Fire. Looks to be about 1/2 mile wide at this point. I saw a column of smoke about hour ago and it has grown bigger fast.
it is within 2 miles of our home. The wind was blowing it directly toward us but it just shifted and is blowing away. I'm listening to the scanner as multiple fire departments in the surrounding 20+ miles respond to it.

Ortho appointment: Got a shot in my knee and a brace. Seemed to help - but the next 72 hours will tell.

OKay do you have an evacuation plan in place just in case. For a fire 2 miles can be far but it can be close.

It is now raining for us and the good, soaking, kind, not the torrential kind that just lasts a few minutes.

Dd has just updated her (non) pregnancy blog. She's starting to question the whole point of it because it has increased the attention she's got and since she didn't get pregnant right away, the in between times are driving her nuts. She set out delaying telling people if she's pregnant or not by announcing she is trying (and requesting I be there for 6 - 8 weeks around the birth). Therefore we have to assume she is for planning purposes of anything more than 4 months down the road (since that gives me a month to shut down my home/life for a two month absence including a cross country drive.) If she thinks this is rough on her she hasn't appreciated how I feel about this.

Anyway, in response to her most recent "pity me because announcing I'm trying to get pregnant didn't work out the way I thought it would..." post prompted me to write this in in response.

I don’t understand the rush today to announce every intention via social media. It leads to all kinds of awkward situations.

Writing down your own thoughts is a wonderful thing. It is called keeping a diary and has kept people sane for centuries. If you want a trendier name for it, call it journaling.

But your own thoughts are you own and there is absolutely no requirement to share them publicly. No-one has the right to ask what your thoughts are, so you don’t have to ‘manage’ the information via the form of social media you choose. You simply, politely, don’t answer. That’s not rude, the people asking are the ones who are being rude. You don’t have to play the game that everyone else is playing; you can choose to be “old fashioned” and pick the best practices of the sisterhood from generations past.

Personally, I think she should shut down the blog. It is not helpful to her.

Still listening to scanner. A local town has lost power. About 20 homes are evacuated. Our place is safe for now. Our evacuation plan? Not really. I have a tornado plan, but it won't work with a fire. A fire plan would be something like.... open the gates/cut the fences to let livestock get away from fire. Load the dogs and us up and get outta the way of the fire path.

OKay, you need to add: grab your control journal (with insurance and medical info) and your portable hard drive with the backup of all your photos. Oh, and cash (since no power means no ATMs.)

Note to self, update my control journal or at least put the info on my computer and my portable hard drive. It takes only 10 minutes to take photos of each document (you only need the front page with the name of the agent, the company, the policy number, expiry date, and the in case of emergency numbers)

Kathryn, the "trying to get pregnant" roller coaster is a rough ride. Every month feels new with possibilities and every period that starts is failure. Laying off of coffee, alcohol, meds, because of what could be is hard on the mind. It's not a healthy place to be. Most women with no underlying issues will get pregnant in a year's time. We tried a year, then it took another 18 months w a reproductive endocrinologist. I'd encourage her to lay off the pregnancy talk and get something else (school? career? volunteering?) on her mind. I don't know what infertility treatment is available in CA; is that an option?

I'll head out in another 15 minutes for walk with ddogs.

Hum... I got pg with out trying with the first one 2nd one took oh a month can you say furtle myrtle? I'll be praying have prayed for others and they were expecting after that.

I've been praying for rain in the midwest and for bigger crops in the west to help out with shortages as we have not had the drought troubles in our area.

I took an old off-white sheet and sewed up a costume that will fit me in case I do a spinning demo at church they are going over various Bible characters, I found a belt that might work with it too.

This one will fit over other clothing as well. That got me to wondering where the costumes are that they have used in the past if they are still there in the church or not. Christmas in July has me thinking about things like this. It's a good time so if needed costumes for the holidays it won't be a scramble.
