I saw that Dove got to check in on us today.

I helped dd get a photograph into a photo-card for her friend who is going to a different school this year. Got one into a photo-card for my aunt-of-the-many-aprons, too.

Allowed the chickens to spend the afternoon on the lawn - very unusual but I knew I would be around the yard all afternoon and Sammie would, too.

HRH and dd have been in front of the tv several hours watching a mini-marathon of Next Gen.

Oh, ellyphant and others interested, I got my anticipated first Christmas card today, right on time. Another one from the mail carrier was in the newspaper.

HRH grocery shopped for us today and then made supper. Greatly appreciated.

DH did put up some of the lights before it got dark, bless him! So we have two of the three front downstairs windows done. The one on the other side of the door can be done tomorrow -- I had been thinking of running lights around the front door to connect the two sides, but any time we've done that, the lights have been lucky to make it through the season -- they tend to get battered by the wind. So I think we should get a shortish extension cord that can be run below the threshold. DH took wood left over from repairing the garage windowsills this summer and made a star, which he's planning to light up and hang from the side of the house above the upstairs porch, I think. I think he's going to hang that tomorrow. And I'll hang the front door wreath; easy-peasy -- I just have to get it down from the attic and put batteries in the pack for its LEDs.

Speaking of which, I took the opportunity to replace the downstairs lights with LEDs this year. I don't think they're really going to match the old incandescents upstairs (among other things, the yellow and the orange on the LED sets are near-indistinguishable), but oh, well. The upstairs windows I do from the inside (I use Command clips on the glass itself); the hard part is getting to the windows, especially in the girls' rooms. However, I mentioned that to DH, and he's got the girls working on cleaning their bedroom floors. DD was hoping that would mean she could invite a friend over for tomorrow, but with me being as out of commission as I've been, the public areas of the house are still in pretty bad shape, and I'm just too wiped to play hostess.

I miss the days when I could do wash every other day! With two kids at home, that's not really an option. If I miss a day or two, it's really noticeable. But I remember those days fondly.

I had recommended "Why Bright Kids Get Poor Grades" to someone (I forget who, sorry!), who wondered if the 2008 edition had significant differences from the earlier edition. I can't say for sure, but most of the footnotes in the recent edition reference papers written in the 2000s, so I imagine so. Personally, I'd recommend first checking out the public library in your area, if that's an option. (We tend to have really great libraries here in northeast Ohio, and they've got an excellent interlibrary loan program, so I don't know if I may be taking for granted access that many people don't have.)

I think I'm going to make sure my hockey binder is ready to go, then I'm going to tuck myself into bed. dd has a 9:20 game on the other side of town. We're supposed to be at games half an hour early, so to get there by 8:50, we'll need to leave here around 8:20. Not too outrageous, but I am dragging.

Harriet--No cards here yet, but I think I'll mail mine on Monday. Thanks to our discussion about when to mail, I did wait a few extra days--haha!!

I would love a glass of that fresh grapefruit juice at Harmony's house, but my DH can't drink it due to medicine he takes.
Just remembered my acid reflux that would surely come back if I drank citrus...I tend to forget about it until I eat or drink the wrong thing!
