NOW... MUST get on the road and buy something even if it is NOT the right thing. * sigh * Can't get dmom on the phone for IDEAS re: ddad.

Re: Well Lived Saturday
Harriet, PMA = Positive Mental Attitude.
Ta Da so far:
- Emptied and filled the DW.
- Prayers & Novena.
- Wrote in my journal.
- Walked 30 min.
- Reviewed the book on emotional eating, called "Runaway Eating."
- I fed Bert a load of dirty socks and underwear.
- DH is vauuming.
- I rinsed dishes in the sink, cleaned the sink.
- I put out hot spots.
- I ate a healthy lunch and took a pill and supplements.
I'm trying to figure out just what I want to do for a project today. I have to crochet 2 stuffed toys, want to crochet preemie things, and read or write on a story.
I'm tired of writing stories, since I sent one Nov. 27 and 30. I might take a break from that today to focus on crochet, the house, and reading.
Lucylee, I got a free religious calendar from RBC Ministries and each day has a different Bible verse or verses on it.
Twins' Mom, It sounds warm and comfortable there.
I'm glad the hospital is waiting for "placement" to move your dsis. I hope she gets her needed help soon.
Harriet, I think that MY DH is more eccentric as HE ages, too!
Nancy, What is "BB Turny" for dgd?
Oh, Helia!
I can just "picture" your ds being embarrassed by DH straightening his tie. When we're young like that, in public and our parents are just being themselves, we tend to get embarrassed.
OKay, I'm glad you got an extra couple of hours.
Boy! Her sure grew out of those jeans fast!
I think I'll go take a little rest before I get going again.
Have a great Well Lived Saturday.

Re: Well Lived Saturday
Reading all the posts here, I keep thinking, "I need to do that.... and that.... and that...."
I put up the door wreath, took down all the fall decorations, polished the candelabra, put some winter/Xmas decorations on it (it has 4 arms and a big centre platform that originally had a glass globe, long ago broken, on which I put either more candles, or silk flowers in seasonal colours), kept feeding Bert and Ernie, finished the dusting, finished the main floor vacuuming, and did a bit of tidying here and there.
BUT, I see paperwork being done in the Village and paperwork being stored out of sight in the Village and I look around at all the mess of papers here and sigh...
I still have the basement to vacuum but I think I'll watch the last episode of Downton Abbey. Yes, while folding laundry, polishing silver and eating lunch, I managed to watch 3 episodes.

Re: Well Lived Saturday
Good afternoon! This monster cold I have has really knocked me back. DD supposedly had her first day of rec hockey today; DH was helping administer tests at school (ACT? SAT? HS admission? I don't know.), so I had to take her to the rink in time to dress and be on the ice at 8 am. Plan as of last night was that I would put on sweats to go and, after coming home, would go back to bed. The girls added on "stop for donuts for breakfast" to the plan. So I dragged myself out of bed by about 7:15, and we had DD to the rink before 8 -- where we discovered that there was no rec hockey this morning, because a tournament was going on. So we proceeded with the "get donuts" and "go back to bed" parts of the plan. I was back in bed by 9 and dozed off till DH was back from testing -- around 1 pm! I finally dragged myself out of bed around 2 and have not done much since then except have some lunch and work a little bit on Christmas lights. DH and the girls are at the library, and I was hoping that they would get home and see me at work and thereby be goaded into working on the lights themselves, but it's my family, and it's the library, and they've been gone well over an hour, and the sun is going down....
Regarding children and wakes/funerals: we take ours, but it does tend to be a YMMV thing. Last night, we went to the wake for the DGF of our carpool kids. The kids were there, and their youngest was running around and playing with (I presume) a cousin, and some of the adults in line were giving disapproving looks. We've also been met with expressions of disbelief when taking our kids along -- but, usually, if the family of the deceased expresses any opinion, it is one of gratitude, whether because the children bring them joy or because they offer companionship for any children who are there. But there are plenty of people who feel children have no place at funerals. There were plenty of folks who were surprised that we took our girls (at the time, 1-1/2 and 4) to DMIL's wake, even though it was their own grandmother. Either way, I can see where having LO along would hinder doing quickly what needed to be done.
DH and girls just walked in, and the girls are already ensconced in a DVD they got from the library, so there's little hope of getting much Christmas prep done tonight. (Aside from which, I'm wiped from my efforts on the lights.) I do think I will make a list of things we can work on tomorrow; DH also thinks that's a good idea, because he and I don't always see eye-to-eye on "what needs to be done."

Re: Well Lived Saturday
Plenty of papers still here, Kathryn, so you're not alone. I still have stuff on the DR table from when we moved, and another box here on the breakfast bar, and a couple more stacks on a small desk in the breakfast area.
I've been doing laundry off and on this afternoon. Now watching SEC football.

Hello, villagers ~
Have you heard of an a capella group called Pentatonix? I just learned about them today and I've been watching their videos on YouTube. They have a great version of "Carol of the Bells" at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSUFzC6_fp8
It's been a gloomy and drizzly day, therefore no working outdoors. I've been alternating between various indoor jobs and making bits of progress on each.
I'm enjoying the gradual lightening of the storage closet as I'm taking out (and getting rid of!
) more than I'm transferring in. It's taking forever, but I can see improvement each day.

Re: Well Lived Saturday
My Ta Da:
- I napped under a thick blanket in the recliner with my kitty cat on top of me.
- I put away socks and underwear.
- I sorted the mail.
- dark laundry is laying flat across the back of the sofa, for me to hang up soon.
- towels are washing now.
- I fed the kitty cat.
- I took Advil for a sore right hand, so I'm not writing letters, am not writing stories, nor am I crocheting today. (This is a sign to me to READ my books!)
- I read on Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove Series Cookbook.
- I put 2 pen pals in my address book.
- I put 2 Christmas cards in the wall-hanging card holder.
When I sorted the mail, I was honored to open a package from Debbie Macomber. I had submitted a pumpkin dessert recipe to her site, she picked it as recipe of the month, and her asst. sent me the Cedar Cove Cookbook. It's also autographed and under Ms. Macomber's name, she wrote a Bible Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7. So I got out my Holy Bible and looked up the verse. It said:
FOR GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR, BUT OF POWER, AND OF LOVE AND A SOUND MIND." It almost as though she knew my fears about Ddil and her unborn baby, as Ddil fights off a blood infection in the hospital. I copied the Bible Verse down because I will refer to it when DH says something negative about Ddil maybe not making it.
I hope everyone has a very nice evening. I've had a very happy day. A nice nap helped with that and receiving Debbie Macomber's cookbook helped, too. Walking helped to earn endorphins, too.
TTFN!

Re: Well Lived Saturday
I had to close my eyes for a while because I just can't get through the day without a lie down. For a while (up until about 5:45) I thought I'd make it.
I did get dinner in the oven (rolled, stuffed, pork tenderloin) before lying down and dh did the mashed potatoes and veggies.
Ds was upset because he was looking forward to dinner and could barely eat any. Actually, he ate one thick slice, all his carrots and half his potatoes so not bad. He's extremities are freezing and it gets worse after eating because his body sends blood to the tummy to digest. He went to bed right after dinner and I tucked him in with a heat bag. He was shivering badly when I left him but I know that would pass in a few minutes.
All his laundry is now clean. Things like his towels, blankets and climbing clothes are in a basket in the basement ready to go back to his apartment. His other clothes are in the drawer and a basket in his room. I put an empty basket on the floor of his room where he tends to dump his clothes (I had it on the other side of the room but he dumps them in front of the bed so the path of least resistance was to put the basket in front of the dresser. It worked and he puts most of his clothes there now, instead of right by the bed (which meant that walking into his room to check him was a mine field.)
The kitchen is tidied up from dinner and the dishwasher running. I'm sure our electric usage is double the norm right now. I've run the washer and dishwasher daily and used the dryer almost daily. I have a load of sheets waiting for Monday when it is supposed to be warmer and sunny. And a load of our towels for tomorrow afternoon. At that point, I'd say I'm caught up but ds' sheets will be ready to be done by then!
(I know many of you live with daily laundry but I've got dh and I down to 3 - 4 loads a week so this is a shock for me!)
After dinner I vacuumed the basement, so all the vacuuming is done. I'll skip the floors this week if I can or do them on Tuesday night during dh's conference call.
Tomorrow is a full day, singing in both services plus at a community Christmas Concert in the evening. We have to meet at our church at 5:30 so dinner will be very early, probably 4ish. It is roast chicken so easy to do and will cook in the oven while I nap.
Dh is watching a movie so I'm all on my own. I think I'll work on devotions for a while.

Re: Well Lived Saturday
Hello everybody!
DH and I are back from an early Christmas gathering with some friends. So nice to get together before everyone gets too busy!
It was a good time and of course we ate too much!
About paperwork...I have a pile that I keep meaning to deal with, but it mostly gets moved around a lot! Glad to see I'm in good company here with that. Half of it is filing. I used to keep up better when I had small kids, but then I was younger, too.
Going to go color my hair now...another thing I put off all week.
Ivy--I love that Bible verse.
Lucky you, getting that nice cookbook!

Re: Well Lived Saturday
Hello everyone.
Kathryn, you sound so much better to me. You're getting so much stuff done.
I do 3 LOL a week, more if I'm doing towels and sheets. I've been doing a load of sheets, blankets, towels from Thanksgiving every day or every other day. Then I hang them up. Today I did 3 sheets & pillow cases and our load of whites. Those went out on the rack on the back porch. We had 10 people staying over on the holiday and I'm still doing linens from that.
Today was different. DH has been asking me about the grapefruit tree, but I didn't want to stop my sewing to tackle that...so he started it today. He started picking the tree and washing fruit. I got him all set up with the juicer and containers and I cut apart the ones he washed, and I took out the rinds in bags to the garbage while he juiced. We got 10 gallons of juice in the freezers and we are out of space. There are 3 HUGE bags still left but we will probably give most of those away. And I can't even drink it.... cleanup was up to me, DH was all done in from standing so long in one spot..so I washed down the whole kitchen which we'd gotten sticky.
Been sewing all day when I could find a minute. I'm all stiff from sitting hunched over the machine.
Can't seem to concentrate here...I discovered It's a Wonderful Life playing tonight and I think I've seen the first parts for the very first time!
