Beautiful, MT and Harriet!
First day of school report: The girls seemed pretty laissez-faire about their days. Dd14 said that there are only 2 freshmen in the Latin II class, which has been combined with Latin V this year. The rest of the Latin IIs are presumably sophomores. . I think the Latin classes are always a puzzle to schedule since there aren't a huge number of students in them, esp. Latin V. This year, there are 8 Latin V students (seniors). Last year when ds was a Latin V student, there were only 2. It is odd there are only 2 freshmen Latin IIs, though. Dd16 said her freshman year, there were a lot more. I guess the rest of that crowded middle school 8th grade Latin classroom went to the other high school? Dd14 has a Latin quiz and math sheet to do for tomorrow.
Dd16 ran into dd14's math teacher in the hallway. He had dd16 and ds as well in the past. He asked her if dd14 was the last or if there were more "helia last names" coming. . . LOL! I remember an English teacher in the middle school asking the same question. I guess when kids keep coming through every 2 years (well, ds went through this math class 3 years before dd16), you start to wonder! Dd16 did say the art teacher asked her if she was interested in doing an independent study with him 7th hour (dd14 is in his class 7th hour) and was going to look into that for her.
I remember Harriet's dd14 and OK's dgkids rating their first days. I decided to ask my girls. They rated their day a "7" (dd16) and an "8" (dd14). I think that reflects their personalities. I can't imagine either one, especially dd16, ever rating her day, especially a school day, a "10." Definitely not the cheer you up types, I guess. . LOL! Dd14 was very pleased that she didn't get lost, not even once.
OK, off to make taco meat, gather some Hebrew, and leave in 20 minutes for dd14's oboe lesson.
Started reading posts several hours ago but with interruptions galore finally got to the end. So, Lucylee, you are going to retire. I remember during the school year before I retired a young teacher still in her 20's telling me she envied me being able to retire! I told her when she had put in 30 or 40 years in the classroom she could!
(((MT & dh))) Just what you needed on moving day! Hope nothing else came along to mess you up. And OKay,good for you getting LO's room painted.
I had a not-so-good night last night. Slept well for a few hours and than after a potty break around 3 a.m. did not get back to sleep at all. Happens every once in a while and I can never figure out a reason. Just. stayed.awake. All very well except that I am fighting sleep this afternoon. Need to go outside and walk a bit. Temp in the 80's which is a good 10 degrees cooler than what we have been getting.
I have a slew of unread emails waiting for me. Decided to come here first because I knew I would not make it if I sdid the email first. 3/4 of it is just chitchat anyway and not always interesting to me.
MT, I see from your post that you did get on the road and are stopped for the night. I'm glad you were able to get going after your trauma(s) earlier.
Back from my walk safely. Thanks you guys are great!
Dgd is here and I seem to be doing better.
Now realize I have more laundry that originally thought instead of 2 loads there are at least 4 or 5 usual for us.
One thing I did that worked was getting deli chicken we went to the park w/ the 2 youngest grand kids and had hostess cupcakes where they sang the hbday song to me at dusk. {could have done w/out the yellow jackets however} then they played on the play ground equipment for a few more min. that was after mini dipped cones at McDonald's. Dgson thought I was nuts when I said he had to get shoes w/sox when it was 90* out he was arguing and wanting to just wear flip flops. Then he "got it" when I told him later where we were going. Now I just keep sox in the car for 'em! A good granny has spare sox for McDonald's indoor play land in her car and / or purse.
Dgd has painted, done legos, had snacks, made a bead necklace and Franklin is on now. Baking is next...
In the middle of it, the specialist's office called. No good news, he's still not back and after rescheduling everyone a few weeks ago to this week, she's had to reschedule them all again. She hopes he'll be in on Friday and triage everyone and she can make appointments. But no guarantees. I should hear from her some time early next week.
News from my 'dying' friend. She is dying but made it through Friday night, came out of the coma and then rallied. She's cognizant and able to walk. She'll undergo radiation in order to buy a month or two more of this stage before the cancer (primary is lung, secondary liver and brain) will take her. So I may yet make it to her funeral.
Dinner is started and dh has started dinner for tomorrow night.
A leve really works. I have done my workout for 6 days and today my knees feel like hamburger. Awhile ago I took the A leve and it has kicked in.
I went to the health dept., filled out paperwork and waited. When it was my turn, she told me she had good news. 4 years ago as I was painting the large garage, I tangled with a rusty tomato cage. I immediately cleaned up and went for a tetanus shot. Well it seems the shot I had then was the one I thought I needed now. It was the combo shot and you only need one dose of pertussis as an adult. All- righty then. I had my shot record and had even looked at it, but did I see what was plain as day. Nooooooooooooo.
Ran a few errands and now I need to get off this computer and get busy...........
Back from my "walk." Walk is in quotes because of what my walks entail. Doesn't look like much compared with 8 mile jogs but y'all are younger than I am. A LOT younger! There are steps leading in and out to both entrances to the house so I can't just push my walker out the door. Have to get a younger person (lol) to take it out and later to bring it back in. I use a cane to navigate the steps. My walks consist of a trip either to the street or to the garage in back, which is farther but less steep. Usually I do some of each. Today I looked toward the street and here is a recliner across the way - there is room for the agile person to get around it but not room for the walker. Okay I turned toward the garage and about half way there ds had put a small flat bed trailer smack across the driveway! So I went as far as the trailer and turned around and made the trip twice. Rested a bit and repeated the process and then did it two more times. That was it for today. Pathetic isn't it?
Let me tell you about the garage. It is big enough to house a small business. Ds got a kit and built himself. He is pretty much a DIY-er anyway. It houses a 30 ft RV and 2 ATV's and enough tools to supply a car repair business. He has mechanic's manuals for every vehicle he owns (I didn't mention his HD truck for hauling the trailer, his OLD Chrysler that would have been junked long ago by anyone not like him, dil's Toyota truck and a 2001 Buick which was originally mine and which I had them haul out here and gave to him. Yes, I could have sold it but you can only imagine what I could have gotten for it, and the two little old ladies in the park who inquired about it don't have the first notion of maintaining a car. And this is absolutely the best car I ever had. Ds will keep it going forever! And that is what I wanted.) I do get a real kick out of him.
I get a kick out of all my kids actually. Six kids brought up in the same household with the same two parents and they are so different from one another.
DH took LO on an errand with him so I decided to use the time to start putting things back into his room (away from the walls). I turned each item of furniture upside down or laid on it's back and I washed all the corners and crevices before moving back into his room. I kept thinking DH would be home any moment and I would stop. Fast forward TWO HOURS and I'm still at it. I'm about 90% finished putting things back into LO room all scrubbed clean and organized. I'm TIRED to the point of shaking so I'm stopping for the day on this project.
Nancy - I'll wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY again because everyone deserve to celebrate it!!
I'm thoroughly enjoying the descriptions of mamapiano's surroundings, including kinfolk and their schedules. Hmmm... ... I think a request to the family to keep your walking trail clear insofar as it is up to them would be very reasonable! I remember that car from posts, and that's cool that it is well cared for. I mean, wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?
(OKay) shaking is too tired.
Kathryn, I know dh's mentor is relieved today.
Thanks for the school reports, helia. Each time I hear about a little serendipity that may cause your two girls to cross paths through their days I am happy for them. High school can be tough and a sister must be a comfort. Hearing about additional oboe instruction, I must say I guess I'm glad that students of the guitar don't have to learn how to carve picks! (Well, I suppose they could.) What an interesting skill for your dd to learn making her own reeds.
Dd has been practicing her o n e s o n g over and over and over again . She says, "Watch me, Mama!" (watch what?) Turns out we're supposed to check if she is using "muscle memory" for the chords or if her eyes inadvertently stray to her hand. Knowledgeable players in the village may be amused to hear about the bandaids on her fingers. I guess that's par for the course at first. She says, "Is this driving you crazy?" HRH says, "Too late."
Need to clean up the kitchen. Got stuck with it (despite cooking) because dh is out with ds at another movie. We have a ton of gift certificates and 2-for-1 deals to use up between now and the end of October. Coordinating the work schedules is tough and using a certificate on cheap night (Tuesdays here) or early morning (which we sometimes do when ds is on shift work) gives us less value for them so that slows down burning through them.
I have a 4 videos to watch so will put one on in the kitchen to at least entertain me. Who knows, I might get some energy when I walk away from the computer!
Harriet, reeds are the bane of any reed player, and oboe (and bassoon) are the very worst. Most oboists end up making their own. Good that Helia's dd is learning now.
Part of dinner tonight was make-your-own sandwiches using that round and very thin bread that is sold for buns among other things. Ddil toasted it and served it with sliced cheese and chicken that she had cooked and then shredded and seasoned with barbecue sauce. She also had hot sauce on the table for those who wanted it. Totally delicious! I wished I could hold another one. Dggs/17 ate FIVE! She has him out in the yard working now so maybe it's a good thing that he is well stoked for the evening. Not sure when the kids' folks are coming to pick them uip but ds and ddil will keep them both buy till then.
OKay, Harriet is right. Shaking is too tired. Hope you don't do that again any time soon.
