More school skepticism skippable - The high school dd will attend next year got a BIG recognition at the nat'l level, so we are tentatively impressed, though not knowing what it all will mean. Now I realize the behind-the-scenes knowledge of this was probably there before the principal was offered the job in D.C., and may even have been the reason for the offer. For many years, the office of principal here has been held by people with doctorates, but the new one now coming in isn't a Dr. I find it difficult to be disappointed in that, because I'm not sure doctorates mean better leadership in school settings. However, I suspect the criteria for the job may have been lowered now that the system has gotten a bragging-rights award under its belt for this school and will let it rest on laurels while shifting real attention elsewhere. I am cynical, I guess.
I seriously think I need to go back to bed. Next Tuesday is an election day here. I have changed my address as far as voting is concerned. Right after we moved I went to the DMV to change my address but I did not have a utility bill yet, with our new address, so I couldn't get my address changed. She suggested I just do it online. So finally this morning I decided I better do that, since I might need it when I go to vote. Well my address is changed but when I went to print it, it didn't print. I used dhs computer since mine isn't hooked to the printer. So I am just leaving the whole mess on there and he can figure it out when he gets home.
Okay this is the 2nd day in a row I've just gotten sat down to post and h. drives up. Be back in a while I hope...waving to you all. OK we're back from the dump love the community we have here one guy borrows our broom and then we help a guy unload stuff that had his thumb all bandaged up. I was ready for it today as h. gave me a heads up yesterday, had the right "work/ gardening" clothes on. The old sheet did not work so well for a tarp we will have to remember that for future reference.
H. is on call tomorrow we have the tools so it's a "go" for the patio pour now.
Boy is it ever windy outside now there was a field fire but it's out now.
This summer makes me think of the dust bowl days in our history.
I have a plan for dinner.

Just realized I haven 't posted yet. DD and I had 'our' day together. Went to breakfast first. Then went to a small city about 25 miles to the VOA store. She had a basket of stuff ready to donate. Bought a few things in the store, including some things for new dgbaby. Went to another charity consignment store and bought a couple more things. Went to another town about 20 miles from here to G oodwill store, bought a few more things and then across the plaza to W mart. On the way home we stopped to give ddil the things for dbaby. DD held him for a while and then they decided to get some shots of him on DS-A's bunkers/boots. They turned out so cute!
DDIL was a bit disconcerted because she received a letter from the hospital where he was born telling her they had to do screening tests on him again. She wasn't nervous at first because working in a lab, she knows sometimes there's an error -that was until his pediatrician called her and HE was nervous. She hasn't told DS-A because he gets so nervous about that kind of stuff. So she will take him back to the hospital for another blood draw.
When we got home DH said he may not go to PA with DS-R, DDIL, DGS7 to the WKA (World Karting) event there. Dboss wants him to work.
Dee, I think your ddil would be right to assume somebody lost something or made a mistake. That's bound to happen way more than significant things do.
I had a surprise - new Dollar Store 2 towns over where I normally never drive by, but eagle-eye dd13 spied the sign, of course! And lo and behold it was a good one - something I haven't seen in years. Usually they are either sparse or have been overstocked with few items.
I found bargains in books, tech, household items. Goo-Gone, sturdy wire cutters (already used those), school supplies, hair things for dd, a giraffe gift bag for a friend with an all-giraffe nursery theme, the teething ring shape I like (finally!), and a boo-boo ice pack turtle. This is vital stuff! Dd grabbed flip-flops and has been wearing them since, very happy, especially since the tech stuff was all her, too. I just remembered I had intended to shop the fall door decor, but neglected. At the time I walked past it all I didn't believe the large ones were just a dollar so I kept walking, then found the books and actually asked the clerk.
I had been shooed out of the house by HRH, btw, as we attempted to deal with a hard afternoon, and I ran out of sensible errands to keep me away as long as he'd asked. Came back to find him pretty frazzled himself, but he had not called because I couldn't have helped. He was happy I'd brought the groceries he'd mentioned, though, and is looking forward to the late supper he wants. All we can hope is that as time passes, we will have a shift to some new crisis.
Nancy, I hope your patio turns out lovely. This is how we got our lean-to floor surface.
* Singing for seniors was very good.
* Volunteering was good.
* Choir practice was good (I only sat in to practice one song and went over a few of the others from the back of the hall.)
* On the way home we picked up the diet Dr. P I had forgotten to get. The sale ended today so we had to do that.
* I have a load of laundry on and have washed up the dishes.
I'm getting ready for bed now. Will turn out the light after the laundry is in the dryer and the second load is set to start in the early morning.
This evening we did finally get the household act together a little bit and had a good supper. I was even able to exercise for 30 min.
HRH complained about our situation for the first time ever. I knew I felt tension when I got back. He says he knows he's told me there's never a reason to allow myself to get hurt feelings, but he let it happen to himself this afternoon. Ah, well, shake it off.
Indiana, I didn't have the sandwich part today but did have a little ice cream. I think ice cream sandwiches are a super invention. I like the small, half-size ones so I feel less decadent! They also make half-size "nuttybuddy" type ice cream treats, now.
Lilac, our printer will likely have to be replaced before the school year. HRH has be called to it almost every time I print now, highly unusual, so we think it's on its last legs. Hope yours was just temperamental for one day.
I happened to use a notepad to jot down my 5x5 for tomorrow and lifted the sheet off the pad right before water was spilled and I lost the whole rest of the pad. Guess I should be grateful for what it absorbed, but this was not the highest and best use of a notepad. I love notepads. This was kind of a cute one, too, because there were several different colors of paper. I am so cheap. Losing a notepad and I feel so disappointed.
Dd13 got to attend a karate class and had fun. I don't think she wants to keep it up, but she says she certainly was impressed with the bowing. She's surprised to be a little bit sore, having used different muscles.
