house didn't have central air. Everyone says you don't need it in New England. We ended up using 3 window units. Otherwise, the kitchen would be 90 degrees at times! We have central air here, but after freezing all winter, I don't want to be too cold in the summer.

Our a/c is set to come on at 82 in the daytime and then it runs to cool the house down to about 75 from 7 - 10 p.m. but if the evening is cool, we'll open windows and shut off the a/c and leave everything open until 'crossover' (the moment in the morning when outside is the same or warmer than inside.)

I've got s2s (even put on makeup), had breakfast, started packing, walked around the corner to the drug store to buy nail polish remover (I was climbing in sandals yesterday and scraped my toenails badly so the clear polish I had on had to be removed.) It was a real drug store so I was lucky, nail polish remover is the only cosmetic item they sell (so I have bare toenails now.) I'll pick up polish later today when I go to buy salad for my lunch and do my toes tonight.

We are driving 4 - 5 hours today to an outport north east of Halifax. Friends will host us for supper and we have a room at their daughter's inn for tonight. We'll hike if we get there at low tide (there's an island you can walk out to during low tide).

My period arrived today which will make the next four days of driving more complicated unless it is a normal TOM for me. It is very late, so I think normal is wishful thinking.

OKay, we go for 72 degrees or so here. The kitchen is usually warmer because it adjoins the hot garage, and the door is open a lot for ddogs going in and out. Ds sneaks the upstairs thermostat down as low as he can every night - he will go down to 66 or so but I usually turn it back up. ;) In all fairness, the upstairs A/C still doesn't keep up, especially in hot weather, so it was up to 80 upstairs on Sat and Sunday afternoons. I still haven't convinced ds that turning down the a/c thermostat doesn't make it run any harder.

I'm working on an Excel worksheet for the rabbi. (Red face  ) It's been promised for over a month.

PODA in part
-drugstore
-call charity to p/u table
-emails re setting up meeting w trustees next week
-call handyman person who still hasn't shown up to work
-call exterminator re recommendations for squirrels in attic
-worksheet I'm working on
-find volunteer to cook out on Friday night at temple
-continue packing boxes/purging

I just cancelled the appt I had this afternoon to have blood drawn for the HRT practitioner. I've been out of those meds for over a week so it really doesn't make sense to be tested right now. Hoping I'll get to the drugstore today for that and once the levels stabilize I'll reschedule the appt.

Just dodged a phone call from a temple member who is a perpetual kvetch, or complainer/whiner. I can't take talking to her this morning; I've probably spent more time dealing with her than any one member in the year that I've been president. (After the blistering email from her in March, I was half hoping she wouldn't contact me again.)

Need to finish this report, and I'm stalling right now! :o
